I was a waitress at the Temple Bar back in the day. The place was amazing. The drinks were divine and the food was well prepared.
2 stars for the bartender and the ambience, which is however ruined by the most pretentious and rude host (who was there on July 25th) I have ever encountered at any bar in nyc. He needs to lose the attitude, learn how to speak clearly, and learn how to be a host. He really ruins the whole vibe of the place. I will not be returning.
Very overrated. The host asked us if we were OK standing even though there were plenty of places to sit our drinks took 40 minutes and several minutes to get our check after one drink. Overall, they are understaffed but also act like they are crowded when they’re not.

Giving 3 stars JUST for the ambiance and the beautiful hostess. I've never encountered a more rude bartender in my life. Lack of profesionalism and arrogant attitude of the guy left me speechless. Waited for him half and hour to ask for a drink and left because he was so bothered. Its crazy how stuck up can someone that works in hospitality can be, especially when tip is 20, 25 or 30% of your bill in NYC

Giving a one star is generous. Immediately upon entering we felt the unwelcome vibe. Don’t waste your time here if you value your self worth. Overrated and not even good (according to the other reviews) also the bouncers have a ego complex, please humble them
One does not stumble upon Temple Bar; one arrives, as if by design, or fate. Outside, a threshold rather than an entrance. Inside, low lighting, conspiratorial. The bar gives the sense of permanence, as if it has always been there. Behind it: shelves meticulously stocked, not crammed but composed.
Cocktails here are not invented; they are rendered. The Negroni is exemplary and there is a kind of intelligence behind the bar, not loud, but deeply felt. Snacks appear with modest flourish.
Temple Bar is not trendy, though it is unmistakably of the moment. It is timeless, in the way that only places built with restraint, taste, and an eye for the eternal can be. One leaves slightly altered, as if reminded of an old standard you didn’t know you still believed in.
You will want to return.

Bouncer was really rude

the bouncer was unbelievably rude, easily the worst I’ve ever encountered in nyc. fire him, or keep losing customers. I’m never coming back.
Went here on a date years ago and it was chill but just tried to walk in with 2 friends and sit down for a drink. There was 2 other patrons in the place, they led us to a spot with 2 bar stools even though there were three of us and it was empty, then proceeded to say they could only accommodate two bar stools at a time. Cool, happy to take my business somewhere else where they will seat me. Absurd since the bar was empty. May have been anti-semetic treatment, not sure.

I wanted to celebrate my husbands work promotion here but the bouncer was very aggressive, rude and I felt racially discriminated against. It was 12:05pm,
no line. 3//1/25. The bouncers were power tripping. He had me take too many step back until I said where would you like me to go. Welp …. Would never try again!
Impressive cocktail menu. I loved my olive oil martini! The best popcorn! Quiet, comfortable - we sat at the bar. The bartenders were attentive and warmed up to us throughout our stay. We did not have reservations; just from the experience with the host, it seemed like they would be helpful. I would go back!

Bouncer was fine. Seems authoritarian but in a security conscious way. Did not feel he was rude, just a New Yorker.
The waiter was such a lovely guy. He really brings the vibe of the place up :))
Atmosphere was good. Decent music. Great soft drinks. The popcorn snack was cheap, gross and too salty though. Replacing with simple potato chips would be much better.
Strange to only have 1 toilet open.
