We stayed at the lovely Mark in New York City. I will start this review by saying how wonderful and courteous the staff was. Couldn’t have asked for more as far as hospitality goes. We checked in and had a late lunch via their room service. We were completely surprised at the quality of food we received. I ordered a grilled chicken Caesar salad salad, which was around $64 (yikes!) And a chicken noodle soup which was about $35+. When the food arrived, just by looking at it, you could tell it was completely underwhelming. The chicken was dry and looked as if it was sitting under a heat lamp for hours. It also was one piece of chicken breast and not cut just not appetizing from the start. Unfortunately, the food was not up to basic standards. The dressing look like it wast bubbly/foamy. I was not sure if it was bad or intentional. The dressing itself was not great.. Not appetizing in the least. The soup had absolutely zero flavor. No matter how much salt added it was flavorless. The broth tasted basically like water. We ended up spending about $130 with the soup and the salad. As I said the service was wonderful. Unfortunately the food was awful. It did remind me of hospital food and I hate to say that because again everyone at the Mark is amazing.

The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges is not just a restaurant — it’s part of the story of my life.

There are places that serve good food, and then there are places that become part of your soul. The Mark has been my second home for years, a sanctuary where countless unforgettable moments have unfolded — some joyful, some deeply personal, all meaningful.

The steak? Unmatched. Simply the best I’ve had in New York — rich, flavorful, always perfectly prepared. And beyond the food, it’s the atmosphere and the people that make it extraordinary.

The entire team — from the waitstaff to the management — have always welcomed me with warmth, grace, and true professionalism. They have never once made me feel like just another guest. They made me feel seen, known, and truly cared for.

In a city full of luxury and noise, The Mark stands out as a timeless space where elegance meets authenticity. Every visit reminds me why I return again and again — not just for the taste, but for the connection.

Thank you for being a place where I’ve felt at home — during celebrations, reflections, and everything in between.

Do not go to this restaurant if you are a person of color—you will be discriminated against.
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I never leave reviews, but after the horrible way we were treated, I felt compelled to speak out.
My coworkers and I (five Black women and one Black man) went to this restaurant for lunch before heading back to the office after visiting the MET. After serving us water, our first waiter never returned to take our orders. Instead, he chose to spend his time chatting with the woman seated behind us, who had already received her food. He only acknowledged our presence again when he instructed our new waitress to ask one of my colleagues if she was positive that she wanted to order the steak. His tone and behavior made it clear that he did not believe she could afford it. Every other table around us was served bread immediately, but we had to ask for ours.
After finally placing our order with a different waitress, we waited for almost an hour, yet our food never arrived. We were never given updates—we were simply ignored. When we finally asked for an update, we had to inquire three times, and each time, we were given a different excuse. We pointed out that it shouldn’t take this long to prepare some burgers and a rare steak, and instead of addressing our concerns professionally, the staff responded with hostility. One male waiter even got face-to-face with my female colleague, angrily insisting that the ridiculous wait time was justified because we had ordered burgers. As he scolded us like children, he aggressively jabbed his finger into our table.
At that point, we had endured enough disrespect and decided to ask for the check and leave. As I said before, I don’t usually leave reviews, but I have never experienced such blatant mistreatment at a restaurant. It is deeply saddening that, as Black people, we cannot simply walk into an establishment and enjoy our lunch break without being judged for the color of our skin. It is disheartening to live in a world where staff at The Mark feel we are undeserving of the same level of service they readily provide to their white customers.
I hope they recognize the error of their ways and change their hateful mindset for the better.

Kills me to give only 2 stars as Jean Georges is my favorite chef, but this place is completely overpriced for what it is, mediocre. Too many great places in this neighborhood to settle for this restaurant. The burger is good and then it goes downhill in a hurry from there.

It was shocking how bad the food was. We were a party of six and had the steak (flavorless), bread(dry to an extreme), kale salad (odd spice), profiteroles (cardboard). Never mind how much this restaurant charges; the food is downright terrible.

The place was beautiful, that's the end of the good i have to say about this place. I have family members in the restaurant and food service industry and as is customary for me I bring a small pack of beers for the staff in the kitchen. I then was seated, I was offered drinks which I received. Then I waited about an hour for someone to return to and no one ever did. I had to stand up and walk over to the gentleman who got me the drinks and ask hey what happened? he then had a attitude about me questioning and said there was a problem with some sort of computer system. I said well that wouldn't affect someone coming and taking our order or getting us a second drink. He then had an attitude again and got us more drinks. The food then took exceptionally long once again but it being my wedding anniversary I didn't want to fuss. I then asked again hey what's up with the food the server then he sent someone else to me. The food then arrived cold and outrageously salty like uncomfortably salty. So I finally gave up and said hey I just want to leave. The new server asked if I wanted the food to go and I said no it was really not good but I appreciate the check so I can pay and go. The server then took it upon himself to have the manager come speak to us. I explained what happened and the issue with the service and the food and she was asking if I wanted to return another day and try again. I said I appreciate the offer but I didn't enjoy the experience I don't want to get anyone in trouble so I want to pay and leave, she then apologized and didn't make me pay for the meal. Maybe I just had a bad server on a ad night in the kitchen but it was not a good experience on any level but the manager was very understanding even complimenting me for brining the beer for the kitchen staff.

I had a truly memorable experience at this restaurant located in The Mark Hotel building in New York. From the entrance, you are greeted by an elegant atmosphere, dominated by shades of turquoise, which give the space a special sophistication. The arrangement is particularly well thought out, with every detail chosen with care – from the perfectly laid tablecloths to the impeccable crockery and glasses, which complete this luxurious ambience.

The menu impresses with a varied selection of sophisticated dishes, each of which is a perfect combination of taste and aesthetics. Each plate looks like a work of art, with an impeccable presentation that awakens all your senses. I enjoyed several dishes with specific black roe, and every mouthful was a revelation. The flavors were so well balanced that they seemed to tell a culinary story.

The service was impeccable. The staff were extremely attentive without becoming intrusive.

Overall, this restaurant is a gem of New York gastronomy, a place where sophistication and quality blend harmoniously. Highly recommend!"

A BIG disappointment! Dec.'24 dinner--good for socializing--not foodies. Steak without flavor (sous vide?), bass (sauce&veg) mediocre, kale salad without flavor, heavy acidity (lemon?),
1 or 2 croutons and please don't refer to it as a Ceasar. Spiced Samosas were ok--brought in? The above was just several
items discussed. Overall, not worth it. Drinks and service were good.
