Ordered takeout for the first time since Yama 49 reopened. The food was as delicious as ever. Very excited to get takeout again next week, and the week after, and the week after that . . .

Food is getting worse quality, and the portions are getting smaller. I used to eat here maybe once every 2 months, but now I am not coming back.

Great selection of fish and cuisine but a lot to read and overwhelming menu. Simplicity is key! Overall meal - excellent and the prices are amazing for a place like this! Green tea was the best I ever had!!!!!

If you're anything like me (bad spacial orientation and looks for big signs/awnings to navigate), this place is hard to spot from across the street. There is no awning, so look for tiny letters on the wall beside glass double doors.

Plenty of seating (booths and tables) and amazing sushi. Fast service. Two private bathrooms.

The better of the 2 Yama locations in the city. I prefer the open space over the downtown basement location near union square. This is a great spot to satisfy some sushi cravings at an affordable price point. We ordered off the special menu on the first page and loved everything. Fried oysterss (3 big pieces), smoked fluke (tasted smokey and didn't need much sauce), (yuzu capaccio), and special sushi combo (a la carte choices were probably better since this was more standard, tuna, salmon etc). The highlight was the hijiki salad, which came with some kind of cut up fishcake and was warm with a generous portion. The only thing I didn't like was that we ordered 2 toro sashimi pieces and they were very frozen. Probably because they're not as popular. Overall reasonably priced and decent sushi.

Utterly amazing quality food here. The pork tomkatsu just disintegrates when you bite into it.

All the food is great, never crowded and everything is on time.

The fish is decent quality (but the uni was disgusting), the rice is not good (not a lot of flavor, tough and clumped together). It's a mediocre sushi place dressed up in fancy wrapping. The sushi sizes are ridiculous and not in a good way. I know this is kind of their thing but it's not appealing at all - you could cut a chunk off the sushi and have it as sashimi and have more than enough to for the rice. This is not the place for those who are serious about their sushi or who aren't impressed with a "bigger is better" mentality. The pork shumai was good and some of the rolls were decent, but overall was not a great experience and there are many better sushi places in the area. Will not be going back.

I have come to this place so many times for lunch that I just lost count, I brought my friends and coworkers here and they all love it. First of all, don't let the entrance fool you because the restaurant is a lot bigger than it seems when you walk in. I love the variety on their menu but my favorite is that you can pick 2 items on their lunch menu to make your own bento box. The food tastes good and the portion is satisfying. The interior is nicely decorated and it feels zen and peaceful, all of their staffs are very polite and efficient, if you are looking at a nice sit down place to have lunch, I would highly recommend this place!

The food was delicious, and when it comes to Japanese food the specials are some of the best value for money I've seen in middle Manhattan. The ambiance is excellent (very quiet and calm, with soft lighting), and the service was excellent.
