As a New Yorker who's lived in the city for over 13 years, I've had the chance to dine at a lot of different places from dives to Michelin 3 star restaurants. The Bea, in my opinion, is one of the best restaurants in the city for steak frites, a Manhattan cocktail, the burger, brunch (omg their scotch eggs are amazing), their friendly and prompt service and ambiance This past quarter, I've eaten at the Bea on 3 separate occasions: solo, with a friend and delivery through Caviar. On each occasion, the food has been excellent. Yes, they require dine-in guests to order a starter and entree for each person. This policy was told to me when they called and confirmed my reservation on both dine-in occasions. I don't understand why people have a problem with this policy; if you don't like it then eat somewhere else. In my experience dining in NY at the Bea, Shopsin's and other wonderful dining institutions, the diner is NOT always right. The Bea is one of my favorite places and I am writing this review as I've noticed some of the recent reviews don't give this place the recognition that it deserves. On a side note, I'm always suspicious of 1 or 2 star reviews coming from reviewers who haven't submitted many reviews on Yelp; it just doesn't add up.

Exceptional! The food and the service. Recommended to order the duck, but also the many other good steaks they have. I have try the special and the one from the menu. I really like the flavor of the one from the menu! Cocktails are very well done! I love the old fashioned. For the experience order the Manhattan! Can’t wait to go back.

Was taken to this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. The event was partly ruined but the childish behaviour of the establishment owner and servants. It started by the lack of measures for the current times. They pretended to record the information but there thermometer was dropped on the floor several times during the few minutes we were waiting at the door to be checked in. Never cleaned after picked up. The temperatures measured made no sense totally incorrect. And no, they were not in Celsius. Them they checked two parties that arrive after us before us because they were regular clients. I believe respect and dual treatment of people needs to be priority when having a public establishment open. Not to mention one of the hosts hugged the party of two that just arrived before taking them to be seated. We patiently waited. We got seated in a verystrange location two people seated side by side facing the middle of the crowded room. We tried to ask to be turned in only to be abused by the owner in a non acceptable tone. It was a special day we just seat down and hoped for the best. The childish behaviour continued the retaliation type of extremely bad service. I could go in detail here but is all way to low. The food is just large good quality meats but lack of care. The fries were very nice an non grease but when ordered some mayonnaise I got given something directly out of the jar, not acceptable, just say you don’t have if is to serve this. I wish I had liked this place I was very happy to be taken to a woman owned establishment. But it was an extremely unpleasant experience where arrogance and childish behaviour prevails.

We went to support restaurants during this difficult time.I don’t mind paying a lot for a truly delicious meal, but considering the prices I would say the menu is limited and the food is not that good. We tried the pork shoulder which was drowning in sauce and you could barely taste the actually flavor of the meat. This was the first time I went, and actually went a second time just to show support even though the food was not good. The second time, we were a party of 4 and were seated at a 2 top table, which was totally fine with us. We each ordered a drink, and the drinks were about 20 dollars each. We also ordered apps for the table and then some entrees to share. We were told that if we each did not order and appetizer and an entree we should leave. We ultimately left as we did not want over priced, sub par food shoved down our throats and we did not want to be forced to order what we didn’t want.I have been dining in NYC my entire life and I have never been told that I HAD to order an app and an entree- such a policy is tacky and bullish. While we were there another couple was having a similar situation in terms of ordering and the owner, Angie, went up to them and told them “to get the **** out of my restaurant.”Sorry to say that I will not ever be going back there.

Came for dinner with a friend. This restaurant has a minimum 2 entree and 2 appetizer policy (which imo doesn't make sense - it would be better to just have a spending minimum), so we ordered the steak tartare and scallop and lychee crudo for the appetizers and the bouillabaisse and rabbit for our entrees. Everything was delicious except for the rabbit dish. The most interesting dish was the scallop appetizer- scallops went along well with the lychee, and serving it with coriander and shiso leaves gave it a nice kick at the end. The bouillabaisse and steak tartare were well made and comparable to other ones I've had. However, the rabbit was a bit overcooked and oversalted and tasted a little like rabbit jerky. For a restaurant at level and price range, I'd expected better, hence the 3 stars.

Very in to this place and will be back again to try other items. Service, food and atmosphere were all Impeccable. Surprisingly the steak was the weakest link. The salads were awesome, the vegetable platter was awesome. High quality produce which I did not expect for a meat forward place. Burger was dope. Wine list was solid. Angie was walking around to every table to make sure everything was ok and was even cleaning off tables. I’ve never seen a chef/owner with that level of attentiveness and care in 10+ years of nyc dining. I was most looking forward to the steak but it underperformed. It was very interesting when you tried it with the butter, the blackberry and the Thyme but overall the steak had no flavor. Not worth the hype. Either way everything else was so good that this place gets 5 stars! Will be back to try more non steak items. PS- really appreciated one of the waiters who was super knowledgeable about wine.

Service staff was good. Food was good not outstanding for the price. Outdoor seating not great. For an expensive restaurant they didn’t have outdoor heating so if you plan to eat dress very warmly. Not a pleasant way to enjoy an expensive meal IMO.I notice a restaurant across the street had outdoor heating. That restaurant was not expensive.

Amazing! We got takeout one night from here, when Angie Mar was cooking based on her Instagram. Personally, I think she is a legend who can do no harm. I honestly think I probably offended her by not having the food fresh and hot and getting it via take out, but such is pandemic. I loved every part of my burger and herb salad. I don't generally eat potatoes because potatoes don't sit well with me, but I stole some from my boyfriend's dish and they were divine. I know that Beatrice gets criticized for all the good fats, but I love all the butter and the creams. That's the way things should be prepared. Overall, 10/10. Hopefully will be going in person soon!

Despite street dining being our new normal, Beatrice Inn managed to make the experience feel cozy, chic and organized. The food was amazing and the atmosphere they created was worth the trip. The staff were all friendly, on-point and didn’t leave anything wanting. The Duck Flambé was a show for the eyes and the stomach and the steak frites with escargot sauce was luscious. We started with the steak tartare and the kale salad and ended with the bone marrow Creme Brûlée. All so good we regretted not inviting more ppl to join so we could order more things to try. It was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend going. A piece of old normal in our new normal.

I'm so excited to be dining at the Bea this coming Saturday! It will be my first time dining out due to COVID and mom life with a toddler. The fall menu has always been one of my favorites, so I am excited to see what Chef has come up with. COVID has sent our restaurant industry to its knees but Angie has handled it with humility and a hustle that is inspirational. I ordered take out when the first wave was at its height and the food was delicious and comforting. As a minority business owner in the heart of the WV she really pulled it together for her community and her staff, which I know she respects and considers her family. With that being said I am honestly appalled at some of these 1 star reviews. The Beatrice Inn and her staff have been nothing but accommodating and attentive whenever I have dined here. My husband is a vegetarian so he doesn't dine here often but whenever he accompanies me, Chef and her staff have always been accommodating to his dietary restrictions. They always remember me and make it a point to make me feel at home. It clearly states in the reservation notes that each guest must order an appetizer and an entree. As a proud New Yorker and avid diner I fully understand and support this. We need to do our part in supporting our beloved restaurants. I'm so excited that I already know that I will be ordering the scallop & lychee crudo and the roast flounder forestière. Can't wait to be back t

The Beatrice Inn is a NY institution, anyone who loves food should visit and it is sure to be at the top of your favorite restaurants list. Chef Angie Mar has created a modern elegant menu full of wonderful dishes. The oysters are fresh, the burger is the best in NYC (so, anywhere) - the duck! I mean! The entrees are inventive and changing with the season, you can tell the chef loves her craft when you're eating. The food is delicious. We had this divine flounder an early night in fall and It was the perfect experience sitting on the corner watching the west village and eating at The Beatrice Inn. Go, Go, Go- and remember why the finer things in life are worth so much.

So happy that one of my favorite establishments in New York has been able to operate and maintain their identity through this extraordinary time the city. Last week, two colleagues and I had the most incredible meal. Everything was delicious - we had the flounder (which was INSANE), the duck flambé (you need the photo op), Angie's very famous 45 day aged burger (best damn burger in the city), and of course her bone marrow creme brûlée (I meeeaaaannnn). Her staff was attentive, helpful, charming and really just the best in the biz. THANK YOU!!!!

The owner, Angie kicked my friend out from this restaurant for asking if should could eat indoors because it was too cold outside. This is unacceptable. The owner also shared derogatory comments about her on her Instagram story. They’re claiming they kicked her out because she mentioned the brand of her shoes. No customer should be discriminated against because they mention the clothing brand they are wearing. Of course where you’re dressed up to go to a nice restaurant you don’t want to sit on a gross NYC sidewalk, especially when eating indoors when it is legally allowed in the city. When you’re running a high end business you should expect guests to make particular requests, especially something as simple as asking to eat indoors.

They don't tell you on the website or on the menu that you HAVE to order an appetizer AND a main course. You cannot just order one or the other and if you do, you are told to leave. We saw the owner/chef hissing into the face of a couple dining next to us "F*** you! Get out of here!" We did not know what caused the problem, one minute they were sharing a kale salad, the next minute the poor bewildered couple were made to leave. It had to be seen to be believed. In 30+ years of NYC dining, I have never seen such behavior. Super trashy.
