Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday, and we’re already looking forward to the next time we come back! This place has a great vibe with the decor and candles at each table making you feel like you’ve gone back in time. Everything we ate was incredibly delicious. Service was great and our server, Simon, was amazing and had some great recommendations. I definitely recommend walking around checking out the other rooms in this beautiful place as well!

A great place with some amazing food. The cozy ambience of the place is warm and welcoming. The heritage building has it's own special charm that adds to the overall experience. Coming to the food, it is modern traditional fare, with flavours that work so well that it leaves you craving for more. We had oysters with bone marrow glaze and Coal roasted scallops with green butter. Both of these were amazing apps that was a perfect way to start the meal. It rightly whets your appetite. Then between my friend and I we shared the mains. A sweet fresh Rainbow trout with a crispy skin over a bed of fava bean and collards. The fish was flaky and delicious. Next was the hanger steak with horseradish potato mash and charred brocolini. It was that warm hearty food which is a hit with all. That mash packed a punch courtesy the horseradish! To finish off the fabulous meal was a sinfully rich dessert of almond pudding with vanilla ice cream with prunes. The pudding was decadent and rich and very tasty. A special shout-out to the amazing staff of the Stissing House. They were equally warm and welcoming as the place. They were attentive and friendly. We were running late and they went out of their way to accommodate us and make sure that our table was kept for us. This was truly a memorable meal and one of my favourite since moving to the US. Loved it !!!

When the scallops came out I burst out laughing!! Two scallops, $25. Excuse me, is this is high-end Manhattan seafood restaurant like Penny or Smithereens, with the freshest fish and best chefs? Nope.
Too much texture, bland, in a capacious pool of watery buttered sauce. Bread quite good though. IPA was very good. Bartender was quite nice. Overall, service is decent, if a bit undertrained for a spot billed as top shelf. Feels like a glorified chain restaurant with dark lighting and old wood tables l. With that said, for the area it is as good as you’ll find. Compared to great restaurants, na’, bush league.

Gorgeous building. Beautiful atmosphere lit only by candlelight and the fireplaces. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave helpful suggestions. And the food is so good!

Dinner at Stissing house was a disappointment with more misses than hits.

We had been wanting to try Stissing House for a few years. With the far drive and difficulty of getting a reservation, it took us a while to get in. Unfortunately, it was not worth the wait.

We went as a group of 4 adults and sampled a good portion of the menu. Here's a run down.

The good:
* Bread was soft, aromatic, and flavor; the in-house butter was a perfect complement.
* Scallops were perfectly cooked - tender, melt in your mouth; can’t go wrong with parsley butter
* Jack’s gouda was impeccable; we tried to find it in every cheese shop we went to in the Berkshires.
* The chicken/duck broth was killer.
* Coconut cake was light, airy, and flavorful - totally worth the hype.

The bad:

* Leeks were poorly seasoned and lacking any discerning flavor.
* The famous Chicken was bland and dry. Far worse than what you'd make at home.
* The Halibut was pure salt. No other flavor and poorly handled.
* The Salad was just leaves, no other vegetables in it and not properly dressed or tossed. Way overpriced.

Overall it was a decent meal, but it didn’t live up to the reputation. When you factor in the high prices, it's an awful value.

FABULOUS dining experience!!! Made a rez for my husband & I to celebrate our 15YR Anniversary on a November Friday. It was quite tough but luckily set 'notify' and one opened up. I also noted 'anniversary' so upon arrival the 2 gentlemen that greeted us immediately said "Happy Anniversary!", which was a lovely welcome. We were seated at a lovely table by the windows in the large dining room with the large bar & open kitchen. The restaurant is warm, rustic, chic, & charming with many other rooms and even more upstairs. Our waitress was prompt, professional, & personable. Besides excellent service, the drinks were delicious and the food was exceptional. Every dish was perfection. We ate so much food that we just wanted a little sorbet to share for dessert and our lovely waitress also brought out a large sundae with a candle on top as a sweet (literally) gesture for our celebration.
This was a PERFECT evening and I HIGHLY recommend dining here!

Excellent service and beautiful tavern dining but very overpriced .Martini $18 that was served in a small glass that looked like fruit cup .Haddock was very good but almost a child like portion served over some non descript mashed white beans and mushrooms that tasted like they had been previously dehydrated and brought to life, very bitter/sour tasting.Oysters were ok but at $30 for 6 I would have expected them to be served with some accruements other than a wedge of lemon.

The setting has a lot of potential, but c'mon guys, for $75 can we remove the herb stems and sharp cartilage from the rabbit properly... Aside from the 6 inch stiletto stem in my dish, the food was well-executed, but uninspiring and unsatisfying even in the vein of comfort and classics. Feels like the team has the ability to do better. Also, nothing wrong with French wine and I'm not dinging them for it, but seemed odd to have so much of it on the list in an historic American setting...

Way overpriced. Good atmosphere. Not enough staff so had to wait for table to be cleared. Coffee was cold. Entrees were not exciting appetizers were definitely not exciting. Nothing at all to make me say wow I have to come back here

What a hidden gem!
Order a drink and sit in the lounge by the wood burning fireplace. Grab a hand full of peanuts and watch the conversation flow in this intimate setting.
Sat at the bar too - excellent service and drinks were just right. Homemade chips are delicious! Didn't stay for dinner but will be back - Cooking in front of a huge wood fire was entertaining!
Worth the trip to pine plains

Last night my son and I had an extraordinary dining experience at Stissing House. From the moment we walked in we were transported to another place. The setting is warm and inviting. The candles provide a gorgeous glow. The menu is stunning - stunning. We ordered a lot and every bit was exquisite: ham, gouda, bread with amazing butter, leeks, scallops, halibut and a green salad. Topped off with a Sticky Toffee sundae - all divine. The service was impeccable. Can’t wait to return. .
