Fantastic Omakase. Fresh, Simple, and Perfectly Prepared.
No mayos, truffles, or heavy sauces. Just a great array of fish, nicely sized pieces. Pricing was more than fair. Our favorite UES Omakase so far.

Old fish and smelled terrible. I saw the person not wash their hands.

This spot is truly excellent. The selection of sake was nice and the omakase counter experience was comparable to places that charge double. The fish was fresh, the staff was friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable. Overall, can’t think of a single criticism. Definitely a hidden gem.

A few weeks back, I was craving sushi and wanted to go to our regular haunt, Zawa. But I was utterly gutted to find that they were closed permanently! However, we decidedly to walk over to the restaurant just to check it out and luckily discovered that Zawa was getting revamped as Sushi Yoshizawa.

Chef Yoshizawa decided to focus his attention on getting the best ingredients for his sushi & sashimi and it shows. We had the 12 course omakase and most of the fish was flown in from Japan. The cherry salmon, which is only available for 2 months, was refreshingly sweet, almost like a peach. The tiger prawn was succulent and the Hokkaido uni was on par with the freshest uni you get in Japan. The chu toro and otoro were also just the right level of creamy goodness. The sushi is Edomae style, and Chef Yoshizawa lets his ingredients and skills shine through in spades. We had a delightful evening back in the hands of Chef Yoshizawa and will definitely be back for sure!

p.s. They also recently added table service (and take out) focusing on sushi and sashimi, in addition to the omakase.

Compared to Sugarfish, the meals I’ve had here are mediocre. If I am near a Sugarfish I always go there for taste/quality but if I’m near my doctors I opt to eat here because at least the experience is more authentic as compared to the myriad of sub par east side Japanese restaurants.

Glad we chose this spot for the more traditional Japanese experience. We went with the Omakase and had a great time. The food was fresh and delicious. Service was kind. And the space is nice and simple. They also have a pretty d decent drinks program.

I’m a Japanese and Zawa’s omakase is as good as it gets for the price range. I go visit Japan often and many times I eat sushi there and feel Zawa is actually better. I’m a little hesitant to write this review because I don’t want this hidden gem to be overcrowded, but they deserve more attention.

High quality sushi, far superior than Sushi Seki
