We had our anniversary dinner at Ruta Oaxaca on a Monday evening. I made a reservation, which turned out to be unnecessary as we were the only diners in the dining room; there were a few others dining at the bar (we found out later why). The food was excellent - very creative, tasty, with generous portions. We each had the mixed tacos, which were really good, with lots of choices. We also had the plantains, which were very tasty. Their homemade salsa, which was served with chips, was really delicious. Our server was attentive and helpful - but a little too much, as he was constantly trying to upsell us on drinks, guac, etc. He did make sure we had everything we needed, as did the young women who brought out the food. The negatives: 1. There was a bait-and-switch going on as the website features a prix fixe with appetizer, main, and dessert, but when we asked for it at the restaurant, we were told that was only available at the Long Island locations (two on Long Island, one in Astoria, where we went, one in Brooklyn). We also asked about the advertised Happy Hour drinks specials, but again, we were told we could only have those if we sat at the bar. Since it was our anniversary, we wanted to sit at a table, so we paid $15 pp for sangria vs. the happy hour $9. 2. The server sat us way in the back, which was not terrible, but not particularly nice. The place was totally emptry, so we could have been seated by the windows, with a view out to Broadway, but the server clearly wanted to service an area that was easy for him. So, while we were at a table vs. the bar, it was certainly nothing special. 3. Given the above specials that were not offered to us, even when we asked, and the fact that we were not seated in a particularly nice place for our anniversary, we were not super impressed. We paid over $50 pp for 3 tacos, a side of plantains, and two sangrias. Not a good value for the money and experience.
I have a stomachache. I will not repeat

Was on broadway with my husband and a friend and just walked in on a wim for a quick drink...ended up staying a good while! Interior of the place is super cute yet cozy. Sat at the bar and michael our bartender was very friendly and personable..made awesome cocktails! As a tequila lover myself they have a fantastic tequila/mezcal selection! Will be back very soon to dine in.

We went to Ruta Oaxaca on a Taco Tuesday afternoon and everything was exceptional! The food is absolutely authentic and reminded me of my visits to Mexico. The servers were wonderful. I highly recommend!

We pass by this place often and finally gave it a try. Did not disappoint! Their guacamole is OUTSTANDING! Chunky guac with tons of veggies - it was so so tasty. Been dreaming about it since.
Food: Really delicious. The standout was the guacamole and chips. The mains were good and would definitely get again, but neither had a big wow factor (at least not like the guac had). The tacos were good, larger than expected, but slightly dry. The quesadillas were smaller than expected but very tasty. It also came with rice and beans.
Drinks: Got the berry margarita and was tasty.
Service: Pretty good. Our waiter was attentive and refilled our waters often. Our order was taken within reasonable time and food wait wasn’t noticeably long.
Ambiance: Darker setting, good for dates. Music was a bit loud but overall pretty good place!

The food here is delicious. We got the birra tacos and carne asada enchiladas. Both had amazing and authentic flavors. My hubby got the Oaxaca old fashioned. It not only tasted great but the presentation of it was beautiful. We will be back to try more!

Quality of food has gone down. When Ruta first opened, the food and service were elevated. Since they’ve opened up other locations, seems they standardized food to be just like any other Mexican place. Eh. Won’t go back.

The service was terrible, waited 30 minutes just for the server to take our drinks order. Drinks came in 20-30 minutes after that and the guy finally took our orders. An hour later the appetizers and sides came. 30m - an hour after that we got our food. The atmosphere was okay and the server was not so welcoming. The next day, I vomited from the food and was sick all day. Save your money and go somewhere else!

They don't open until 12 on Saturday's but online it says 11 and allows you to make reservations for prior to 12
It was a good experience to finally visit the first Ruta Oaxaca since I've visited all, but my favorite is still the one of all would be the location in Patchogue because of the staff. The food was the same authenticity at all locations. The chips and salsa were okay, but the Patchogue roasted tomato option is top tier. If you are going to drive, it will be difficult. It is best to use Uber or take the train...it is a busy restaurant filled location. Sorry for not having images of the food. It was good and I wanted to dig in but if you check my other reviews, you dish presentation are the same.

I ordered taco campechano, taco carne asada and taco yukatan (slow braise pork) the meat portions were big! The spice level were enough to make it tasty.
