The sushi is fresh and delicious. The service is excellent. The camaraderie with other guests is great with the chit chatting. The chefs are friendly and describe the food well. A repeat customer. Getting pricey so this is a gift to myself everytime.

Great experience for very reasonable price! I liked everything about this dinner, hope to come back.

Incredible experience! Every bite of food was fantastic. Very intimate setting with only 9 seats per omakase seating. The staff is very personable and it's a great spot for a quick dinner before catching a show.

Definitely an experience you don't want to miss - especially if you are a sushi aficionado.

Been coming here on every trip to NYC since they opened. It's only gotten better. A great place to go before a show because you know you'll be out on time!

As always, Sushi By Bou did a stellar job. This is the best value anywhere for an excellent Omakase experience.

The food is delicious, fresh, thoughtfully prepared, each bite a carefully matched fish with yuzu, or ginger, or pepper sauce. Pure, buttery, exquisite fish as fresh as you can imagine. It may feel like a short time to eat, but you have time to savor the fish. It's a casual space with easy interaction and opportunity to ask the chefs about their preparation. A perfect spot to eat before a show, with a clear time/schedule!

** Perspective as an Asian who enjoys matured sushi **

summary- disappointing

1. Music was excessively loud, making it hard to enjoy the meal or have a conversation

2. The chef was rigid and unwelcoming—he insisted on knowing everyone’s allergies before preparing anything, even though my guests hadn’t arrived yet. I explained multiple times that I didn’t know, but he kept pushing. Felt like I was being scolded before the meal even started.

3. Poor dining etiquette—the chef constantly asked, “Is it good?” after almost every bite, which felt intrusive and awkward.

4. Fish was pre-sliced, which may have affected its freshness and texture.

5. Overwhelming oil aroma on top of the sushi masked the natural flavors.

6. Pre-chopped tuna was taken directly from a plastic tray, still partially wrapped—felt low-effort and unhygienic for the price.

7. Hidden card fee: $65 for credit card payment vs. $60 cash, with no advance notice.

Full marks for fast, cozy, quality, and good value sushi omakase at this 9 seater basement outlet.

My first omakase and it was incredible. I wish I could eat more! 😅 it’s was so delicious, every ingredient super fresh, service was great. Wagyuni, akami and hotate were the best. The whole menu is amazing but those were my favorites. It melts in your mouth. The vibe is super cool. They are very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!!

We went to Sushi by Bou in Times Square yesterday, and it was nothing short of electric. From the moment we descended the secret stairwell—located right next to the Sanctuary Hotel’s entrance—you knew you were in for something special. The whole space is tiny and intimate (about eight seats at the counter), but they pack it full of personality: dim lighting, graffiti-lined walls, and an old-school hip‑hop soundtrack that had real street‑corner energy .

But the real star of the show was Chef Alex. He was on fire—cracking jokes, hyping our table, teasing the music, and even closing out each bite with one-liners that had us in stitches. And yet, he never lost his chef’s focus. Each nigiri was plated and delivered with laser precision… a seamless dance of flavor and flair. Alex’s combination of comedic timing and culinary skill felt rare, and it elevated the whole experience.

The omakase was a 12-course, 30-minute sprint (they also do a 17-course “Bougie” upgrade), and it felt like a curated journey through contemporary sushi with a hip‑hop soul . Standouts included the torched albacore, buttery Hokkaido scallop, and the saucy miso black cod. But the vibe? That old‑school hip‑hop soundtrack gave it a real nightlife pulse—like a secret speakeasy for sushi lovers .

A few highlights:

The ambiance: Graffiti art and rap CDs on the walls, loud but not crushing, and it felt like the chef was spinning behind our bowl instead of a DJ .

The pacing: Courses dropped every few minutes—fast, intense, but never chaotic. Perfect for a pre‑show bite or a quick, delicious detour .

Extras: We couldn’t resist adding the “Big Mac” hand roll—wagyu, uni, scallop, toro—it was a bomb of epic luxury, perfect to close the set .

If you want omakase with rhythm, energy, and real personality, especially in the heart of Times Square, this is it. Forget sterile sushi temples—this is raw, real, and alive. And if Chef Alex is behind the counter, you're in for one hell of a night. Delicious, fun, and straight‑up unforgettable. Five stars, no doubt.

It is insane and frankly undeserved that I was able to get a reservation here day of; this place is so insanely good and at such a good price and I cannot recommend it enough! Food was incredible (of course) but the atmosphere was such a vibe and the staff, especially Chef Orby, were so fun and enjoyable to talk to too! This is absolutely a mandatory stop for me every time I'm in the city from now on.
