It's 2024, lose the $10 minimum for credit cards.
Honestly, really fun. It was my birthday and they treated me like a queen! “Very welcoming even when we made a mistake” - thank you

Solid spot with good selection of options. Good crust
They have a couple vegan slices too which do get a little messy as there's nothing to bind the toppings but they're absolutely delicious
Their eggplant slice is my favorite

Food is very good. Just annoyed because they charge a dollar for a side of suace and have a 10 dollar card min. It's free everywhere else. You're already making me buy two slices, stop penny pinching and I would come back.

I got 2 regular triangle cheese slices and what I got was 2 slices of heaven. True New York slices , thin, a little crispy with a sharp and comforting taste. It's been a minute since I had a slice this good true to what pizza in NYC has been!

I've been on the fence about this place for a while, but my last visit was the last straw. Overall, their pizza has been decidedly average (and a bit too bready), prices have always stung ($5 for a Grandma Slice, really?), and service has frequently dipped into painfully aloof territory (any New Yorker asking for a slice "not too warm" needs it quickly, so stop heating it up to scorching temps). But as someone who often needs a bite to eat before work, I've been willing to put up with it.
No more. Whereas staff used to have the sanity not to enforce the classist $10 card minimum (we're still doing this in 2024, after all the post-covid restaurant inflation?), now there is a zero empathy policy that doesn't even let you put the stupid surcharge on your own bill and instead the staff push you to use the store's personal Venmo (you've got to wonder how that is being handed when it comes tax time).
I'm done putting up with subpar product, service, and pricing, all while some greedy restaurant owner funnels money into their own Venmo. I'll make a detour up the avenue or down the block to the better pizza places (I won't name them, but they aren't hard to find) or pack my own food and leave Village Square to keep fleecing the East Village drinking crowd out of their money.
1.5 stars and never going back.

With all the time I had spent eating around East Village over the years, I always walked past Village Square rather quickly to get to other places in the area. Most of the time there was usually a big crowd of people near the outside and sometimes inside. That area has quite a few late night pizza spots but this is one of the few that has been consistently busy and very well known to locals.
I just happen to be around the area after 3am on a Saturday night and you really do get those "midnight cravings" for some food (that tends to be unhealthy overall but oh so delicious). I had been walking about for a little bit and then made my way over to Village Square and of course there was a crowd of people outside (mostly eating and some waiting) and a good amount inside ordering or waiting.
Something told me I should hurry and get in and I am glad I did as they were about to close up in a short while (4am Friday and Saturday night). The space inside was designed to mostly standing room grab and go with some counter space on the side (usually just for some seasoning or spice flakes). The gentleman at the counter greeted me right away as I walked in as if I were the first customer of the day (I was definitely not expecting it). I took a quick look at the menus they had framed and looked toward the back table to see what slices were available (there was a good amount of pizzas left!).
I ended up getting one pepperoni and sausage slice as well as grandma. They have the ordering and prep down to a science which is how they handle the constant flux of customers. They ask for your name and then call it out when it is ready. I did not wait too long and all orders before me looked to have been handed out in a very timely manner.
Those thick square Sicilian type slices were always one of my favorites (of course the classic NY slice will always be one of the best). Getting to eat the pizza right when it got out of the oven is always quite a treat and more so for this place. It is a very NY thing to just be walking around and eating a pizza (especially late at night in the city). Pepperoni is always a must oder wherever I got and the grandma squares are considered fancier for me (as I do not order them often). The regret always sets in when looking at empty plates or taking the last bite of pizza crust....where you wish you ordered more slices. But Village Square definitely saved me that night.
As I compose this review, my stomach rumbles a bit and I am seriously considering taking a drive to VS to try and nab some late night slices before they close....

Disgusting! If you are from NY and looking for a true NY slice, this is not it! The pizza tasted like and had the consistency of a super wet crepe. It was basically inedible.
