I have been at El Submarino twice and the food has been amazing. But the beers have not been cold at all…

Literally I wasn’t even done with my drink and the server asked me if I was done and wanted to order more and I told him after we are done we can order more and literally not more than 2 minutes later the other server came and asked if we wanted to order something else because the owner said we was taking too long like basically ya váyanse like bro we are paying and ordering $14 drinks and food that’s mad rude .And then they brought me a drink that I didn’t even order and expected me to pay for it! This left a very bad taste on my mouth tbh . Don’t think I will be coming back due to this .

And when we was about to pay the mesera said “thank you for the review “ that just comes to show their work ethic and how professional they are .

Must try the octopus taco! Named "the craken"
Pictured are the octopus aka pulpo taco "the craken" ; aside "el delicioso taco" which has fried cheese and shrimp. We had the camarones jarandeados, delicious!
Tostadas were very spicy, not for beginners.

Discriminatory against service dogs-

This place has always been a reminder that good Mexican food does exist in NYC. I’ve been a loyal customer and don't mind walking 40 minutes just to get here. A few weeks ago, I called to ask if I could bring my dog since it was freezing outside and was assured they were pet-friendly. I had no issues dining in for lunch with my dog that day.

However, I recently visited for dinner and had a completely different experience. A staff member who seemed to be pissed because he was eating by the bar and got interrupted, greeted me with, “Do you have an ID for the dog?” I explained that my dog is a service animal and informed him that it’s illegal to ask for certification or ID under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He seemed dismissive, stating it had “always been the policy,” despite me dining there with my dog before. When I asked to speak to the manager, he claimed to have spoken to the owner and said that the owner said no. I told him again that he shouldn't be asking for an ID. There are only two questions he could ask me and I asked him to ask me those two questions but it seemed like he didn't know. He seemed like he had already made up his mind, it's either i give him and ID or I leave so I left feeling so frustrated and discriminated upon.

This was disappointing, especially since the restaurant had previously made me feel welcomed. The staff member clearly lacked proper training on ADA regulations, which could lead to serious consequences for the business.

Despite this frustrating encounter, I’ll likely return because of the food and mezcal margaritas. But I won't be going back as often anymore. That one staff member just ruined it for me and my plans that day. That said, I hope the management ensures all employees are trained on ADA compliance to prevent more instances of discrimination against customers like me. I will make sure that people like me who own an actual service dog and have an actual disability don't get discriminated again by this restaurant by sharing my story because of people who simply don't like dogs or just don't follow the law.

The food is very good, very delicious, I ordered an agua chile, the waitress told me that it has shrimp, octopus and fish, I told her that I did not want fish and she told me that she did not replace that portion with anything and that the dish was to be empty, it's the first time I've heard something like that, whatever the customer asks for, the action is not worth the price they charge for aguachile, be careful with those responses from the waitresses

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mariscos El Submarino, and it was an excellent experience. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were vibrant and well-prepared. Most of the dishes lean towards the spicy side, but that’s part of the charm here—bold, authentic flavors that seafood lovers will appreciate.

The service was top-notch, and our waiter, Fernando, truly made the experience memorable. He was attentive and knowledgeable, taking the time to recommend the best dishes suited to our spice tolerance. His suggestions were spot-on, ensuring we could fully enjoy the meal without feeling overwhelmed by the heat.

If you’re looking for fresh seafood with a spicy kick and outstanding service, Mariscos El Submarino is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back!

Ive dine in to many places befored and all are great and this one almost broke the charts for me. Only think i didnt like was that they added the tip in the bill and didnt let me know. And worst part in NYC where tipping is optional but seems to be that the boss dont fallow this rule. Is not the fact that they added the tip but the disrespect that they though i was not going to tip. Heck i was about to tip more then they added but i guess some places like to hustle the customers. Im a server so i know how much servers make per hour so something tells me this place dont fallow the state law. Anyways ill be visiting other place after this location.l experience.

The food is very good, however the service leaves a lot to be desired. Every time I wanted to order I had to wait for them to take their eyes off their phones so that apart from that they took a while to bring a simple beer. They also charged you for the service, one that you never saw.

The food is delicious, it is the closest thing to eating seafood in Mexico ??, I recommend it. The only thing I would have a serious complaint about is the volume of music but the food is delicious ?
I recommend the octopus and fish tacos
The shrimp ceviche, ?

We absolutely love this place! The seafood is out of this world, real authentic Mexican Ceviche, Aguachile, amazing tacos... all tastes homemade with a lot of love and care. Also love the Michelada and beautiful atmosphere. We came back again especially because of the great service by our waiter GREG and were so happy that he served us again. What an amazing place! Our new favorite.

Very bad service from the waiters, I had to stop and ask for a menu because they didn't serve us, it took 45 minutes for them to bring us the food and apart from that, the food was not all cold, especially the tacos, the tortillas were all cold and hard and for To make matters worse, they already put the tip on the receipt. That's very bad that they already put the tip on the receipt. And it's not the first time it's happened to me, that's why I wrote this review and I hope the owners can read this since when they were there I never received cold food.
