My favorite kind of buffet style. Lots of delicious options, with more to order e.g. sandwiches and special dishes. Delicious and I left feeling like I had a balanced, nutritious, sustainable meal. Bravo! šŸ‘šŸ»

On August 5, 2025, I was charged $815.46 for a small pay-by-weight plate at Uptown Veg NYC. Management later acknowledged on the phone that the charge was an error and said they would provide a written confirmation, but I never received the promised letter despite multiple follow-ups by phone, text, and Instagram DM. I have documented calls and messages confirming their acknowledgment of the overcharge, and I’ve been working with my bank to correct it. I’m sharing this so others are aware and so the restaurant has another opportunity to resolve the issue publicly.

Probably the best value for money we found in our entire NYC trip. A huge selection of dishes to choose from, and brilliant soul food from a fully plant-based establishment.

We went for two plates, getting:

-Rice and Peas
-Collard Greens
-Mac and Cheese

on both with jerk ā€œchickenā€ on one and ā€œchickenā€ curry on the other. You pay by weight for the plates, so you have full freedom to choose whatever you want from an extensive soul food menu. Occasionally, I've found that mac and cheese can be a bit dry in similar establishments, but I absolutely could not fault it here. Everything was delicious.

For the price, we didn't see a better ratio of cost to volume and flavour for the rest of our trip.

Staff were warm and friendly to boot! A must-visit for vegans in NYC.

I’ve eaten here countless times when I needed a quick bite or a good juice. They were always delicious and there were so many options!

I really loved their drumsticks! They have 10-11$ burgers/wraps (09/2025) and lots of different foods by pound! They also have some cakes but I didn’t try it. What was really surprising is that they have drumsticks! So good I ended up ordering more.

Absolutely delicious. I loved everything especially the mushroom jerk chicken. Just go and let them fill up your plate. You won’t be disappointed!

Ive been here twice and had high hopes. The food is hit or miss because sometimes the food is good and sometimes its mediocre. The worst part for me was trying their apple pie and finding out they don't peal the skin off their apples before it's baked. I mentioned it and was told that they normally leave the skin on them. Worst apple pie I ever ate.

I've eaten at Uptown Veg multiple times over the years and the food is flavorful. I do not live nearby but always pick up the vegan chick'n salads and macaroni salads. I also like their eggplant fritters and it reminds me of the same flavors as saltfish balls/fritters. I've also tried the hot food and I like the stir-fried chick'n, collards, veg mac & cheese, drumsticks, etc. The desserts change, but I've liked the sweet potato pie.

Been coming here for years when I need a vegan soul food fix and the food is always consistent. Today the barbecue drumsticks and jerk chicken were on point! The Mac, Greens, and Mashed potatoes needed a little salt but I prefer it that way, as it lets me season it the way I like. Also had the sweet potato pie. Nice Sunday lunch!!

Prices are absolutely crazy. You will spend minimum $25-$30 for one person without getting a dessert. Insane prices for this location and atmosphere of a garage. No sitting. One table and two stools. If you want to eat there - be prepared to takeout, no place to seat. Container they place your food in leak. Be careful.
