Walk off the ferry in Ocean Beach and walk into the best restaurant on the Great South Bay. The location, service, and food are unsurpassed. The Curry Shrimp is spiced to perfection. It is a generous portion, but you will want more. Lunch or dinner is a Five Star experience.
The food and service was amazing . The hospitality amazing and LiLi enjoyed her Birthday Song . Cathy was the most sweetest server/hostess ever !! Amazing Vibe ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We had a very nice meal here back in October. Our server, Shannon, was outstanding and took excellent care of us. The location is fantastic, sitting right on the water and made for a very pleasant meal. We had the calamari appetizer (very good), the Sauteed Flounder, which was okay and not worth $40, and the Gourmet Burger. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger. Since we came over on our boat, we weren't drinking, but the bar area looked pretty cool. We will come back again.

The owner takes good care of everybody. He’s always got a watchful eye and is looking to make sure service is attentive and welcoming.
Thanks!
Stopped by for a quick bite before our departure from the island and have to say that Island Mermaid tops the list as the worst food we’ve had in a recent history.
Pros: great location, that’s basically what you are paying for. View of the ocean, and hustle and bustle along the pier & boardwalk. Service is prompt and friendly.
Cons: absolutely terrible. Medium burger ($29) was burnt and dry, cheese was stuck to the bun & not the burger for some reason. It’s served with mashed potatoes which is a very unusual choice to say the least. 99% of the restaurants serve burgers with fries. Crab cakes ($39) were dry and bland, those were either frozen & then microwaved or re-heated multiple times. Side dishes for entrees were rice and veg and rice was old & dry. Seems they re-heated a day old rice which can cause botulism and veg was dry & wilted. Looked like it was from a dollar store frozen veg bag. Mac and cheese for kids was ($15), I am not even exaggerating, just a soup of penne in a pool of velveeta. Cocktail with pineapple juice in it tasted like it was from a can. ($18)
Experiences like this make you question the whole process of dining out. Expectations the guests have while dining at touristy places like Island Mermaid is to have a normal meal that’s closer to fast food quality but higher prices due to the location. We were not expecting an amazing meal, we were just hoping for a decent no frills meal. However, the value you get is more closer to re-heated Dollar store frozen food aisle.

The place was hopping, and we were seated 15-20 minutes past our reservation, but the service was great (shout out to Jackson, the hardest working server ever)! The fried calamari is huge (4 people), and my scallops and husband's burger were delish! The main reason I gave 4 stars was that the crab cakes weren't great (should use jumbo lump).

Great service, great view, food was terrific. On fire island everything is over priced and overhyped. This meal was worth every cent. Go, ask to be seated on the dock around sunset.
I spent my birthday here I love everything about this place

My girlfriends and I have a tradition of coming to Ocean Beach every August and The Island Mermaid has become our lunch spot! Great food, refreshing drinks and excellent service .We love being on the water for lunch. All of the staff is wonderful and the owner is hands on .You can tell he loves what he does. We have never been disappointed and will continue our tradition at the Island Mermaid. For a refreshing treat you may be lucky enough to get one of Scotty's secret cocktails the perfect beachy beverage.

Contacted restaurant. We errantly told the staff our food was fine out of politeness. Afterwards we discussed our food experience concluded it was poor at best. A $200 lunch for eight should be great, not mediocre. Fish tacos, crums of dried breading on cold corn tortillas. Dry chicken salad sandwich. Dry chicken sandwich. Burnt chicken fingers. Fries might have been good if they were hot. Certainly the farthest thing from the photos shown on the resturants web site. Chef so and so must not have been present. I don't think the renowned chef was on the island at all. Drinks good, service good, dock support very good. A truly disappointing lunch experience had by us all. Was promised a gift card credit by the owner. $50 on a $200 tab. Never received it. He said he mailed it out the next day. I provided my daughters address on Long Island. Doubled chked it, was correct info to owner. He wanted us to call him again. Getting the run around. Be wary.
