This is a very small restaurant but serves delicious rice rolls. There is a small side table for you to eat without seat. They prepare after order and it’s always busy. I came in around 9 am morning and there was about 30 minutes waiting.
I’ve had to change my review. Unfortunately this place has gotten too popular and the service has severely suffered. On three separate occasions now I’ve ordered and been told my order will not be ready for 20-30 minutes
Takeout with a small standup area for dining. Very friendly service and good tasting at a fair price.
Delicious rice rolls with a variety of ingredient options. Hours are kind of funky and I feel like they might be closed for a period during the summer so best to check before you go. Would definitely go back.
This small restaurant makes absolutely amazing rice rolls with the best one being the shrimp party of the combination special. The prices at every reasonable and includes sauces. The wait times can be a bit long but the best thing to do is to order first then go shopping and come back after the usual 25-30 minutes wait. It is definitely worth it and recommend trying if you are around.
The #15 is so good (savory, umami, all the good things) i dream about it sometimes
Yi Ji Shi Mo is not just another Chinatown cheung fun joint. It's the closest and most authentic thing you can find in New York (or even in the US) that echoes your childhood in Canton.
I adore how their rice rolls are handmade every time, even though that means you gotta wait for almost half an hour. They're paper-thin, silky, and smooth... It's the kind of texture that makes your chopsticks slip if you're not careful. You can taste the fragrance of fresh steamed rice and peanut oil at the same time. This high quality is even rare in China.
I got their Beef Rice Roll and it is just ridiculous in the best way possible. All the flavor hits right. It's a layered, umami, almost chaotic flavor bomb that I personally couldn’t resist. But be warned, though, this place is all hustle and zero comfort. No seats, no frills—you grab your cheung fun and stand on the sidewalk like everyone else. And yet, there’s something magical about watching locals and tourists alike slurping down outside the shop like it’s a street food party.
Overall, I love how there are no gimmicks, no overkill, just pure craftsmanship at Yi Ji. It’s chaotic, raw, but again beautiful, especially as a culinary experience. And honestly, it might just be the best cheung fun I’ve had outside of Guangdong.
Tip: Call them and order in advance so you can skip waiting for 20+ minutes.
Small place on Elizabeth st.
Provide affordable Cantonese chueng fen.
Try the signature and fish ball curry
I should have had large size of fish ball
Got their scallion and cilantro rice rolls. I had never had a rice roll, it was good.
Incredible noodles, worth 100% the wait
You think you know what rice rolls taste like from dim sum, but you don't. This is what a rice roll should taste like and what I'll be judging all rolls against from now on! Hearty, smooth, rich and oh so delicious.
Fish balls were good but pale in comparison to the silken mattress of flavor they lay on. Will definitely be back to try the others!
Cash only! Small counter to eat, and 2 stools outside.

My favorite rice rolls in the city! The Signature (roast pork, shrimp, cilantro, egg) - menu item #1 - were pure deliciousness. Small is still a big portion. Currently priced at $10, but worth it.
It was a 25 minute wait on a Friday afternoon/lunch time. Other than two stools outside the small shop, there is no seating, so plan to eat elsewhere or as takeout.
This place was a pleasant surprise. I like to walk until I see a hole in the wall place with a line out the door and is cash only. This is one of those places. The food was tasty, satiating, and you feel good after eating it. We got the #1.

Chinatown is filled with plenty of affordable small eats - the challenge is just to find them.
Yi Ji Shi Mo is one of those places that you will walk past without even realizing it. Tucked away in the middle of the block, all while having to step down into the restaurant, it is quite a hidden gem.
Serving a Chinese staple, these rice rolls are hot, made fresh, and easy to eat because of their soft texture.
I got their signature which comes with pork, shrimp, eggs, and scallions. I also added their sweet soup sauce and this absolutely addicting (what i believe is some kind of garlic chili oil) red garlic sauce.
The restaurant itself is small and very difficult to est inside when it gets busy. expect to wait at least half an hour to get your order on busy days!
I got the number one which was roast pork egg rice noodles with shrimps it was 🔥🔥🙂🙂
CASH ONLY
Delicious silky rice rolls with great tea eggs 3 for $3.50. My go to order is usually with shrimp!
