Black Derby has become a favorite recently. Its a small place down some stairs from street level. Very cute inside, great ambience. Food is fantastic, thats what its all about.

The cheeseburger with brie and truffle dijon aioli was fabulous. The restaurant’s interior is beautiful with soft lighting. The cocktails are creative and my entire table loved their experience.

Love this restaurant - I've eaten there multiple times and it's always stellar. The food is delicious, the drinks are excellent, the ambiance is fantastic, the service is attentive, and the music is soft enough to have a normal conversation over dinner (which is rare downtown). My favorite dishes include the burrata and the tuna appetizers, the chicken and the steak frites for the main dish, and I LOVE the chocolate bread pudding dessert. Great place to take anyone - dates, parents, business associates, friends...The Black Derby is always top notch.

Good food and good drinks with a fairly cool far West Village vibe.

The food was absolutely delicious. I had the short rib as a a main, and as a table we had the burrata, the lobster mac and cheese gnocchi (yes, that's right), the brussel sprouts and meatballs. Every single thing was good. Ambiance also nice, lively but you can still hear the people you're sitting with. Service solid. Would definitely go again.

3.5-stars After compiling a long list of potential dinner spots, my brother stated that he was most intrigued by the menu at The Black Derby, so that was where we headed. The restaurant consisted of two rooms, but was very tiny! While one area housed the bar and some additional stools, the other was packed with tables with little space between them. Our server was very attentive and patient with our struggle to finalize our order. We requested some extra time to weigh our food options, but proceeded to order drinks in the meantime. Their Spicy Margarita was an upgrade from most in that it utilized aged, reposado tequila. The jalapeño infusion referenced on the menu was no joke; the drink was so fiery that I could sense the heat before a drop even hit my lips. My brother's L'Opale de La Presqu'ille de Saint-Tropez rosé was from the Cotes de Provence and possessed a dry versatility. We began our meal by sharing two appetizers. The bowl of Meatballs only contained a portion of two. The meat blend seemed to be composed of veal, or perhaps pork, along with the beef, as they were light in color and taste. They were topped with a chunky tomato-basil marinara sauce and a scoop of rich herb ricotta cheese. Two thick slices of garlic toast helped sop up the heavy sauce, but they were overcooked and possessed a burnt flavor. The Roots & Apples "Salad" was less of a plate of greens and more an elegant display of heirloom baby beets, gala apples, goat cheese, micro-greens, and pistachios. While fresh and delicious, $17 seemed like a very high price for the basic offering. When it came to the main courses, I went with the Arctic Char, which was flavorful, but a bit dry. The filet was served over melted kabocha squash, parsnips, salsify, and dabs of a sweet ginger-blood orange sauce, all of which contributed seasonal notes. My brother's Colorado Lamb T-Bone was tender and delicious. The lean meat was served with cumin-honey glazed carrots, sunroot puree, lemon-fennel, and a red wine ginger-mint gastric - a comprehensive list of adjournments spanning all of lamb meat's traditional, complementary flavors. The hearty dish was by far the most memorable of the otherwise forgettable plates. Our dinner at The Black Derby was enjoyable overall, but more like a 3.5-star experience that just got lost among the ever-growing list of "New American" restaurants. It offered a creative menu but little distinction from its competitors.

The food here is always better than I remember. Genuinely one of the most delicious spots in the west village.

Just had a delicious brunch at this hidden gem in the West Village of Manhattan. Food was very good! Prices are typical for New York. Service was good. Nice and cozy and warm in here. I highly recommend it.
