Its was a nice hotel and breakfast was included. The people were really nice but 2 things. 1 When we arrived the shower floor was slimy like they didn't clean it. 2nd we paid 150 dollars for parking for 3 days just to have my side mirror damaged and now the signal light doesn't even work. So I have to pay on top of the 150 just to get my side mirror fixed.

The Maxwell exceeded all my exception. From the moment the doorman opened the glass doors, we was cheerfully greeted. The front desk rep welcomed us with a huge smile and made our checkin process smooth. Our bags were taken upstairs and upon entering our room we was amazed at the beautiful decor and how well thought out the staff was in having a well stock supply of toiletries and refreshments.

Staying kind to my wallet I had purchased my stay thru a third party. However, that didn't stop the staff at The Maxwell hotel from treating me any less. After I checked in, I was greeted with $30 drink vouchers for each night I stayed (I meeeean, what's there to complain about?!). The hotel all the right vibes - from the lobby music, the ambiance, and the friendly staff ... THIS IS THE SPOT! Sexy, Chic, and Classy. Thank you Lee for keeping my room tidy. And.. Cindy, Thank You for going the extra mile to help me out! Your hospitality and your presence was greatly appreciated. Thank you ladies for making my stay feel like Home!

Nice hotel. Has everything you need. Good location to explore NYC. Note that the mini bar in room is on a scale. As soon as you lift something off, even just to look it takes it adds to your automatically...so unless you actually want the water chocolate or crisps..don't touch!! Tip - there is a Dwayne read literally a block down where you can buy drinks crisps and chocolate for your room and its cheaper!!

Well located, but the room is small, no refrigerator, but it has a safe. It was weird that they only offered a shampoo/conditioner in one product - I had to go buy my own. I didn't have a great view, but I'm sure there are some wonderful ones available. Otherwise, the food is delicious.

It is a nice hotel to stay for a few days, the rooms a bit small but the staff was extremely professional to welcome us.

The service was amazing. Kevin at the front desk went above and beyond to early check in and upgrading my room. The only reason it was not five stars is due the fact the rooms are really dated. They have not changed since it was the W. With that said, I would stay here again as the service was excellent and the rooms were clean! (Just dated;). Highly recommend and I travel frequently!:)

Honeymooning across the States we booked the Maxwell because of it's terrific central location. We were very impressed to find a modern, understated and stylish hotel with a great bar and restaurant. Karina and the front of house team made us feel incredibly welcome after a long journey and were so helpful with any requests. Perfect for the tourist or business visitors.

It has been a long week on the road and still some to go. I am feeling pampered at The Maxwell. I think I can make it. I'll get by with a little help...

The location is perfectly centered around everything you might want to do in lower Manhattan, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Grace and Dennis both helped me get an early check in/late check out which was insanely helpful considering my travel schedule. Also they provide really cool perks like free Citibike passes and drink vouchers. Room was small but amazingly comfortable still! All in all a great hotel I would happily stay at again.

Great affordable hotel in the heart of midtown east. The rooms are small, but plenty big enough for everything you need. Great friendly staff. Would totally stay again.

I've stayed at better places in the city. First, I booked my stay not knowing there was a daily fee in addition to the room rate. The lobby is beautiful, but the rooms are worn down. The furniture that was in the room that I had was knicked and battered. The front desk service was just okay. The folks were robotic and lacking in any sort of personality.

Water is brown. Towels are soiled.. they even moved rooms to get other towels that are soiled. I'm grossed out. Do not recommend

How do hotels get their stars anyway? I think the problem with the Maxwell is that it's a 3 star hotel that was somehow given 4 stars. It's totally worn down and outdated but it's still a perfectly fine place to stay. So temper your expectations, don't overpay, and you'll have a great experience. Details: there is a resort fee. Just expect it. Most hotels in New York have resort fees and this is the lowest I've seen. Plus they give you a voucher for the bar to offset it. My reservation also included free breakfast. The last time I visited NYC the hotel I stayed at charged $40 for pretty much nothing. The bar is open from noon to midnight and you can use your voucher for anything... coffee, food, drinks, dessert... They have lots of options and the food is really good. I stayed in the "cozy queen" for much less ($147 incl taxes and fees) than a queen room at the Yotel and it was bigger and in a better location. The bathroom was very scuffed up. I had to put two towels on the floor bc it was so freezing but again, just think of it as a 3 star not a 4 star bathroom. The staff is great but don't expect them to read your mind or give you a thorough overview of the hotel. Read reviews and ask questions. They are very nice and accommodating. Be patient at the bar. Obviously with vouchers, it will be packed. If breakfast is included, go early. It starts getting busy later in the morning. You will get coffee, OJ and a choice of a croissant, pastry, oatmeal OR two egg breakfast. If you get the eggs, don't get scrambled... they turn out a bit dry. If you don't want to stay, just ask for coffee and a pastry to go. The 2nd floor has another full lounge and a huge bathroom. The gym, on the 4th floor, has free earbuds and a water station so you can refill your water bottles. I didn't actually use the gym but it looked like it had decent equipment. So yes, the hotel needs to dump the pretentious name, get a renovation, and lose a star, but for the right price you should stay there.
