Best kare-kare you’ll ever have in NYC. We tried kare-kare in every single Filipino restaurant in Woodside. This is the best one you can get and nothing comes close.

Vegetarian options: Beware of vegetable dishes. Filipinos put either shrimp paste or fish sauce in their veggie dishes. Not truly vegetarian

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tyang Gelay, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. As soon as you step inside, you're greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy ambiance that instantly makes you feel at home.

The menu offers a delightful variety of traditional Filipino dishes, each packed with authentic flavors. I started with the lumpia (Filipino spring rolls), which were crispy on the outside and bursting with savory goodness inside. The adobo, a classic Filipino dish, was perfectly seasoned—tender, flavorful, and just the right balance of tangy and savory.

One of the highlights was the sinigang, a sour tamarind soup that was both refreshing and comforting, with a perfect blend of tartness and spices. The lechon kawali was another standout, with its crispy skin and tender meat, served with a dipping sauce that elevated the dish to another level.

The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable, making it great value for money. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, happily guiding us through the menu and offering excellent recommendations.

To top it all off, we ended the meal with halo-halo, a popular Filipino dessert that’s as fun to eat as it is delicious. The layers of sweet ingredients, shaved ice, and creamy leche flan made for a perfect ending to a fantastic meal.

Overall, Tyang Gelay is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the rich and diverse flavors of Filipino cuisine. Whether you're a Filipino food enthusiast or a first-timer, this restaurant will leave you wanting more. Highly recommended!

Tyang Gelay’s is worth the trek from Manhattan if you’re craving traditional Filipino home cooking. The food is that good. (plus you don’t pay Manhattan prices). The ginataang kalabasa at sitaw ($13.50 plus tax) was a standout dish, even if the sitaw has been replaced with green beans). The lechon kawali and pork sisig were delicious. With the warm Filipino hospitality and a mostly Filipino clientele, the restaurant makes you feel like you’re in the Philippines.

In a place called Little Manila in Queens, NY this is one of THE places to dine in. Service is fast and efficient. The restaurant is full of friendly Filipinos both servers and diners. The ambiance mirrors the feel of being in Manila by the LRT! I love, love, love it! FOOD IS AMAZING! Ang sarap, grabe!

Very disappointed with the food, had such expectations with this place as it was recommended by a relative. Ordered the breakfast overload to go, and had to wait half an hour. I would not mind the long wait if the food was freshly cooked. But to be served with dried up bangus and longganisa that seems to be reheated over and over is unacceptable considering the price they were charging, compared to other places around the area. They didn’t even include utensils and napkin on the take out order. I hope my criticism would help them improve their service and food quality.
