Our party of 4 had a couple appetizers, a variety of nigiri, a sashimi platter, and a salmon teriyaki dinner. Appetizers of edamame and fried oysters came out quickly. The fried oysters look like they are heavily battered but they aren't. The batter is sturdy enough to hold a shape but isn't heavy. They were fried well and not chewy or overdone. Entrees took a while to come out, maybe 20 minutes after the appetizers, but worth the wait. All the sushi and sashimi was delicious and real wasabi was used. The sashimi platter came with a bowl of rice on the side. The salmon filet was huge and perfectly cooked. Our table was by the window which had pros and cons. It was away from other diners which made it feel somewhat private. But it was also right be the entrance and host stand which made it feel a bit strange when other diners entered and were hovering by the front. Overall, would recommend.
Unique omakase. Every piece is memorable. Highest quality fish. Price is well worth what you get.
The food and experience is sp wonderful, not even the congestion pricing toll will stop us from eating at Ryusei.
First, food is amazing. Also I like here because they have a choice for à la carte. It might be good point for Japanese. As you know, “Omakase” in Sushi restaurants is one of culture in Japan. At the same time, there is a culture that we eat own favorite sushi with Miso soup at the end. This is the “Shime” culture. I return to here soon.
I think this is one of the best Japanese sushi restaurants in Manhattan. Omakase is the way to go to sample Chef Oyama's amazing cuisine. I highly recommend a visit to Sushi Ryusei!!
Sushi rice was uninspiring, cakey and did not complement the fish. Seaweed paper was chewy. Fish quality was decent. Relatively high-priced for a very pedestrian meal. There are much better alternatives.
This was our first time in the renature-ant although we ordered delivery many times and have been very happy. This time at the sushi bar we tried the highest level Omakase in celebration of Chef Oyama's birthday month. Chef Oyama was phenomenal and his omakase was much better than many which are much more expensive in other restaurants. We had an extremely pleasant time and every bite was super delicious. The side dishes and amuse bouche were also fantastic. Highly recommend Ryusei. Their take out/delivery orders are delicious as well, but Omakase really spoke for itself. Our best Japanese meal is a while. Maitre d'it Haruki-san and our waiter Kenichi gave outstanding service. We will be back.
Always amazing. The absolute best miso soup I’ve found in nyc. Love to bring people here, never disappoints!
I've been to quite a few sushi houses in New York including very pricey ones like 15 East and Sushi of Gari. They are all good, but what I like about Sushi Ryusei is the low price. The 10 piece Omakasi is $95 and the 15 piece around $140. Every once in a while they offer a nice 20% discount and I would recommend everyone who likes sushi to take up this offer. I can't say whether their sushi is better or worse than say like Sushi Yasuda, BUT you can never ever complain about the prices especially since most sushi houses have increased their Omakase prices across the board. Even without the discounts, the Omakase prices are a bargain so if you're someone who is not too picky about the quality of sushi then Sushi Ryusei is highly recommended.
It took one hour before we got the appetizer and another 30 minutes before we got her sushi
Restaurantji Recommends
I highly recommend the age tofu. The teriyaki salmon is really delish but pretty big so I recommend sharing it. Also, sit at the sushi bar. Great atmosphere and service.
My absolute favorite Japanese restaurant in Manhattan. Their sushi is perfect. Omakase, tempura, udon, dine in or take out, you can't make a bad choice here. Friendly and welcoming service.
As always, the fish was outstanding. The service was perfectly attentive, and never intrusive. We ordered two of today's appetizer specials highlighting the cuisine of Okinawa (teriyaki fluke, and very thinly sliced yellowtail with ponzu sauce and mild jalapeño condiment). Note to self- always order whatever they offer as a special addition to the menu. I also ordered whatever sushi pieces they were willing to serve seared. This is the best aburi I have found in the city. I can never recommend this restaurant highly enough.
Ordered takeout and it was ok, quality not there for the price $200
The waiter accidentally spilled tea all over my father’s suede shoes and trousers. While he offered an apology, that was the full extent of his response—no effort was made to rectify the situation. I wasn’t expecting complimentary food, but I did anticipate some form of acknowledgment from a manager, perhaps an offer to cover dry cleaning or even a simple gesture like a dessert.
To make matters worse, as we were finishing our meal, another waiter abruptly dropped the check on our table without saying a word, despite the fact that we had intended to order dessert. After settling the bill, we mentioned this oversight, but the waiter appeared entirely indifferent.
It’s truly unfortunate, as the food was quite good, but the substandard service leaves no reason for us to return.
