I love this bakery, the experience….bakery produces some good stuff, some bad. Taro bun is very good, fresh is great. Coconut bun awful, egg tart very mediocre, I think some of the savory buns are ok. You have to experiment. Cakes are roughly put together, some good, some lackluster. Staff is very busy but always helpful and very good despite not speaking much English. But the general experience, especially on a cold day, of eating a warm taro bun w perhaps a coffee, is so good. A fun place to visit!!

My boyfriend loves this place and makes us stop here every time we visit Chinatown. He particularly enjoys the milk tea and fried fish bun. The prices cannot be beat and the line is long but moves quickly.

The very bad treatment. We ordered two coffees and a tea and he ended up giving us whatever he wanted. The coffee was so bad that we didn't know if it was tea or coffee. One of the sweets we ordered was harder than a rock.
The lady who took our tray switched out our buns when we weren’t looking. When we opened the bag, the buns were covered in sesame seeds (we did not pick up anything that had sesame seeds). What if we were allergic?? Didn’t eat them because they had custard in them and we do not like custard.

There is no bakery like Tai Pan Bakery in New York! Everything here is incredibly delicious, fast, and so affordable. The desserts are perfectly balanced—not overly sweet—making them an absolute delight. The pork buns and Portuguese egg tarts are the reason my friends and I have been coming back for years, and we wouldn’t go anywhere else for cakes—we order from Tai Pan for every occasion! The quality and consistency are unmatched. Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic and amazing baked goods!

Very delicious at affordable prices! However, slightly more expensive than other Asian bakeries. I went when it was very busy and items were warm. Lines here are quite hectic. You get your tray and use tongs to get the desired breads, then place the tray up front. When it gets to your tray, you can add additional cakes and items behind the glass or add none. You will pay through the counter near the entrance.

I tried a couple of their cakes, including the mango lava and green tea/Matcha mousse cake. Their egg charts are very crispy and buttery and great flavor, just kind of small, especially compared to Lily bloom/xin fa bakery in Brooklyn Chinatown (which I think are the best)
The mango lava is decent Moose, not such a strong mango flavor. The green tea Matcha has a very good soft sponge with solid Matcha taste. We got an 8 inch cake for lunar new year which is displayed. Very reasonable price for $42. I think to get comparable quality consistently it would need something like back. For the cakes, you do have to order 2 days ahead of time and as other reviews have mentioned cash only.
I stopped by Tai Pan Bakery in Chinatown and had a pork bun with a cup of coffee – and wow, the bun was amazing! It had the perfect balance of flavor and texture. There’s a seating area where you can enjoy your food and coffee right there, which makes it a great place to take a break. Just a heads up, they only accept cash, so make sure to have some with you. Definitely a spot worth visiting for delicious baked goods!”

A good place for baked & fried stuffs. Kind staffs. But, total experience was not good because of other rude customers. It seems cash only.

The breads were not labeled properly. :(
But desserts are as usual tasty. Seemed like they use more gelatin in mousses now than earlier. Green tea mouse is delish.
It’s a cash only place - go figure. If you ask for the total - they lift up a calculator and show you. English speaking folks … all the best. Take what they give and walk out.
I wanted 4 forks - had to ask 4 times and kept getting a single every time. It’s almost an institution on Canal ( along with Fay Da on Mott) and we love it.

This place is so different from when I was a child. The Chinese baked goods are off the chain though.
