Yakiniku Gen is a fantastic spot for high-quality Japanese BBQ in Manhattan. The standout dish for me was the gyutan (beef tongue)—perfectly sliced, incredibly tender, and grilled to bring out a rich, savory flavor without being heavy. It’s easily some of the best tongue I’ve had in the city.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the potato salad. Simple but done exceptionally well—creamy, well-seasoned, and a great balance to the grilled meats. It’s one of those side dishes you don’t expect to remember, but you absolutely do.
The overall quality of the food is excellent, with authentic flavors and careful preparation. If you’re looking for real Japanese yakiniku, especially standout gyutan and thoughtfully made sides, Yakiniku Gen is definitely worth a visit.
