I ate here yesterday. Got 1 chicken samosa and one cup of tea. Service was quick and only cost $3. But after I ate the food, my stomach was hurting me all night. I was running to the bathroom all night. Please make the food fresh.

We recently revisited Shahi Darbar in Jackson Heights, a spot that used to be known for its all-you-can-eat buffet with an impressive variety of dishes. On arrival, we realized the restaurant has since changed its format, it’s no longer a buffet, but rather a steam-table style eatery offering ready-to-serve dishes. One side features meat options, another has vegetarian curries and rice, and the third displays their traditional Indian sweets.
The atmosphere was casual and family-oriented, with several families dining in, possibly due to the holiday. Seating was comfortable enough for a quick meal, and the service was straightforward: you order at the counter, take a seat, and your food is brought to your table once it’s warmed up. Most items are reheated, which seems typical for this kind of setup in the neighborhood.
We tried a few items, beef and chicken kababs, along with a couple of vegetable dishes and garlic naan. The portions come in small or large sizes, which is convenient if you want to sample a few different things.
The food arrived quickly, but overall, the flavors were average. The chicken kabab was decent though not memorable, while the beef didn’t quite match our taste. Everything seemed freshly reheated but lacked the depth and spice balance we usually expect from this type of cuisine.
That said, the restaurant may cater to a different regional Indian palate, perhaps more traditional to a specific area, so it might appeal to others even if it wasn’t quite to our liking.
In short, Shahi Darbar offers a clean, family-friendly setting and quick service, but the food is more ready-to-eat convenience than freshly prepared dining. It’s not a bad place by any means, just not one we’d personally rush back to.
Pros: Family-friendly, quick service, affordable portions.
Cons: Reheated dishes, average flavor, no longer buffet-style.

I had a fantastic experience at Shahi Darbar in Jackson Heights. Their menu boasts genuine Mughal‑inspired classics, and their goat curry was rich without being greasy—just what you want in a hearty curry. Also, the Kathi roll was satisfyingly fresh and well-seasoned. The restaurant’s warm, welcoming vibe made it feel everything but pedestrian. A must-try for anyone craving authentic Halal cuisine.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Shahi Darbar! Our waiter, Harpreet, gave us excellent customer service—attentive, friendly, and always with a smile.
We ordered Chole Bhature, Amritsari Kulcha, and Veg Raita, and the flavors were truly authentic—just like in Punjab. Every bite brought back memories of home. My husband also tried the Aam Panna, and he said it tasted exactly like the ones back home.
Highly recommend this place for anyone craving genuine Punjabi flavors and warm hospitality. We will definitely be coming back!

hello everyone so I just visited Shahid Darbar two days ago I bought a Samosa from there and it was too good but the amount of dishes were too low and it’s not exact Pakistani restaurant. It’s kind of Indian or Bengali atmosphere was not clean and there is no such a sitting space barely 2 or three table for two person only so if you go, if you want to go with your family, I will not recommend it the opposite days a restaurant called Dera that will be good though.

AVOID AVOID AVOID! I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan. Very simple order. No chicken. No rice. Burnt Naan. Just cold sauce, and burnt naan. What are we doing here!? Do better or shut the place down! Embarrassing excuse for ‘authentic’ Indian food.

Friendly people. Number of food inadequate
The food was stale —I expected quality Indian food but received cardboard with garam masala & curry leaves. Adding to the frustration, the delivery driver left my order on the floor of my hallway. Even if bagged, it’s incredibly disrespectful and unhygienic. Simply hanging it on the door handle would have shown basic consideration. I hope the eatery rethinks its standards for both service and food quality.

Shahi Darbar has great low cost snack dishes and their dishes are usually full of flavor. They make a great chicken samosa, mughlai paratha, kathi roll, and the beef shawarma are all great value and delicious. The marinated chicken and the lamb chops are also very very well flavored and well cooked, but a little expensive. Also the beans are tasty and they make a mean specialty burger. All around worth checking out their food. We usually get takeout.
