After capturing a number of events at Stissing House, experiencing their staff and food, I cannot say enough great things about them! The location and atmosphere is stunning, the food is remarkable and the staff is endlessly helpful. If you are looking for a Hudson Valley wedding location, this is a wonderful one!

I had high expectations of Stissing House, as I believed Claire de Boer was both the chef and owner. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Having lived in London for many years, I’ve never had a steak and ale pie that was this salty, and the mashed potatoes were overly salted as well. The Southern collard greens contained sand, and the coconut cake was very dry. This fell well short of what I would expect from a restaurant with such a strong reputation. There are better dining options in Upstate New York, and I’m not sure I would return.

The chicken and coconut cake are the only things worthwhile really. Be aware that their house made sweet vermouth is extremely bitter, almost like an amaro.
I get that people want a “unique upstate dining experience” but this definitely seems like it is rooted in the city more than it is upstate. The staff is relatively pretentious, the atmosphere is very colonial for some reason (I’m not sure if it’s supposed to act as a time capsule like that, which seems a tad gimmicky and somewhat reminiscent of a themed restaurant) and the 4 tops that they separate into 2s in front of the bar are far too close to each other once separated.
This is the second time I tried it, I didn’t really enjoy it last time, and although I really wanted to like it this time, I was again disappointed. If it wasn’t so hard to get a reservation here maybe my rating would be different, but I really don’t think the food is that good either.

Stissing house is magical. Every time I go it’s better than the last. I don’t know how they do it but they treat you like a VIP. All the food and drinks are spectacular and their coconut cake is heavenly. Thank you to Aaron & the wonderful staff!

Pretty disappointed with Stissing House. The steak and potato meal meant for two was tiny and definitely not worth the $95. Food was decent but nothing special. Atmosphere was fine, but our waitress seemed rushed and uninterested. Overall, not worth it.

Hands down my favorite restaurant, ever. I have zero negative things to say, this is worth the trip up from the city, anytime I find myself upstate I will go far out of my way for a dinner here. Can’t recommend enough.

We went for my partners 30th. Very friendly staff, the stewed squash with goat cheese appetizer was delicious.
I got the snow dance chicken… Perfectly juicy with a crisped skin. Melt in your mouth good. My boyfriend got the Bavette steak with broccolini . It was perfectly cooked and very flavorful.

The vibe in Stissing House is unmatched. It feels like walking to an old, rustic tavern with candle light all around. The service is also top-notch and very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food, is quite simply, bad. Most of the dishes we ordered were far too salty and just didn’t taste great. The desserts were bad as well—the coconut cake was excessively sweet, and the ice cream tasted cheap. It’s a shame, because with such wonderful service and ambiance, Stissing House has all the ingredients for greatness—just not on the plate.

City girl here with high expectations. Absolutely immaculate vibes and incredible food. Came on a Sunday right before doors opened, already was a line out the door. Couldn’t get a seat at the bar right away, but got to wait in the lounge, where you can order drinks and snacks. Fantastic! Didn’t mind the wait at all, cozy by the fireplace.
Finally it was time for dinner and boy did they deliver! Was told the chicken was a classic, on the menu since they opened, so had to try. Best chicken we’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside, so juicy and tender inside. Artichoke and cup of broth also highly recommend. Seafood stew was lacking salt/flavor. Scallops were solid. Coconut cake is a must!

Buddy, I don’t know who Jake is, but he makes the best dang Gouda cheese I ever had.
Steak and ale pie with mash…that’ll be my last meal and I’d happily die right afterwords.
Great service, thanks to Emma + everyone else ! Get the coconut cake, obviously.
Can’t wait to return.

This was an exceptionally disappointing experience. The best part of the entire experience was having a drink in the lounge area before getting seated at our table. Super cozy. Everything after that was downhill. It took an extremely long time to get greeted at our table and served water etc., so much so that we were about an hour in when food actually started coming to the table. Not to mention the wine that we ordered sat in front of us at the serving station for a very long before anyone (certainly not the sommelier- we never saw one even though we were told in a rather condescending way that a sommelier could help us with selecting a bottle) bothered to actually pour it. We proceeded to both receive incorrect dishes as well as never receive dishes we did order. A painful amount of time passed between first courses and main dishes. Our server tried to make up for the terrible evening by offering us a slice of the coconut cake on the house, which we kindly declined as we were the last people in the restaurant at this point, however we found out after the fact that we were charged for the slice. Alas, the food did not make up for any of it. We ordered bone marrow oysters, pickles, ham, scallops (these were the most disappointing), and the bavette steak. This was a special night for us- a restaurant that we have been so excited to go to for many years and finally made it to for our anniversary dinner- and it was extremely disappointing.
Delightful
