There is a difference between health, appearance of health, and the story we tell ourselves about health. This restaurant operates almost entirely in the third category.
The premium price is justified through claims such as “antibiotic-free chicken,” yet this is a misunderstanding of U.S. food law. All chicken sold in the United States is required to be free of antibiotic residues. Framing this as a differentiator is, at best, misleading and, at worst, exploitative of consumer ignorance.
The product itself reflects the same philosophy. The chicken breast is aggressively overcooked, dry, and difficult to eat without masking it in sauces. This is not accidental. Extremely lean cuts are used to minimize calories, even when that choice compromises texture, flavor, and basic palatability. The result is food that signals restraint rather than nourishment.
What is actually being sold here is not quality protein or culinary execution, but identity. The consumer is invited to feel disciplined, modern, and morally aligned with “clean eating,” regardless of whether the food itself is enjoyable or well prepared. Discomfort is reframed as virtue.
This is not food optimized for performance, digestion, or satisfaction. It is food optimized for signaling.
Those who eat for function will notice immediately. Those who eat for identity will defend it enthusiastically.

As some other reviewers mentioned, portions are smaller than other sweet greens in the area. Outlets by the seating. But no tap water!!
Great people and great service!

At this particular location some of the plate serving is done by a rather large machine. The portions are more consistent because of the machine. The overall service provided by man and machine have been great.

Sweetgreen you were going great with humans, all New Yorkers know the city is infested with roaches and rats. I don’t trust this machines to be properly cleaned and maintained. Please consider going back to humans. Meanwhile I’m not coming back.
Did not like or appreciate that there aren’t any humans in the front. Makes you feel like a robot. Don’t like it. I need to see people. Why would sweet green change to this. I don’t wanna support that. Sorry!

Been coming here for years. Made a mistake with my order and rather than helping me, the 3 people in the front stood there, mocked me, told me to email customer service and refused to assist me. There goes $20…

I grabbed the Harvest Bowl at Sweetgreen through MealPal, and honestly, I think I felt my body high-five itself for all the fresh, nutritious, wholesome goodness. The kale was so crisp it could have its own skincare routine, and the chicken was living its best (past) life. Pretty sure I’m now 10% more wholesome just for eating it.
Food tastes really good. I enjoy it will come back

Horrible! There are no human interactions, only tablets.
Very deshumanizing, the worst feeling ever.

Gave my sister food poisoning yesterday FYI
Staff is great. Layout is horrible. Really dislike the kiosk option. As if I’m ordering online verses in the restaurant. Also no fountain water.
i love this place, best part of my work day is getting a chicken avocado bowl here- it’s so dang tasty and staff is always friendly
I’ve eaten at various Sweetgreen locations and am generally happy with the food. Unfortunately last night I got food poisoning from the romaine. My friend and I both had the harvest bowl, but I switched greens to romaine and removed the rice, also added cucumbers. I remember some of the lettuce tasting bitter, but I ate it anyway. As soon as I finished my bowl, I started to feel pain in my stomach, and within a half hour I was throwing up (up all night with pain, vomiting, and diarrhea). It’s the next day and I can’t keep anything down/in, including water. I couldn’t find any other way to report this to Sweetgreen, so hopefully someone sees this and takes care of the issue before more people get sick.
