I saw great reviews for the chef so I took my parents to dinner after work. It is early January and it’s cold, 34F. The place is empty and the waitress asked us to sit next to the door. I explained that it’s windy and my parents are seniors, can we have one of the tables further away from the door? “No, did you make reservation? You did not make reservation so you can’t seat at those tables. They are all reserved.” Maybe the chef is really good, but we decided to walk out and went to another restaurant that welcomed us warmly.

Freshest sushi in town. Sushi bombs are the bomb. Homemade tiramisu is unreal. My favorite Sushi restaurant. Jenny, family and team are great. You can reserve a table and text your order for fast service. Highly recommend ?

I love this new spot for Mickey's! The decor is fancy but you get the original delicious fresh Sushi. Mickey and Jenny always gets the freshest fish all around. We got Omekase and it did not disappoint.

Not worth $500. We asked if they had Santa Barbara Uni and they said “YES” but they gave us the tiny uni (like the ones you can buy at H-mart) instead, and charged us $75 for 5pcs. Then when we asked them about it and they said its “Hokkaido Uni from Japan.” First of all, they should tell their customers that they don’t have Santa Barbara Uni and ask if we would like Hokkaido Uni instead. But they just served it to us without asking us first. Second, we know what Hokkaido Uni taste like, and it definitely was not it. Ordered a sushi and sashimi combo and they gave us all the low quality fish (tuna, fluke, and even tamago (egg), kani (imitation crabmeat) and a few pcs of Salmon. The yellowtail jalapeno was just sad, a few drops of ponzu sauce and poor quality and presentation. The decor inside was nice but thats about it. Sushi in Queens will never be as good as Manhattan… but I felt that we got ripped off because we did not get what we paid for.

Great sushi but WAYYY too expensive. The price of one roll costs just as much as a roll at Toku which is an extremely high end sushi place… If they weren’t so insanely expensive I would definitely come way more often but unfortunately I can’t justify the price. Please lower your prices they are crazy??

I remember when Mickey's Place was on Bell Blvd and my son was so excited when we found out that it reopened on Franny Lew. We arrived around 8:30pm and figured that would be a good time because they don't close till 9:30. When we walked in we were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't but was seated right away. The young lady told us that the restaurant was CASH ONLY which was fine with us. The restaurant was packed so we saw it as a good sign that the food was still just as good as it was on Bell Blvd. Mickey's Place isn't a big restaurant at all but it's homey looking with pretty light fixtures that my son was admiring. We sat down and was given ONE menu for 3 of us. We sat and waited for a waitress to take our order. Finally I had to flag someone down just to place our order .. sitting for 10 mins with just water and being hungry isn't a pretty sight. We ordered the tempura appetizer, avocado bomb, spicy tuna roll, salmon roll, 2 shrimp tempura rolls, spicy yellowtail roll and the double dragon roll. This is going to sound crazy but I had my son time the whole dinner experience cuz I wanted to see how fast or slow the service was going to be. In my mind if I didn't flag someone down to take our order, how long would they have waited to take our order? The first thing to come out was the tempura appetizer .. 37 mins AFTER we placed our order. The order was not a big portion which was aggravating. There were 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, one carrot and 2 pieces of broccoli that were stuck together. We agreed it was very tasty but my 15 year old son said, 'if you're hungry and have to wait almost 40 mins for food ... anything is delicious'. The next was the avocado bomb ... 57 minutes after we placed our order. My husband and son said we only got it so quickly was because 3 other orders all went out at the same time so the sushi chefs did all this orders at the same time. Not for nothing by waiting an hour for essentially 2 appetizers is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, both the tempura appetizer and the avocado bomb were very good but not worth the wait. When I looked at the time and realized our food wouldn't be coming out till next week, I started yelping restaurants in the neighborhood that were open that we could go to. The young waitress kept on looking over at our table but never did she once tell us that our food was coming or apologizing for the wait. All she did was fill our glasses of water up. Right as I was going to ask for the check .. 1 hour and 15 mins AFTER we initially ordered .. the majority of our food came out. Was the fish fresh ... yes it was. Was it good ... yes. Did it look like it was thrown together quickly ... absolutely. The rolls weren't closed completely and kept on coming apart when I dipped them in my soy sauce. The sushi rice was too warm for my liking. To eat a piece of room temperature fish with warm rice is not my cup of tea. Ten minutes after the majority of the dishes came out the last piece of our order came out, the double dragon roll. At that point I just wanted to go somewhere else to eat or just go home and make instant noodles. Frustrated and obviously disappointed with the service, I asked for the check. The funny part of this review is that it came .. 2 mins after I asked for it!!! You maybe asking yourself, 'why did you even stay that long and not just leave?' ... cuz I kept asking my family the same question. My husband reminded me that we have to give places a chance and this experience at Mickey's Place will be a funny story we can share with others.

Going out of my way for memorable Japanese cuisine might be a new favorite pastime of mine. Everything was prepared to perfection down to the desserts. We ordered a round of 5 rolls and house salad, Kani salad, shrimp tempura, hamachi collar and spring rolls to share. The hamachi collar was tender and fatty. Expertly cooked and a rare treat to have such an authentic preparation. Some folks in our group somehow had room for more so we doubled down on two more rolls while we decided if we wanted dessert. After some tea, we found out our waitress had made the puff pastry on the menu and had to try it. We ordered the tiramisu and the puff. The tiramisu, which I'm sad I had to share, was superb. The puff pastry, was delicious - the texture of the puff and the custard filling were so great and clearly made with a lot of love. As someone who usually is too full for dessert, I'm so glad I got to try them both.

Simply amazing! Every dish was prepared exquisitely and to order. Mickey's Place serves up the best Japanese cuisine. I really felt at home, everyone was so nice. Very inviting and comfortable place to bring the whole family. Get there when they open, seating fills up fast.

They're back! Mickey, Jennifer and team have moved from their Bell Blvd. location (rent & landlord drama I hear.) The quality of fish is impeccable - from the uni, the botan ebi (large shrimp; don't forget to ask to get the fried shrimp heads!!!), scallops and whatever else Mickey gets. It's clear that he takes pride and selects only the freshest fish. Rolls are great but not crazy combos like at other places - some are large and may cause sticker shock. The cooked items are also fantastic and if you call ahead, they may be more accommodating with off-menu items like soba noodles with shrimp tempura or yellowtail collar. Desserts are now a big hit with some cream puffs that rival Beard Papa's, banana pudding pie, plus let's not forget the tempura oreos. The new space is bright and pretty with blond woods. Service is super friendly. We've met so many other long time patrons who've followed them from their original Forest Hills location in the 90s.Only downsides are finding street parking and they're only open Fri-Sun 5-9pm.

This restaurant is my new go to Japanese restaurant for the queens/bayside/auburndale area. The staff is so friendly and they won't rush you. It is a little pricier than your average sushi joint but the quality of the fish is impeccable. It's amazing how fresh everything is and you can see the small touches of love they put into everything. I'd come back here just for the staff but the food is also delicious. A great spot for a date night or intimate gathering with loved ones. It is a small restaurant so be sure to call ahead of time to make reservations or see if seating is available.
