Was in NYC on a business trip and went to Utsav one night for dinner. A coworker based on NYC had indicated that Utsav was the best Indian restaurant in NYC. Enough said. Sold! 😁
My visit didn't disappoint. We had several appetizers, though I admit I don't know which ones. I'm not vegetarian, but several of the appetizers were, and they were delicious nonetheless.
For my meal I had the Butter Chicken, with Basmati rice, and an order of naan. All were excellent.
Thanks for a great meal. I lament not taking any photos. Next time!

This was a very pleasant surprise, excellent, possibly the best Indian and Bengali Food in NYC. Great location, it’s a short walk to the Grand Central Station. At a very reasonable cost,
especially for the location. We loved their luchi, fish, fry, mutton and chhola-r daal. The service was great as well. Definitely the best Bengali restaurant around/One of the best Indian restaurants in NYC.

The service was not good, clearly understaffed and frustration can be visible. Male staffs are arrogant and not trained at all.
Food is okayish.Portion was good though.
Ambiance was good.
Will find better Indian restaurants in that area.

I recently visited Utsav in Manhattan with my family. While the food was a mixed review, the service was truly standout.
A heads-up for first-timers: the Utsav location can be quite tricky to find as it is tucked away on a skywalk between two buildings. Keep a sharp eye on the signs and don't hesitate to ask for directions!
As for the meal, my Chicken Chettinad was delicious and packed with savory, authentic flavor. My wife’s Chicken Tikka Masala and my mother’s Lamb Rogan Josh were just okay—we’ve had better versions elsewhere—but the service more than made up for it. The maître d' personally ensured we were satisfied, and the servers were incredibly attentive, constantly clearing the table and replenishing our waters.
Overall, the excellent hospitality and that standout chicken dish are enough to bring me back!

We went for happy hour No happy hour then told it was in the next room We went next door and the room had chairs chucked on the floor etc Not good
Sophisticated atmosphere and diverse menu, including Bengali specialties. Spacious setting and efficient service. Great option for a mid week dinner with coworkers. High-quality Indian cuisine at a reasonable price.
Exceptional Management and Unmatched Hospitality
One of the key reasons Utsav Indian Restaurant stands out is its outstanding management. From top to bottom, the leadership team ensures everything runs smoothly , whether it’s daily service, large-scale events, or last-minute requests. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and dedication to guest satisfaction are truly commendable.
The General Manager and staff are approachable, hands-on, and genuinely care about both customers and employees. It’s clear they lead with integrity and passion, creating an environment where hospitality thrives and guests feel like family.
It’s not just about great food — it’s the people behind the scenes who make Utsav an unforgettable experience. The management deserves full credit for setting such high standards of service and consistently delivering on them.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for not just a meal, but a well-managed, welcoming experience.

Great food. One could order anything on the menu and it would be good.
Be careful regarding spice levels, chicken angarey packs a lot of heat.
I would return for sure. The service is a bit slow but not too bad.

Great experience at this restaurant! We ordered egg devil, veg Hakka chowmein, and Schezwan chicken. The food was so good that I forgot to take pictures, managed to click one of the egg devil.
The chowmein tasted like authentic Indian Hakka Chinese, something I hadn’t had since leaving India 7 years ago. Really satisfying and nostalgic experience. Highly recommended!

A great place to have a relaxing, delicious meal prior to your matinee or any time. The service was lovely, the room was comfortable and the food was very tasty.
Naseem was a really good waiter. He was very accommodating.

Utsav stands out as a rare gem in New York City for authentic Bengali cuisine from West Benga and not the Bangladeshi style found elsewhere. As someone deeply familiar with these flavors, I focused solely on their Bengali offerings, and they delivered exceptional quality across the board.
The appetizers were highlights: Kolkata Fish Fry offered a perfect crispy exterior with tender, spiced fish inside; Mutton Chop brought rich, savory depth; and Devil packed a spicy, fiery punch that lingered delightfully. Kosha Mangsho was equally impressive.
While the execution shines, the menu has some notable gaps. I was saddened by the absence of Basanti Polau paired with Mangsho, and especially the lack of Kolkata Biriyani with its signature potato is essential for any true Bengali spot.
Utsav also excels in creativity with their cocktails, particularly Indian-inspired inventions. The Prem Kahani stole the show.
Overall, this is a must-visit for Bengali food lovers in NYC. The team nails the classics they offer, and with a few menu additions, it could be perfect. Highly recommended for flavor, innovation, and that elusive West Bengal touch.
