An upscale Cantonese restaurant that delivers on both flavor and presentation, though with prices to match. The interior is sleek and modern, a perfect spot for special occasions. We were super impressed by the flavor of every dish: the salt-baked chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful, the hot stone mushroom rice had rich umami notes and a delightful crispiness, and the scallion oil steamed fish was simple yet well executed with mostly deboned filets, the snow pea tips was hearty with chanterelle mushrooms added on top, and the braised abalone and pork was rich and decadent.

Every dish hit the mark, and the service was attentive and thoughtful throughout the meal. Overall, it’s a great spot for splurging on a special occasion or for a premium Cantonese dining experience.

We held our wedding tea ceremony at YAO and the experience was amazing. I would 100% recommend anyone who wants to have an event or have a high-quality meal to come to YAO. It was hard to pick a favorite dish there were so many. Some favorites: beggar's chicken, the fish, tomahawk steak, and lobster noodles.

The restaurant doesn't update their hours on Google Maps and does not close the reservation either. I got a reservation at noon and I did not realize they decide to close for two days temporarily for lunch until arrival(not on specific holiday). Very poor online organization. Please remember to dial in to confirm their schedule even if you have reservation.

I am Cantonese so our family has very high standards for Cantonese food. We have been to Yao several times (to both their original and this new location). I have to say, Yao is the best Cantonese restaurant we have tried in the US (and we have tried plenty), in terms of their quality of food and hospitality. Every dish is outstanding and you can tell the love and care for food from the head chef and owner in all the little details integrated in their dishes.

Attended 10 course banquet here. As good or better food than ChinaTown banquet, with a different atmosphere than ChinaTown restaurants. Laid back, clean, new and spacious. Authentic and very well prepared food. Jai, snow pea leaves, whole chicken, lobster, whole fish, and wagu beef short rib were standout delicious. Personally I preferred also avoiding the crowds and tight spaces of ChinaTown as well, though others might prefer the full ChinaTown experience. Service was also impressive and attentive.

Lovely upscale restaurant serving pretty good and authentic dishes. The black truffle oyster noodles are highly recommended, as are the roast duck, roast pork and salt baked chicken.

Restaurant was recently opened in Fidi area. Food was a bit expensive but understandable given the location. Highly recommend the steamed crab and peking duck. Fantastic service and decor. Good for large group so you get to try more things on the menu.

I'd say the modern take on Cantonese food here is worse than the normal take on it, way overpriced. Better to go to nearby Chinatown instead if you're looking for good Cantonese food.
