I’ve been going to this place for more than 10 times now. In the recent years the food had gone unreasonably expensive and taste not as good. $34 for a fried rice…?! No… not coming back again.

This is a really solid place! The best part is for sure the backyard space, it really is perfect especially this time of year. The service was also great they were very attentive and we didn’t feel rushed. None of the dishes were specifically amazing to me but it’s very solid and the pricing you would expect for the area.

Called to ask if they had a table available and they said yes and to come right away and then put us on hold. We were on hold so long we got to restaurant by the time they took us off hold. Both the host and the person on phone said they forgot we called and had already given the table away

The short guy working the host stand outside on Friday night was shockingly rude to every single person in our group. From the moment we checked in, he acted like we were an inconvenience instead of paying customer, just attitude and dismissiveness. It honestly made the whole experience start on the wrong foot. How someone with that level of hostility ends up in a hospitality job is beyond me. If the management cares at all about guest experience, they seriously need to reevaluate who’s representing the restaurant at the door.

Service is great but this thai beef jerky is sooo good
I recently dined at Wayla with a large group of friends, and we had a wonderful time. It is our second time back and it does not fail to impress. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion, professional or personal, large group or small.
As you can see from the attached photo, the restaurant seeks to impress. If you are lucky enough to come with a large group, you may have the luck we did to sit in this private outdoor space in their backyard. It is particularly perfect if you are seeking a more intimate setting, private, but without any airs. The space is beautiful, comfortable, and unpretentious.
And even if you find yourself inside the restaurant or in the general space of the backyard, you need not worry. For what truly makes this restaurant worth visiting is the food and service. In fact, I can't decide which I was more impressed with.
I will begin with food. Wayla has recently changed their dinner menu and the results are exceptional. Even if you may find yourself missing the previous lobster noodles (sen chan pad, I believe), there are so many new stand outs you will forget you may have missed anything at all. When you visit Wayla, be sure to try as many of the following items as possible. For apps: Yum Nam Khao Tod, Nua Sa Wan, Sai Oau, and Tod Mun Kung. Even for the less adventurous eater, there are familiar dinner staples: chicken wings (amazing), calamari (with a great sauce), curry puffs, and Som Tum Thai.
Once you have gone this far in your order, the rest is easy: the branzino (Larb Pla Tod), the green curry with crispy duck (Gang Keaw Wan Ped), the ribs (my god the ribs--See Krong Moo Yang), and the steak. For larger parties, do not skip out on the veggies: the brussels and the long beans. Then finally, do a double dose of crab: Khao Pad Pu and Sen Chan Pad Crab.
My advice: bring as many people as you can so you can try as much as possible.
Now finally, go and visit this restaurant for the friendly staff. While we were graciously assisted by a wonderful server throughout our time there, it felt that all the staff members took the same time and patience with us. Any questions we had--answered. Anything we needed: provided. For example, if you are unsure of how much to order you can expect an honest answer to suit the needs of your gathering. If you want a description of the food, each staff member is ready to describe it before ordering and describe when it is placed on the table. If you have allergies, fear not--the knowledge here knows no bounds.
Before I sign off, I would like to particularly shout out the bar staff Billy and James for taking the time to walk us through the new cocktails and to Tom Tom for making us all feel special. We most certainly will be back for our third get together.

I am a huge fan of Wayla and make a point to go whenever I am in the city for work. I am obsessed with their new Crispy Rice Salad!!! It is so delicious, has the perfect balance of crunch and with the unique combo of sour sausage, ginger, mint that melts in your mouth. The staff is so fun and friendly. And they’re attentive when needed but not smothering. Thank you Wayla! See you in September!
10/10 best Thai & service in NYC.
food and drinks were excellent. fun atmosphere would recommend!!
The food is so exellent here and the atmosphere is even better! It is a cute spot with a cute patio that is perfect for many types of occasions. The waitress was 10/10 service and very beautiful as well. She showed thst she personally cared and we were not just another number.
Very disappointing.
The food was ok overall but the service was appalling. We ordered the crab pad Thai, which had several bits of soft shell that I had to be careful with. I accidentally swallowed one, and it was lodged in my throat for hours.
When I coughed and my friend informed the staff (cuz they asked), they were immediately defensive. A woman—likely the owner—told us, “Well, it’s crab. Crab has shell. If you’re sick, go to the hospital—I’ll cover it.” No apology about the discomfort caused by their food, no concern—just sarcasm and deflection.
She then told the staff, loud enough for us to hear, to respond with “It’s just crab” if we complained again. It felt dismissive and mocking.
In addition, on the way in, I watched her spraying Raid pesticide on the basement kitchen stairs—right next to the restaurant entrance. Disgusting.
After 13 years of dining in NYC, this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. We left the place in a pretty unpleasant mood. Not just because of the food mishap, but because of the complete lack of basic hospitality. There are too many other authentic & amazing Thai restaurants in the city. Never coming back.
