Order bakalow with a side order of plantains. Was pretty good, but she charged $17 for a medium size while the other Nelly's in Poughkeepsie on main charges thst for a large. Also said price was $21 but I had to ask for receipt. Upon review, she charged $23 as the base amount. Won't be going back.
The food was delicious, the service was ok. The person behind the counter was attentive, but gave me the feeling like he wanted me to hurry up and order my food. He was friendly and he didn't rush me. He was sitting at a table when we came in, on his phone. And I think he wanted to go back to what he was watching on his phone, and he did when he finished taking our order. The place needs updating a fresh coat of paint or something. The other person there was washing the floors...
I love New Nellys but this summer ordering an empenada has turned into a game of empenada roulette... will it be chicken & cheese?? Maybe, if luck is on my side that day. It could just as likely be a cheeseless chicken empenada or even a cheeseless beef empenada! To be served a cheeseless empenada is a major bummer, for me anyways. That said, when I'm given the actual item that I ordered: it's delicious!
