I know this is not the place with the most visually appealing food, but it is genuine. It felt homemade, like a meal made with love. I really enjoyed it. They have good spice, and the birria nachos were excellent. The birria tacos were delicious, and the chilaquiles were spectacular.
I highly recommend it if you are looking for authentic Mexican food beyond just tacos. It is clearly understaffed, it takes them a while to take the order, they are also running all over the place.

We are regulars at Tacos and Tequila, mainly because the food is good. We always get the ceviche and the 3 street tacos. However, they need to make some changes if they want 5 stars.
First, the restaurant is not a club, so they should not be playing loud, club music in the back room which is the only place with comfortable seating / tables in the cold weather. Low, mexican themed music would be better.
Second, on a slow night, there is no excuse for not seeing the waiter for 10 minutes after getting your appetizer. We get they have take-out orders, but if they want patrons to come in, they need to pay attention.
Third, don't be chintzy on the tortilla chips, which are the cheapest thing to provide. If I order an expensive ceviche appetizer, then give me enough chips to accompany them. Don't make me pay another $3 to get what should have been provided with the appetizer in the first place. Most Mexican restaurants give you as much chips as you want, no charge.
I'll still go back, but we are moving soon and if they don't fix things, we won't make it a point to come back.

3 kids and 1adult ordered about $130 of food and 1 drink. Back room was very cute. Drink was good. Problem was we ordered $19 chips and salsa with a little guac. Most places have free chips and salsa with full meals ordered. But here you had to pay $19. There were maybe 24 chips. 6 chips a person. We requested more. We were given a small bowl more. They charged us for the extra chips! So cheap. That really annoyed me and when I asked the waiter why we were charged he said he couldn't do anything about it, that most people put a lot on their chip to use the salsa. It was literally maybe 25 cents of chips.
Also, you have to pack your own food up. The fajitas metal skillet is very heavy and difficult to scrape the food while holding the pan in one hand. They should know this and just do it for the customer.
It was also annoying that they give estimates of tips, 20%, etc, but with tax included. I think that is a bit dishonest. They shouldn't expect people to tip the tax.

Ordered through grubhub, tacos were burnt and dry. Really disappointing
The food was bland, too salty and nothing worthy of the price tag. The queso dip is mozzarella melted in a pot so when it arrives it’s hard, not a dip. The kids quesadillas is a tortilla with the same mozzarella from the dip, nothing to talk about. The shrimp tacos are bland, the steak fajitas salty and our son loved the beef burrito.

The chorizo burrito lunch special ($18.95 plus tax) had good flavor with a soft, fresh flour tortilla. The serving of the accompanying crinkle cut fries was quite paltry though, like a kid’s portion. The space is simple and a bit cramped so it may be preferable to sit outside. Please note that the suggested tip amounts are based on the taxed total.

I'll be back to try the food because this watermelon margarita is DIVINE!! Such a refreshing summer drink- dare I say one of the best watermelon margs I've had in the city!!! ? Great happy hour. It's a drink where you do not taste the alcohol but after 2 you start to feel something ;)
Jose is an amazing server. He was so attentive, never had to wait to order- he was on it!

This is a very nice Mexican restaurant ????. Note that it is not located inside the Toolbox Bar, but rather is next door. I ordered a veggie burrito that was huge--very filling and tasty. The one thing that I liked less well about this place is that the vegan options are not clearly listed. Rather, you need to specify that you want vegan options--with no dairy--to the wait staff and hope they understand you (for instance, even after I emphasized that I wanted vegan food, they asked me if I wanted cheese and sour cream, which did not inspire confidence). I am not blaming the staff for this: if the restaurant owners take vegan food seriously, they should have listed the vegan items more carefully and trained their staff in this matter.
Colorful vibes in this place and happy hour drinks. Service was great too!
