Second time coming. First time the octopus salad was really good. This time the octopus had shrunk in size, came in pieces, increased in burntness, and came in an awkwardly sized bowl. The actual salad part was also a letdown. My husband’s beetroot salad was nothing special but good.
The $1 oysters are a good deal, and we got some good ones the first round although quite a number were poorly shucked and had pieces of shell in the flesh— understandable given the demand. The real disappointment was the second order of oysters, where they switched the ones I wanted with the ones I liked the least. But it was busy & we were in a hurry so down they went. The venison we had was tender and tasty, but plum sauce and the accompaniments were not good. For dessert, the pumpkin spice creme brulee was tasty while the plum torte was ok (not enough plum) but good cinnamon ice cream. Service was generally good, our waitress was friendly and nice.

Lento is one of my favorite restaurants. True farm to table food. The whole staff is very knowledgeable and the chef is top notch. You won't be dissapointed. The menu changes often. Best selection of oysters to.
Kid-friendliness: Upscale kid friendly. Not a place where Littles would be free to roam around.
Wheelchair accessibility: Yes wheel chair ramp to restaurant

Our server was Gabriella M and she was easily one of the, to if not the best, servers we’ve ever had. The food, the service, and even the atmosphere were all top notch. Pretty much everything here is made from scratch with ingredients from local farms and the menu is small. I can’t believe I didn’t find this gem sooner, it is definitely one of the best restaurants in Rochester.

We went to Lento due to its appearance in the February 21, 2024 article “These Rochester restaurants deserved to make the USA TODAY Restaurants of the Year List” in the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. We were disappointed in the dinner service and half of the dishes, which with tax and tip was $100. While the cocktail (Down by the Bay) and mocktail (Refresh Button) were nice, bread service was not. It was a dense “focaccia” that looked to be made of whole wheat. I’m not sure of its taste because it was supersaturated with oil. Which you think would make it easy to tear apart – no, a knife had to be used. The accompanying dish of oil, and house butter, were superfluous. The place did seem not seem busy, and we were took our time with our drinks and bread, but after a while we stopped a passing runner and requested our server come to take our dinner order of beet salad, traditional poutine, fried calamari, and a glass of Red Tail Chardonnay. For two people, we don’t eat a lot. The fried calamari was a huge disappointment. Maybe it’s impossible to make deep fried calamari exciting, but I expected more from, per the article “one of the very few chefs in town to be nominated for a prestigious James Beard award.” In summary, the drinks were good, but the poor impression left by the slow service and half the dishes told us to try elsewhere the next time in Rochester.

FIrst, to the other reviewer (Crystal): as a native New Englander but a Rochesterian for 20 years, I ask why anyone would order a lobster roll in Rochester :) Sounds like an anomalous, though poor, experience. This place is not designed to go to, if you are under time constraints, either.
I have been to this place a dozen times over the years. Always easy to get a reservation on Saturdays, unlike other top places around.
Had venison, my first experience with it, and it was well prepared seemingly, flavorful, and consistency semeed right on. Friendly, attentive service. Yes it is expensive, but that is the vibe and it's worth it for the effort that the chef appears to routinely put into the menu.

Visited Lento back in May and had a nice main with rabbit. Nice dimly lit ambience and very cozy. Only my second visit to Lento was deeply disappointing.
Not my first lobster roll but first one at Lento. There was not much lobster on the roll. Tried cutting into the lobster roll and bread roll was too tough, so I requested a steak knife from the server. I saw some black crumbs and I flipped the bread over to find a completely blackened bread roll (see picture).
I notified the manager and asked her if the rolls are normally this charred. She said they are grilled but this one was a quality control issue. She offered to replace the lobster roll. I needed to leave soon for my event soon so I just asked her to replace the roll lightly toasted and I would reassemble it. Someone brought another roll after 5 minute wait. The lobster roll didn’t taste like much, had little to no seasoning and chives didn’t perk it up at all. And the dry roll didn’t make it any better. Because of the light and faint flavor of the lobster and the strong taste of scorched bread, my taste buds were already tainted and everything else I ate tasted burnt.
Duck fat fries were tasty, but also only filled about ¾ of the small container it arrived in. In this picture I’d only eaten about 3 fries, even though it looks half empty. Half of the fries were shorter than one-inch stumps.
After I reassembled my meal, the bill came and there was no reduction for the inconvenience. I asked a server for a discount and she said the restaurant resolved the problem so no discount was needed. Later another server brought a bill with a 5% managerial discount. I asked to speak to the manager. After a 5 minute conversation, I requested 50% off the ticket and she removed 25% from the boil because the market cost of lobster was so expensive and said she hoped I’d give it another chance in the future. I’ve never had to ask staff so repeatedly for a discount for a food error or service error but looking at other reviews, I should have done my homework beforehand.
