You need to know what to get! I personally am not a fan of the fries (they’re more like home fries and the seasoning makes them too dry for my taste) but LOVE the eggplant falafel sandwich and the beet salad!

Vegetarian options: Falafel sandwiches, salads and sides!

Amazing food. If you’re looking for an authentic Egyptian food experience, Zooba is the closest to it. I’ve been to Egypt many times so I can say from experience. Of course, they do it their way, but they do an excellent job. Try anything on the menu and you will not be disappointed. Just make sure you order two sandwiches!

Persian good, a different taste.

I like the spice and cheese wrap, Hawawshi. Fries were good, too.

I so love this place! (When I reviewed this place on Seamless, I accidentally pressed 4 stars bc my phone is in black and white so I had to rectify it on here. I just realized it). The food is so authentic and the staff is so warm - everytime I visit my soul is warmed. I am grateful that such an establishment exists in NYC. ?. The food takes me back to fond memories of and in the Middle East ?? Thank you Zooba ?

Vegetarian options: The hibiscus tahini is heaven ?

Vibe and idea are both cool but this is one of those nyc places that are made for Instagram and not your taste buds.

I’m a huge fan of Egyptian food, so I decided to try this place out. I ordered the cheese hawawshi, which was really tasty, but it was messily assembled. The harissa cauliflower was a bit misleading—it wasn’t even cooked cauliflower! That said, the flavors were otherwise delicious.

Overall 3.5/5

Hawawshi: Original style 4.5/5. Tastes almost like Egypt.

Dukka . Good fries but it definitely needs its own secret sauce to dip in and I’m sure it’ll be way better.

Hawawshi with cheese: 2/5. Definitely not original but more importantly to me, the flavors didn’t meld well together and the ingredients were conflicting in my opinion.

Atmosphere: Decor is a definite 5/5. Ordering on screens is a breeze. Only thing is the large front kitchen island in the middle of the place which breaks up the room. I saw a few people ask the lady at the island where to order, and where the menu is, and I understand the confusion. But it’s a cool looking place for sure.

Service: the service wasn’t great but not particularly friendly both times I’ve been. But person at the island counter seemed not to be too knowledgeable about items, both with our orders and some of other customers’ questions.

Kosheri: 3/5 I really wanted to love it. I ordered it once to go and had it a few hours later and enjoyed it but thought about how much better it would be fresh in the store.

Second time, I ate it at the store and it tasted the same. My friend who also got kosheri had to ask for fresh onion topping since it was soggy. Also I’m used to kosheri with tomato sauce on it and this was very dry comparatively.

Finally, I think they serve the kosheri “for here” in bowls but we got ours in to go cartons.

A delicious fresh "homecooked -like" fast food. It is a lighter version of American Hamburger. The wrap and filling were delicious and flavorful, the falafel tasted good and fresh, and the eggplant was good. However, the ice tea tasted funky (like bad ice tea, not sure if it was supposed to tastelike that).

The staff were not attentive. It took a while after we submitted our order. There was no other order after us.

I rarely write reviews even when a restaurants food is inedible but I had to write a review for my experience here. First things first, credit where credit is due the food was actually really good and the cooks did great.

HOWEVER, the experience was marred by the horrible food santitaion practice I witnessed with my food. I watched as our cold prepared foods were accidentally given to a table and sat amongst the people at the table for at least 5-10 minutes before the front server realized. When she told the table her mistake they gave back the food items, handling the food themselves, to give it back to her.

I then saw her put the food, that had been sitting at the table and handed to her by the people, directly onto our tray to serve to us. I have worked in the food industry pre-covid and even then when food was set at the wrong table it was immediately discarded and new food was made. When she called our name to get our food, I asked directly if the two dishes I saw were the ones that the guys handed to her. She said “yes, but they didn’t touch them” and that’s it. I was shocked and said okay, she then reluctantly asked if I’d like a new one. This should be standard not an inconvinence to them. I felt like they were annoyed I even thought it was wrong. We took the food anyway and said it was fine as luckily we are not squeamish about that cause again the food was good. But the audacity that the front desk provided by giving me an attitude due to my expressed discomfort with this practice was more disgusting then the fact that my food was taken from a table and given to me.

Do better, have the service match the food quality.

I’ve been a big fan and supporter of this place for years. I’ve always really enjoyed the food and being able to sit in the restaurant and look out onto the corner. The food is fantastic — which is a highlight. The issue is they change the restaurant around just about once a month. One day you’re ordering from a counter with a human being and seating yourself. The next day you’re ordering with a waiter, the week after that it’s a screen but then a waiter seats you. Now it’s just straight up ordering off of a screen and seating yourself. One of the biggest downsides is that now even if you get the food to dine in everything is served to you in little plastic to go containers. Not only is this awful for the environment but it really devalues the food you are eating and paying good money for. Sadly even though I really love the food at this restaurant I don’t think I’ll be dining here anymore. Also now it costs $5 for 3 pieces of falafel served to you by people that seem incredibly disinterested in you or your experience at the restaurant. Tap the screen — get your slop - sit down and shut up.
