Had not been here in awhile. Periodically we were bothered by a screaming young child. Perhaps they could be seated in a corner away from the central area of the restaurant. Also, my husband wanted a soda with the can brought to the table so he could pour it; the waitress after checking said that cans were not allowed at the table which we never heard of before. She said she could pour it right before bringing it to the table but there would still be some left in the can so why not serve the remainder in a separate glass? Also service was not attentive and one of our guests had his order missing one of the dishes. I remember so many meals here over the years when there was more attention and concern for the customer.
We were very pleasantly surprised at this restaurant. The food was excellent, and the service was attentive and helpful. We eat Indian food a lot, but there were dishes. We had never tried before which we really enjoyed. As others have noted, the gratuity is included on the check, and it is not mentioned when the check is presented. We noticed it and it didn't create a problem, but just look at your bill carefully.
Tried lamb kebab appetizer- spicy but good. Shared chicken tiki masala- always good - wished it came with rice, naan, tried bengali shrimp green curry in coconut- too few shrimp and super spicy! Friend had lentil pudding - different. Be aware they add in a tip.
My friend and I arrived at 5 pm when the restaurant opened for dinner. We made it very clear we needed to leave at 6:15 for theater. We waited over half sn hour for order when many who arrived after us were already serve. The food was delicious but our eggplant arrived cold. The owner came over expressing her concern and offering us desert
DO NOY GO HERE. Should have been a clue when we walked in on Saturday at 6:00 and the place was 2/3 empty. But we sat down and ordered in any case. My wife likes mild and I like spicier but we were sharing. So we ordered two dishes and i asked for mild not spicy. The waitress repeated you want mild and I said yes, mild. There was no confusion. And yes you guessed it when the food came it was so spicy that even I could not eat it. When we told the waitress she offered no accommodation or apology. We ordered a lassie and some rice pudding to cool us off. The rice pudding was awful. Lassie OK. When the bill came I said to my wife at least I don't have to tip them. And I took a look and could not believe it. They had already added in a 20% gratuity without asking and with no notice on the menu. We paid the bill and left. T Truly the worst restaurant experience we have ever had in New York City. DO NOT GO HERE.
Outstanding food, excellent & really nice room but sadly not designed to limit transmission of voices from nearby tables which made it hard for us to carry on a 2-way conversation
We requested mild food but they did not care and prepared food that had lot of Indian spices. We have visited it earlier but this time it was worst experience and we will not return again. Not sure why chef did not custom make the order and they just rushed us.
Food is excellent! Wait staff very friendly and courteous. The Chicken Chettinad is amazing and my favorite cocktail is the Turmeric-Ginger Margarita.
Loved the location & decorations. We arrived earlier than our reservation time and we still seated right away. The service was amazing and prompt. They checked on us often. The food was literally a 10/10 wash I would've ordered more to go. I will def be returning
It was a business meet with my office colleagues. All Biryanis ordered were over salty that we had to request them to change them. Lamb gravy and naans were good. Drinks were ok. May be it was an odd day. Definitely I will visit another time and I hope it will be a better experience.

I loved the thali, great taste and quality. But I really expected to have refill of rice in a thali.
Utsav made an excellent experience for us with vibrant celebration of flavors, bringing the bold, aromatic spices of India right to the table. They have a specific menu for Bengali delicacies. Don’t forget to try Nolen gurer icecream. Would love to come back again
