It’s ok! I think prices should match the quality and quantity! Special the guacamole. Not the best, not enough and really expensive! Service 10/10 ☺️

Great but expensive
Terrible service, I arrived at 8:50 and they didn't want to serve me because they said the kitchen closed!! I don't understand if they have a sign at the entrance that says they close at 10 🤔

Good food ruined by pushy and manipulative staff. From the moment I walk in the staff is trying to upsell, constantly badgering us to order more. Got a side of rice and beans (small and plain). Waiter failed to mention that would cost me $12, almost as much as my entree. Overall unpleasant dining experience
We visited this place on a Friday night at 7:30. The food arrived quicker than we anticipated, but once the restaurant got busy, it was a bit challenging for the staff to attend to us. However, if you visit during a less crowded time, I’m sure everything will be smooth sailing. The food was passable, but we didn’t try anything particularly memorable. Nevertheless, it could be a decent spot for a casual meal.

The employees were nice, but the food, dessert, and drinks were not worth the price at all. The wait times were also unfathomably long.
Had a terrible experience. Bad service, ws spoken to for my order and never again. Food was old, fish smelled, guacamole was all fillers and barley avo (they used to have the best guacamole around). Meat was all grisly. I used to love this place. I will never go again. Poor quality and more expensive = not worth it.

Terrible experience with the bartender.
It pains me to write this review, as I’ve been a loyal local patron of this restaurant since it first opened. Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worse.
We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was nearly empty—only one other couple was seated at the bar. Despite this, the service was terrible. Our second server appeared to be having a bad day, carelessly dropped off our food, and didn’t bother to ask if we needed more drinks or water, they didn’t check on for like 30mins and they were empty. We ended up going next door for drinks instead. A word of advice to some of the servers not ALL: if you’re too cool to serve people, DONT become a server.
As for the food, the quality has declined noticeably. We ordered pastor tacos, and the meat was tough and chewy. We also tried the ceviche, but the fish was chewy and had a strong, unpleasant smell, as if it wasn’t fresh.
It’s disappointing to see this once-great restaurant fall short in both service and food quality.
If you want a real good service and similar atmosphere of elevated cuisine, go to MAYAHUEL restaurant on 34th Ave between 32st &31.
Or for really good Mexican authentic tacos go NENES taqueria down the street on broadway.
Either way will be not coming back if there are other options around them.

Restaurantji Recommends
Overall okay, overpriced in my opinion. We ordered a guacamole for over $15 and the quantity is equivalent to a $5 guac in chipotle. Also they bring you just 2-3 tortillas when you order a $20 cheese plate.

I really enjoyed the drinks and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant along with the music choice. Very authentic. The food was good; however, it did seem to have a twist. While adventurous palates will be delighted, those seeking traditional tastes might want to explore other options, so keep that in mind ! :)

You ever try a place early on that's so good you don't want to share the secret? That's this spot for me. The Costillas Istmeñas which are tender ribs with their house made mole based sauce are like no other. The service is spectacular and it shows why when some of the wait staff have worked for the family behind the business for the better part of a decade.
Story here is that the head chef has traveled from North to South Mexico to build his culinary experience and form unique dishes that are a blend of flavors you may have never tried before if you're just accustomed to the typical Americanized, Mexican food.
Definitely worth a stop and ask for their recommendations based upon your pallette!

Simply extraordinary! Charming mexican restaurant focused on oaxacan gastronomy. Sofia was a very friendly and attentive waitress. Best juicy chicken breast in mole sauce. The detail on every dish worths the price. The cocktail tree special was the perfect pairing for our dinner. I will be back with friends!

*BIT OF A LETDOWN*
I used to love Ruta when it first opened – it was one of my favorite spots in the area. Unfortunately, my recent visit was a major letdown. While the dishes still look vibrant, the taste isn’t what it used to be. The menu has changed a lot, too, now focusing more on simpler, Americanized dishes like quesadillas and tacos that don’t stand out. To top it off, the prices are higher than I’m comfortable with for what you’re getting.
On a positive note, their cocktails and mezcal selection are fantastic. I’d recommend stopping by for happy hour, but for food, I’d suggest checking out Mayahuel nearby for better flavors and prices.
Vegetarian options: Some options are vegetarian but would check if they have dairy before requesting some dishes.
