The staff and ambiance were very nice. However the food was below subpar. The rice was dry and I ordered a veggie dish and the vegetables were still cold and I believe that were frozen and not fresh. My friends didn't care for their food either.
We ordered the fried cauliflower to start, and then salmon over salad and oxtail and peas and rice. The mango mojito mocktail and pina colada were also delicious. We also had cake for dessert, which was also yummy. The service was very fast. When we came here last year, there weren't many people and the service was somehow very slow, but this time around, our food came out very quickly. It was also cooked very well. We came on a Thursday, and they had someone playing the steelpan to contemporary music, like Whitney Houston and Tyla. I would have preferred more calypso and soca, but it was still a great vibe. Our server was also very attentive and nice. Great service overall and vibe, and the prices weren't bad at all. Would definitely recommend.
What started out on a wet dreary, Saturday afternoon birthday celebration turned into a high vibe and energetic party atmosphere! From the moment we sat down to when we left, We were smiling, laughing, grinning, and even dancing in our seats and in the corner. We ordered one crab cakes and one codfish fritters as appetizers for five ladies . It obviously was not enough, but it prepped our appetites for the main course; Oxtails with rice and peas, curry, chicken, stew, chicken, ackee and salt fish and the escovitch fish were all amazing. The DJ was spectacular. He played music through the decades that we could all relate to including a few Island pieces that hit close to home! We left the restaurant exhausted with full bellies!
The only part of the meal I enjoyed was my cocktail (One Love Colada). I've had much better coconut shrimp and the grilled chicken in the Jazzy Pasta was dry. I was going to order something to bring home. After eating I didn't dare risk being disappointed again. The decor was nice, the servers were very pleasant and the live music was great.
My family’s experience at Jasmine’s last night was a classic case of everything happens for a reason and Black businesses not respecting the Black dollar. We had a 7 p.m. reservation for 9 for my bonus mom’s birthday. When my SIL arrived at 6:45 p.m., the manager, a male wearing a Celine T-shirt, told her that if we weren’t there by 7:10, we would forfeit our table. That was STRIKE 1, because he rudely started admonishing her before we were even late. I suspect that when he saw her race there was an assumption we’d be late. Also, the website says there’s a 15-minute grace period, like most NYC establishments, not a 10-minute one. My bonus mom and I arrived at 7 p.m. exactly, while my dad and sister parked our vehicle literally feet away. They arrived at 7:05 p.m. exactly, which was still within the 15-minute grace period. We were still waiting for four others from our party who were parking also, but the manager continued to rudely tell us we couldn’t be seated. The rudeness was STRIKE 2 because there’s a polite way of interacting with potential patrons and a wrong way. Mr. Celine T-shirt chose the latter. STRIKE 3: Now, Jasmine’s is EXTREMELY small; it’s housed on the ground floor of a classic NYC townhouse, so it’s rather narrow. It made absolutely no sense not to seat a party of 5 while we awaited the arrival of the last four, who ultimately arrived by 7:10, mind you. There was a clear bottleneck of people as we were made to stand in the narrowest part of the restaurant and had to move each time a patron or staff needed to pass. This not only affected us, but also the actual diners who were sitting at high tables and the bar. The manager came over to tell us at 7:07 p.m. that our party had 3 minutes to arrive. Again, this was incorrect according to the website. My sister attempted to explain that the rest of the party was minutes away and asked if we could be seated at that time. Mr. Celine T-shirt’s “compromise” was to seat the 5 of us, which would activate the 1.5 hours of dining time, and the other four in our party would have to eat within the remaining time and might not even be sat with us, even though the table was already set up for 9. As my sister was speaking with the manager, my dad politely attempted to reason with him also, but Mr. Celine T-shirt turned to my father and rudely said he wasn’t talking to him and was speaking to my sister. He also kept mentioning that the restaurant had reservations for two other large parties later in the evening. This wasn’t said to prove that he runs a well-oiled machine that can’t have a kink in it. Instead, it was said to let us know that Jasmine’s doesn’t need our patronage. That was STRIKE 4. By the way, the rest of our party arrived during this time, and it was 7:10 p.m. In addition, no one else was waiting for a table. We’re still trying to process how Jasmine’s was going to serve a party of 9 rounds of cocktails, appetizers, entrees, dessert, and after-dinner coffee or cocktails within a timeframe of 1.5 hours, but we’ll never know because WE LEFT! We went to SWING 46 instead because host Wolfgang had spoken to my brothers as they walked past on the way to Jasmine’s. We had a LOVELY time! The food was delicious; the libations were potent yet smooth; AND Wolfgang danced with my bonus mom, my sister, and I after our meal as a live jazz band played. Swing 46 definitely made up for the horrible experience at Jasmine’s. So in the end, everything happens for a reason, and we paid our nearly $1,000 bill and tipped more than appropriately for a splendid evening. It’s too bad these reviews require us to give at least one star because Jasmine’s deserves ZERO. Well, I guess the one star can go to the bartender who asked if my nephew could have a candy and then played a quick guessing game with him in which he discovered the candy. Yeah, that was the one bright spot. To quote Dr. Maya Angelou, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
ZERO STAR RATING! First of all, it’s extremely small and tight in this establishment. My family and I came here to celebrate my mother’s birthday. The reservation was for 7pm for 9 people. This was our FIRST time here! My sister-in-law arrived around 6:45pm. She had a drink at the bar and a male manager (whoever he is) was already telling my sister that if we were not there by 7:10pm, they were giving our table away. Mind you, the grace period was 15 mins, not 10 mins, according to the website. Some of us arrived at 7:05pm and 7:10pm. We were waiting for 3 more people to walk in, who were parking in the lot, a few feet away. Six of us were inside the restaurant, including my two-year old son, and they refused to seat us. While in the restaurant, the same male manager (whoever he is) was extremely RUDE to us in telling us that the remainder of the family had 3 mins left to arrive or he was giving our table away. As I was explaining to him that my family was close by and we are here to spend money and eat, this male individual continued to tell us that he could not hold the table any longer. Mind you, there were no customers waiting but he persisted to say there was a large party after us. Now because the establishment is small and narrow, it would have made sense to seat us to avoid disrupting customers passing to leave and those sitting at the bar or at high tables to eat. But no! This male individual continued telling me that he could seat the six of us but the additional 3 family members could not sit with us. While talking to me, my father tried talking to this male and male individual turned to my father and said, “I’m not talking to you, I’m talking to her” (referring to me). At this point, we were all DISGUSTED, OUTRAGED, and UNHAPPY with this male’s behavior and service! My parents were LIVID and we left without spending a dime! As a Caribbean family ourselves, experiences like this is why it is hard to support BLACK BUSINESS because had we been a Caucasian group, I’m pretty sure this would not have happened! We most definitely will NOT be returning to this establishment!
Although Jasmine's sounded appealing based on the reviews and the menu, my husband and I were very disappointed in our dinner there. I had the coconut shrimp and crab cake appetizers, and my husband had the jerk chicken platter. The jerk chicken was OK but nothing special, and they served it with a different rice than shown on the menu. The shrimp were very tough (difficult to even cut with a knife), and neither the shrimp nor the crab cake had much flavor. The cocktails (in my case a virgin pina colada) were good, but that's hardly enough to justify going back there. The decor of the restaurant is cute, but the noise level was terrible, with very loud music making it almost impossible to talk to each other. And even though the restaurant wasn't full, the noise from other tables was also too much (not sure if that was due to lack of soundproofing in the design) The initial server was not friendly, and she did not come back to check on us even once during the meal. (If she had, we would have told her the problem with the shrimp and the wrong rice being served with the jerk chicken.) A different server came at the end to ask if we wanted dessert and to bring the check, and this one was friendly. We would not go back or recommend this restaurant.
It feels like you entered into a home in the Caribbean from the entrance to the decor and the service and food was top notch. My favorite was the sweet pan music coming from the steel pan in the front of the restaurant. The guy is extremely talented! I can't wait to return!
This is probably some of the best food I've ever had in my life. Everything was fresh, cooked to perfection, and was so incredibly flavorful. I was taking my fresh-off-the-plane Jamaican boyfriend here for his birthday and he loved all of his food as well (which is saying something as he's a picky chef). The drinks were not very good, unfortunately. I had to send one back because it tasted so bad, but the replacement drink wasn't much better. The space is very pretty and the vibe was wonderful, although I found the music to be just a tad too loud for an intimate dinner in such a small venue. Service was excellent - prompt, attentive, and friendly. I would definitely return when I am back in NYC.
I really wanted to like this restaurant. I had just flown in from Atlanta to attend the US Open. I researched Caribbean restaurants (as these restaurants generally offer great veggie options), read the reviews, and decided to give this restaurant a try. My appetizer was the veggie empanadas—there was a strand of hair on my small plate. I also ordered the One Love Colada—it had a great taste but was watered down. My main entree was the veggie w/rice in coconut sauce—the veggies were slightly overcooked, but overall, the taste was good. I also had a side of the greens (callaloo)—it was excellent. Finally, I had the carrot cake for dessert—it was just okay. The servers were very friendly. I'm sure most people would order one of the popular meat entrees this restaurant is known for. But if you're a vegetarian, this may not be the restaurant for you.

My bf & I celebrated our 1st anniversary there; couldn't have chose a better place to celebrate our love. Everything gets a perfect score!!! The drinks are to die for!!! The food is finger liking good!!
We had the best time tonight. I was surprised by how amazing the food was and so was my mom because she is very picky about her food. 10/10 experience. Great vibes. Dj was also great. I loved it. We will be coming back.
I've been to this restaurant before back in 2021 and it was phenomenal and I've been dying to go back. I decided to come here with my mom because I kept telling her about it and honestly I was a little disappointed. I ordered the oxtails which was 37$ and I mostly got bones no meat. My drinks & bread pudding was delicious. As well as the chicken empanadas. I just wish my oxtails were better because they weren't cheap. I definitely would try this place again because the first time I went I had such amazing food and service.
Took my aunt's there for 1st time and we all had to get those oxtails that just fall off the bone. The food, decor, service & price were just right. Would definitely recommend & want to go back on Thurs. evening to hear the live steelband. Keep up the excellent service!!!
This was my second time coming. I appreciate the fact that they accommodated our party that oscillated between 8 and 10. The food is delicious and my out of town guests really enjoyed it. Favorites were the oxtails, curried shrimp and the sorrel.
