So gave Alex's a try. I ordered the full stack pancakes (3) with scrambled eggs and bacon along with a chocolate milk. The pancakes were ok nothing special same with the eggs and bacon. The chocolate milk barely tasted like anything. The service is great and the atmosphere is great. Little Cafe style/restaurant thats been here for a while. However, I wasn't impressed as this was my 1st time eating here but I will give them another try another day. Also parking is a pain if you didn't know

Probably my new favorite place! I literally can't complain about one thing! The food was AMAZING! The ambiance is a cozy blast from past feel and the staff are just as warm and friendly. My husband isn't always so impressed but was absolutely in love with everything and we will absolutely definitely be coming back!!

This place is disgusting. I took my daughter to eat in this diner and it was so old. As we we were eating a huge water bug came from a hole in the wall and I was mortified! I noticed also where the radiators were they had Brillo covering the opening to prevent mice coming through. The owner came and told me that the city was fixing the pipes from outside.. that was his excuse in regards to the huge water bug.. come to find out, there were no city fixing pipes outside! !! Never again..yuck

Been going to Alex's for decades. Everything you could hope for in a diner, and then some. (Note: open for breakfast and lunch.)Parking: You can park on the street (metered), in the pay lot on Market Street, or in the parking garage attached to the civic center (usually free).

Well right away I was afraid that there would be an insane wait and as a party of one, that's kinda deal breaker for me. However, I got seated at the bar immediately while the dining room was an hour wait! As soon as I sat down my server was there to ask if I wanted coffee, which I did. She was even kind enough to give me a small dash of almond milk instead of the creamer they had. The vibe was a bit of a madhouse, but it's mother's day and they obviously are THE brunch spot in downtown Poughkeepsie. The menu was a little restrictive for a vegan, but I was able to make due. If you're a vegetarian who allows Eggs, there's TONS of options. And I modify my plant based diet as Travel allows, so today I allowed myself some eggs. I ordered the 2 egg platter: Poached with Home Frys and multigrain toast (no butter). Plus the coffee, I'd say this was a great brunch for me.

Tuna melt, Caesar salad and vanilla milkshake. All were good. The staff are welcoming and receptive to any modifications you have. You can hear utensils clatter as they make your order. The atmosphere is comfortable and old-fashioned. There are many floor-to-ceiling windows allowing for natural light and a darker corner in the back.Overall, a nice place to be. I enjoyed my experience.

Typical brunch fare but a cut above diner: French toast, omelets, really good bacon and sausages; eggs cooked exactly as ordered; friendly and accommodating tho somewhat slow service, but perfect for meeting up with friends and leisurely visiting;unbelievably reasonable prices. Solid. Can't go wrong.

Home away from home! Thats the feeling one would get when arriving at Alexs Restaurant! From the moment we arrived we felt as if we were in the company of family and friends. Although, this being our first time, you would have thought we were royalty walking thru the doors. Greeted and welcomed by whom was also our waitress, Denise showed such delight and enthusiasm towards our arrival, as we took our time looking over the many options menu, and extended specials, Denise not only answered all and many of questions, it was quite warming and refreshing to hear her response of how everything is cooked and prepared with much " TLC" with excitement in her voice and a sparkle in her eye. It was obvious she enjoyed her place of work. After taking recommendations, the avacodo pesto melt, a portobello salad, and a bowl of lobster bisque to share, was prompt and nothing short of the rave it was intended!! Followed by their homemade rice pudding and a to go freshly squeezed strawberry lemonade!! What a way to kick off a New Year!! Bravo Alexs Bravo! May I add, our waitress was keeping up on what I would say ... a well kept, clean and caring restaurant and it shows!

I just want to give a little backstory before sharing my review for Alex's Restaurant in Poughkeepsie.Growing up in a small town of Ridgefield, Connecticut, my family and I went out to a small breakfast place downtown called Gail's Station House every Sunday morning. Their decor was all "shabby-chic" with mismatched old fashioned wooden chairs and tables. The walls were dressed with old antique hats and classic black and white vintage photos of the town from way back when. The waitstaff would always wear an antique hat while serving patrons. There was a high rustic wooden bar with a brass metal pipe where people could rest their feet while dining. Pastries and baked goods were always on display on the counter. A huge chalkboard hung on the wall of all their specials and hot beverages. The place was always very busy and the aroma that traveled from the kitchen to the dining area was always very inviting. The flooring consisted of primed wooden planks that creaked when walking in between the tables. During the arrival, you would breathe in a primitive and savory smell that was combined with whatever the other diners were eating. This is, without a doubt, certainly a favorite childhood memory of mine.As soon as my husband and I walked into Alex's Restaurant this morning (12/30/23), I was instantly brought back to my childhood. I felt like my heart strings were being pulled. I looked around and had the same feeling from when I used to step into Gail's Station House. We were greeted right away and given menus. Even the menus at Alex's were the same color paper and they were printed, laminated and double-sided the same way as Gail's! Our breakfasts were delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was above and beyond impeccable. You have a wonderful operation with amazing people serving customers. I want to say a huge "thank you" to the very lovely staff at Alex's Restaurant for being so inviting, cordial and personable during our visit. We were absolutely delighted to meet Michelle and Denise as we felt a friendly and welcome connection with them. I also want to give an even bigger "thank you" to the owner for taking me back to a time from my much younger years in a way that I didn't think would be possible. As I come to a close with this review (and tears in my eyes), I promise we will be happy to go back to your establishment not just as customers, but as friends. We look forward to seeing you soon and thanks again!Best,Candice & James

Great food, good price, friendly service, and super kid friendly!! My mom, sister, me, and 3 kids under 4 are a lot. But the whole restaurant was so friendly and helpful. My sister loved the horseradish burger and ate the whole thing. My daughter and I enjoyed their western omelette. They automatically brought out a second small plate for my 2 year old and separated my sister's boys food onto two plates with each having their own serving of fries and half a sandwich. Some places wouldn't even think to do this. Highly recommend! Also, super close to the Mid Hudson Discovery Museum
