Rolo’s 853 Onderdonk Ave, Queens Bar & Grill • $$$

“A short day and a half stay in Williamsburg/Brooklyn on the way to Berlin. Rolo’s was certainly my most anticipated spot on this tour after seeing their fantastic Eater video and it certainly didn’t disappoint.Their Double Cheeseburger with the $3 Bacon Addition was the most flavorful and wonderfully textured burger I’ve had in years. The pickled pepper made for an interesting off-beat accompaniment. The polenta bread was simple but delicious. A layer of polenta with olive oil and sea salt, could eat that all day.I also ordered a Strawberry Passionfruit Punsch, which was served in a small goblet. Nice blend of rum, strawberry cordial, passion fruit and lime tiki bitters. There are quite a few more dishes I’d like to try at Rolo’s. Unfortunately for me, Rolo’s in in a different time zone. But I’m glad I got a chance to try it.”

Their Galbi and Jowl is my favorite in all of NY. The Bonchon is always fresh and they are not stingy in what they give. The meat is better than 100% of the KBBQ spots in Ktown and Flushing (I've tried A LOT). It's a little pricier than some of the other spots nearby, and obviously pricier than the AYCE spots - but, for the price it's amazing. My favorite restaurant in all of NYC, KBBQ or otherwise.”

He uses farmer’s market ingredients and is very generous with the portions. Expect to see very colorful and tasty combinations. The core of the menu here is Mexican food with French and Italian notes. The home made pastries and desserts are a solid plus to the dining experience. The wine list has Ben carefully selected and the moderate prices don’t sacrifice the quality. In all, La Flor is one of my favorites in New York City.Vegetarian options: Salads, seasonal veggies.Dietary restrictions: The chef is very knowledgeable and kind and is willing to accommodate special requests.Kid-friendliness: Family place and everyone is welcome.”

Court Square Diner 45-30 23rd St, Queens Diner • $

“We came to eat at this restaurant 4 times during our week-long stay. To begin with, the team is welcoming, available and very helpful. The menu is diverse (including salads, breakfasts, burgers, desserts, etc.). And everything we ate was really very, very good, the quantities very generous and the prices more than reasonable for New York (30 dollars for two people). For us it is the best restaurant in terms of quality/price where we have eaten in New York. The best: it is open 24 hours a day and is located at the bottom of “Court Square” station (line 7)”

“I love Mohamed, Kassim (Owner), Ramzi, Ahmad, Omar#1 (morning grill guy) and Alex. Absolute legends. They had Marlon, David, and host of others helping them, they just get employed and disappear. I love their food service, even my dad loved their hamburgers at one point until they start messing up on that. One of the best bodega stores in South Ozone Park. I used to go here for breakfast and Dinner. Nonetheless, I love this place, but at times it could be too addictive. I did go here in the daytime at one point, the night crew here is all screwed up. The guy (Omar# 2) that cover the register hardly pays attention ever and he look at you stupid like he doesn't know English and keep stepping out when you trying to order or buy something. Night chef (Truck) there is cool, but he half steps most of the time. Also, there's a guy there with a folded-up ear, that's Omar#2 (night register guy). He works at the register at night. He's cool but slow at the same time. Nonetheless, this is my favorite bodega in the history of the South Ozone Park community. Still my go-to store, but lately I don't go there nearly as much.”

“5 stars across the board for Selo!! I already know I will be back! Came here on a date and it was perfect! We ordered the sampler for two as advised by the owner Elvis who came around personally to meet everyone and then to ensure everything was going smoothly. I really appreciated the attention and he asked for feedback which further proved they care a lot about customer service! Service stood out to me because everyone was very nice and attentive and I feel that it's hard to find a restaurant who genuinely cares about people enjoying their time. The food was delicious. I'm glad we went with his recommendation because we got to try everything and the portions were perfect for two people- we even took some home! It's also pretty romantic place and has live music which is lovely to enjoy while at dinner. The meal comes with a free wine bottle but he told us we could substitute for anything else we would like such as different drinks or dessert. I would definitely come back multiple times and bring friends! He said it's a family business and everything is freshly made in the back which you could tell because it was magnificent!”

The place is spacious, with many tables inside and outside. We were served by Alejandra, a very sweet and friendly waitress. I ordered smashed Avocado Benedict, and my friend had Steak and Eggs. My dish was very good. I was not fond of the bread. The avocado was ok but less creamy. It might not have been Hass avocado, but I wasn’t sure. The potato was quite good. My friend said her steak and eggs were excellent. Next time I’ll try that. Great coffee! We had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the establishment, Jonathan. I think his father was there, too. Their dinner menu looks great. Maybe Hubby and I will try dinner here one day. We also saw another waiter named Arturo. He also served our table. It's a nice, pretty place with superb service. “WOW…I never ordered from this Deli before and on April 26th (the food was THAT GOOD I still remember the date)I ordered a Chicken Salad Sandwich (Hero) with a request for Mustard on it. They did not disappoint!!! Not only was there Mustard but having not told them how much they put the PERFECT amount so it didn’t overpower the flavor of the Chicken Salad. The Chicken Salad itself was AWESOME and a generous amount. Topped off with the Lettuce and Tomato it was a dream! THIS is the ONLY place, going forward, that I will order this type of Hero!!! THANK YOU for the experience.”

“I was in a rush since my order from another restaurant was stolen. I arrived from my job site to order so food. I wanted to be in and out of the store given the fact that I was still working. I asked the gentleman at the counter if it was possible to order samosas quick and just leave meaning I’d heat them myself. He told me it would take a couple minutes to make them…that they would be Fresh and Delicious. I sat down and waited. Not long after I was presented with Fresh,Hot deliciousness …You can imagine my surprise. They went out of their way to prepare fresh food and they did so in record time. I ordered 2 samosas and you can see in my order they went above and beyond. I meant to add a review months ago but never got around to it until now. They have so much stuff to choose from. There is no bad dishes that exist on this menu. A must try. 10/10”

We also got the fresh homemade salad and Korean carrot salads which were both good and grew on you as you eat them, so they just get better during the meal.

Meju 5-28 49th Ave, Queens Korean • $$$$

“Chef Hooni Kim succeeded in his vision: dinner at Meju should feel like getting invited as a guest to enjoy a home-cooked meal. Many dishes allude to home cooking yet the flavors clearly tasted professional. This was one of my best meals in the past year. The hwe was perfect. In NYC’s glut of modern Korean tasting menus, Meju has set itself apart by firmly rooting itself in tradition and fermentation.A 3.5-hour dinner here educates not only the palate but the mind as we learn about the history and context of fermentation in Korean cuisine. The experience is much more preferable than waitstaff plopping plates at a table while quickly reciting an ingredients list. The chef encourages friendly conversation in this intimate eight-seat speakeasy. In no time, strangers started talking with each other, though there was no pressure for anyone to do so.A highlight of the meal is getting to taste a few drops of 129-year old soy sauce. It tasted just like how I imagined it to be, mellow and a tad yeasty, though surprisingly devoid of vanilla-like compounds.”
