This place is a gem. Come for the pastry, stay for the pastry (and good vibes).

Coming from chicago, my mom and I wanted to explore Astoria a little and I found this cute little breakfast spot. I walked in and the smells it was providing was amazing I could not wait to try the food. I ordered the build your own breakfast sandwich and iced vanilla latte, it was really good. If you’re ever traveling and want to try something different I highly recommend this place.

This is such a cute cafe! It's a little out of the way but worth the trip. There's some seating inside but it can get busy so you might want to think about when you head over.

What drew my here was the layering of again flavors with more traditionally American/European style baked goods and dishes. Their specials change frequently which is fun and their baked goods rotate as well. I had their special which a scallion pancake with eggs. My husband got the omelette off their regular menu which came with the must amazing slices of sourdough bread!

100% would go back.

The folks working there are also super nice. I am constantly seeing them post new things online that I want to try!

The brunch here hits the mark. The pastries are genuinely tasty, and the cookies hold their own. The kitchen is on the smaller side, so if the crowd picks up, expect a bit of a wait, but the food makes it worth staying. The pickles lean heavily toward the sour side, so if you like things a bit softer in balance, leaving them aside works well. Overall, it is a very good spot.

My partner and I found this place and have come back for many weekends in a row even though it’s far away from our home. The food is excellent, I appreciate the Asian influences and quality of ingredients. I would recommend visiting, but be aware that there will be families and children rudely taking over the entire space. There’s no room inside for strollers yet the place is packed with them. Maybe it’s time for stroller parking outside? The parents act like it’s the lobby of their school or something. I was rudely directly sneezed on by one child last visit and couldn’t finish my breakfast. We will not be back as this experience is overwhelming and not worth the effort. Proceed with caution.

Classic American alongside creative Tawainese breakfast. Small cafe maybe 10-15 seats. Quick and friendly service from barista. Drinks and food were tasty. My pineapple pork sandwich was a bit messy and a little spicy. Overall great breakfast! Price was high, but quality costs.

I wish they had more indoor seating options because every time I visited, there weren’t any available tables. Since they’re always packed, there’s always a wait time. The food is good, and they always have some special dishes that are worth trying. I particularly enjoyed the bourbon chicken hush and the French toast.

I came here to get the breakfast egg biscuit sandwich. They took my order and then told me they were not available so they served it on a croissant for me. As soon as that order came out, I seen the biscuits up for sale and the eggs served to me were cold. For this egg sandwich and tea I paid over $24.

I want to like this place, but the wait time is just not worth it. Had to wait almost 40 minutes for an egg and scallion pancake that just had no flavor except for the spicy sauce they put on top. The baked goods are decent though, and the staff is nice enough. The cashier offered me a muffin to apologize for the wait.
I’ve come here multiple times since they’ve opened and unfortunately, they’ve not improved in terms of preparing food in a timely manner. I’d recommend stopping by for a pastry and quick coffee, but not sitting down to eat a proper meal.

Sooo good! The most matcha matcha I’ve ever had. Get there early if you want a seat.

I came in today around 01:40 PM and they have a sign posted saying they are closing at 2 PM for an event. I wait 3 minutes at the counter waiting to be helped after having to yell to get some help then I was told that the grill was off. Deceptive language to say the kitchen is closed because they know if they said that the customers would be upset so we abruptly turned around and without saying another word left to The Grand. This service is so bad here, I gave them a few chances and read other terrible stories on Reddit but this place is just a disaster, I can’t see it lasting more than another year. They close at 3 PM and are only open like 3 days a week, total disaster go somewhere else.

Though I went in too late for their chocolate chip cookie, I left with a couple of amazing Chinese Almond cookire. Bench Flour never disappoints!

I really love Bench Flour and the quality of their food—I come here so often that I honestly wish they were open 7 days a week. That being said, I recently had an experience that left a bad taste in my mouth, not because of the food, but because of the way a situation was handled.

I ordered the strawberry tahini toast (listed at $12 on the menu), with a side of bacon and an orange juice. After tipping, my bill came out to $39, which felt unusually high compared to what I normally spend here. When I asked to see the receipt, I noticed I had been charged $17 for the strawberry tahini toast. The cashier explained that their menu was misprinted—but both the in-person menu and the online menu list it at $12. She apologized and offered me $5 back in cash, which I accepted.

Here’s where things went downhill: when my food came, instead of the strawberry tahini toast I ordered, they gave me the milk bread French toast without saying a word. At no point during the refund was I told that my order was being changed. It felt very unprofessional and backhanded, especially since it was their mistake with the pricing.

I usually love this place, but the way this was handled was really disappointing. Clear communication and accountability would have gone a long way. I hope they take this feedback seriously, because I’d love to keep coming back without experiences like this.
