It’s ok, maybe good for an American or other nationality who don’t know better, I dislike how much they are not keeping the authenticity of our food. The doubles are famous staple of Trinidad. Every other country keeps the originality of their food. We want to change for everyone.If you want doubles with shrimp or chicken buy a damn roti. I have had better.

I came across Tamarind Island's Insta page and it had me drooling so I knew I had to try it. Arriving on a Saturday afternoon, it was bustling and people were in and out. There are a few tables to eat at as well as a couple of seats by the window. I can't say I ever had Trinidadian food before, but the one thing I knew I had to get was the doubles with chickpeas, because that's what first pulled me in. It was fantastic. I'm not sure I ever had chickpeas so flavorful and yummy. The bread was light and pillowy. Also tried a roti with chicken curry. The roti itself was a large portion served along side a plate of chicken curry with some potato. Another wonderful delight. The chicken was tender and the flavors, just so good. I had to stop myself from ordering more, but I am looking forward to going back for more doubles and some other dishes to try.

I heard great reviews of this place and decided to go and grab a quick lunch. I came in and there was only 1 person in line ahead of me. As the gentleman was ringing up another customer a women walks on and begins to pick up items near the register. Instead of directing the last to the fact that there was a line the gentleman cashes her out before the people standing in line waiting patiently. She then proceeds to ask for other items and at this point I am annoyed with the fact that my time is just as valuable as anyone else's. Normally I have a ton of patience with things like this and I do understand that sometimes you just need to pick up something fast that doesn't require anything to be served but when she began asking for other things beside the prepackaged item she had in hand to pay for instead of standing in line like everyone else, it really was upsetting. I left with patronizing this establishment because everyone's time needs to be taken into consideration and the way that the young man handled the situation was seriously unprofessional. I won't even start with the fact that I wasn't greeted upon walking into the establishment that wasn't crowded at all.

I am not here to bring down any body business at all but this place needs better management and a lot more communication with each other. I would call and place my order 20mins before going into store, they will take it and when I arrive I will have to wait another 20min for them to tell me they do not have anymore of the food I called for 40mins ago and they took down. They need someone at the register to handle the register alone and atleast 2-3 more person to serve and take orders.

I know some people are gonna be mad but I honestly like this place better than Trinciti. When I go to Trini restaurants I get doubles, pholourie, and bake & saltfish. All three were excellent from this place and had me craving more.

For along time I wanted to try Tamarind Island. My husband and I tried it on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered a regular double, double with curry goat, double with veggies and a curry goat roti. Customer service was amazing. I talked to the owner for awhile. He was so nice I told him I follow him on IG. The doubles were amazing nice and spicy(we ordered it that way). The curry goat was tender and flavorful. We loved the roti too. The Tamarind sauce was so delicious. This is definitely going to be my go to spot.

Service was 5 stars. Ambiance was cool. It's basically a takeout spot with tables. It was clean and appeared well kept. I'll give the food a 3.5. The doubles were tasty. Jerk chicken lacked flavor, and the rice that comes with it was mushy, greasy and bland. The shrimp rice came with mini baby shrimp smothered in sauce--wasn't a fan of taste or presentation. Curry goat was flavorful--no complaints.

Doubles were amazing! But service is absolutely terrible. There were 5 people in front of me, and I waited over 30 mins to be seen, not exaggerating, I stopped counting at the half an hour mark. Many customers on line left. Servers saw line forming till door, but just kept idling. Wiping down constantly (which is great but not when there's only 1-2 servers and there was nothing to wipe) and disappearing in the back. At one point, there was no one in the front for about 10 mins. Tamarind island can be a hit but they need better/quicker servers. People who actually wants to work. One server disappeared for about 15'mins only to come back with one roti in hand. One roti. Terrible service would be the reason I don't come back, but I hope this can get fixed so I can enjoy more of their food!

I called this place and made an order in the morning, told them what time I would be there. When I went, the order was not ready. The lady asked me if I still wanted the order. LIKE REALLY!!! While waiting, a guy comes out of the kitchen heading for the exit and mockingly said, "yall make de lady food...she mad" HOW UNPROFESSIONAL !!! On another occasion, the same thing happened. Placed an order and had to wait ! The whole idea of placing an order is to just walk in and pick up.
