“This is a great reason to support local businesses. Pizza is very good and priced right, $5-8 less than the other guys. And it's a solid pie. Wings are another strong point: great sauces, cooked perfectly and a good size.Service is as warm and inviting as it gets, one person nicer than the next. Love taking the kids on the weekends because it's not going to cost you an arm and a leg. This is what a neighborhood local should be.“

“Good doesn't begin to describe the food here, and the amount you get is pretty crazy. A few years ago I found this place when everything else was shut down, and I'm so glad I did.The catfish is fantastic. A simple cornmeal breading gives it a crispy bite with a tender and flaky interior, and the thin ends of the filets curl and brown in the oil, creating a nice crunchy treat. The red beans and rice are tender without being starchy, with just the right amount of green onion on top to give it that kick. The sausage in the jambalaya stands up to the heavy flavors and is a standout on its own.The grits are creamy and buttery. All of these are customizable with shrimp and other toppings that bring them from simple, but still delicious, dishes to fantastic fare that you'll only share because there's too much to eat on your own.And that's not all. Those were just the gluten free options. There's still crawfish etouffee, gumbo and cornbread. While I haven't had the pleasure of trying them, my family has and they tell me that all of it is just as good as the rest of menu.I know that this review is verbose, but if you take the time to visit this little gem tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, you'll quickly discover just why I can't shut up about it.Dietary restrictions: A great variety of gluten free dishes.“

“The food was good but VERY spicy...almost overwhelmed the actual main ingredients at times. Our waiter Nick was outstanding. The atmosphere had great potential but not taken. Our understanding is it was their last night. Closing and opening in the future under the name Nola. We did enjoy our evening due to the stellar service and mellow jazz music.“

“Best seafood we've had in the area. My husband and I were hesitant since the place was practically empty. Do not let this place fool you. The food packs a punch. I got the hibachi shrimp and the shrimp was sooo good!!! It was cooked in a flavorful garlic sauce. The veggies and the rice were both perfection!!! A spring roll came on the side and my only regret was not getting a side order of more. They were some of the best spring rolls I've had!! My husband got the lobster tail in a garlic butter sauce and it came with a small corn on the cob and potatoes. The corn was the most tender I've ever had and the garlic butter was just to die for. The lobster was just so perfectly tender. The prices were right on the mark for being seafood and good seafood at that! Everything tasted really fresh. Needless to say we've been talking about it all night and we're planning for when we come back! LolParking: Right across the street from paid parking.Wheelchair accessibility: It is all one level to get in. There are two dining rooms that have a step down but there is also an area by the bar with a few tables. I could say call ahead and make sure that will accommodate your group if you have more than 2-4 people dining.“

The Rooftop Bar At Nola Cajun/Creole • $$
297 Franklin St, Buffalo

“Our group went for a Sunday brunch, and I was quite impressed with the menu. For drinks, about half of us started with Cajun Bloody Mary's, and the other half sampled the bottomless mimosas. The bloodys were generously spiced and very tasty. They were sparsely garnished, which I did not mind - but if you're used to getting an appetizer in your bloody, you may be disappointed. There are three different mimosas - traditional, poinsettia, and hurricane. The hurricane was the favorite of the table, but they were all solid. We also shared a fried shrimp and crab cake appetizer, which was big enough for 3-4 to share. The crab cakes were excellent, flaky and flavorful. For the main dishes, the crab cake eggs Benedict was the best eggs Benedict in Buffalo. Eggs poached perfectly, sitting on top of the crab cakes with a well made hollandaise sauce. The Witch's Hash is another must have - especially if (like me) you're not a big fan of eggs. Spicy home fries and andouille sausage provide a nice flavorful kick, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Our table also tried the avocado toast with egg (perfectly fine, but not as memorable as the Benedict or the hash), the chicken and waffles (which were tasty but MASSIVE - two people could split it comfortably), and the Big Easy burger (half-pound burger topped with andouille sausage, crab cake, and a fried egg). The burger was delicious, and could be really spectacular from a visual perspective. They have really just started up doing brunch at NOLA, so be patient from a service point of view - we certainly did have some bumps during our service. That said, our issues were dealt with promptly to everyone's satisfaction, and the head chef (maybe owner? Not sure on that) got himself personally involved in fixing the issues. The food is definitely good enough to go into my rotation of Sunday brunch places, and once they get all the kinks worked out I think this place will be stellar.“
