Not sure if they gave me chicken/ rice that had been sitting out for a while but the little chicken they did have gave me terrible food poisoning. They also had very little food there to be an hour before they closed.

I wanted to take my girlfriend for an Hispanic culinary experience in Rochester. Mondays are ALWAYS a bad day to this, however, because many of the “go to” restaurants are closed (Just like the 1970s song by the Carpenters, “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down”). That being said, I found an interesting seeming place called D’Mangu, a Dominican-style restaurant with pictures showing their food plated on real plates (somewhat of a requirement when I’m trying to impress someone). I knew the food was going to be served “buffet” style and I was good with that as there would be no wait (a plus if I have the day planned out). There was plenty of parking as my car was the only one in the small lot, and it was off the street which was also good. The establishment actually looked like it was inside a home and the entrance threw me off for a second because it was actually located on the side of the building and not the front of it. My girlfriend was excited because when she heard the name D’Mangu, she wanted to try out their Mangu.

It was definitely a disappointment when we found out that Mangu was not served at a place called D’Mangu. My girlfriend decided to have the braised pork with white rice and beans, and I opted for the peril with yellow rice and beans. While the meat was tender and not dry, it didn’t really have that Umami that I was expecting. It also wasn’t served on plates but, rather, clam shells for take-out style. We had both ordered the small portion which seems enough to satisfy our appetites, but it was very messy and, no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t keep from making a mess on the table. Thankfully, my date was more interested in making conversation than what was happening at the restaurant.

Overall, the experience was about average, neither good nor bad. I wouldn’t necessarily try this particular restaurant again but I can say that I would try the name brand at the other location on Portland before dismissing it altogether. It’s decent for food on the fly and (fortunately or unfortunately?) there was no waiting line to obtain a meal.

This place is a GEM. The prices are amazing and the portions are even better. Everytime I eat here I’m satisfied with my belly, pockets, and experience. It’s always SO CLEAN, the food is great, and they price for it keeps you wishing they never/ close! 100/10

This is my second time trying this place. I did NOT enjoy my food or the service my first time, but I believe we all have bad days and I wanted to give them a second chance. Nope! I should have passed right by and went to Sobrinos! The person behind the counter clearly doesn’t want to be there! She tossed my food in the container so fast and SLOPPY that she didn’t listen to my order. The rice was crunchy and tasteless and the meat was so dry and hard I thought I would chip a tooth! This place is ridiculous and should just close down permanently! Go to Sobrinos on Clinton & Norton
.They Got You!! About to call and request a refund.

Some of the food is okay my granddaughter loves the spot but they could take more time and properly clean the meats on 2 too many occasions we have found hairs on our meat and some times the white rice is to crunchy so we don’t order it anymore last but not least change the time because some of us do work and it be after 5pm when we can make it there and they closed buy 6 when it says closed at 7pm ?

No posted menu/prices, no food on display except white rice, I was told stew pork steak and bake chicken was available but it wasn’t on display. Ordered the bake chicken and white rice and beans just as I suspected the chicken was dried out stale and hard as a brick the rice had hard pieces of rice (like the bottom of the pot) never again this is the second time I was disappointed with the food here! I spent $16 on trash

The food and atmosphere was good. But charging an automatic gratuity for two people!? I was actually going to give them more money, but not after that. What a terrible policy lol. Don't go here.
