A lovely old-style British-themed pub with authentic British food & drinks, friendly staff, and a cozy atmosphere! Drink like a pirate and Dance like a mermaid!

Haven't been to the Old Toad in way too long and I will be going back! Miss the Cask Ale and The Battered Onion Rings of yester year but the fries knocked it out of the park. Extra crispy just as I ordered and you'd be surprised in this city how many places don't care how u order but the toad does! My man had the Shepards Pie came with a small portion of fries and rpasted veggies it was very good and piping hot! Because I'm an ex owner operator of a couple restsurants lol i noticed another table order the shepards pie and they had way more fries and veg but look it happens and we we're full regardless! I had the small goat cheese salad with a basket of fries with really good quality cheddar and bacon on top. The beers we had were Franziskaner Hefenweizen and Old Speckled Hen both very heady on top had to ask for top offs once the foam settled and the young lady was kind enough to do so. Everyone needs to go to to The Old Toad everytime we walk by on what should be busy nights there's less than a handful of people and there is no reason for that! Let's lift up this place and flood them every night that they are open with crowds they used to have! Ya I know everyone misses the students with the English accents working there but times have changed! The Old Toad is still super cool and we need them in this city! Cheers to the Old Toad! Maybe one cask ale and those beer battered onion rings with some music could be a remember when event or something fun! I'll be there this week regardless! Cheers 🍻 P.S. I'd love to help the owner out I'm available and have the heart of an entrepreneur and the work ethic of Rosey the Riveter 💪 let's make this place theeee destination!!!

Went for a birthday dinner. Saturday night. The place was almost empty. Thought maybe we made a mistake. Service was very friendly. We ordered and when our food came we couldn't believe how good it was! Can't understand why more people weren't here on a Saturday night. We will definitely be back!

Hands down one of my favorite spots in Rochester
The mushy peas are spot on, and the fish and chips are very good — I hope they never close!

Love this place! Authentic Brit food, usually with an authentic Brit serving you! Great drink options, no TVs, Cork dart board... Fantastic!
EDIT: Down to a 4 from a 5. Since the pandemic I'd heard this place wasn't what it used to be but I finally went in to see for myself. The food was still decent, the OT burger is gone for some reason, no more foreign-exchange connection, out of place modern American music playing which I do not remember... I hope they are able to restore their former glory soon.
Pretty good spot. Nailed the English Pub vibe. Good variety on the beer list.

Coming from someone who’s actually English, a proper English pub that felt like back home. Proper food, and not touristy. Definitely worth a visit. Good pints as well.

I attend pretty much every Tuesday evening for trivia night. I was told by a "regular" to get there around 7:20pm to around 7:40pm to get a table. I usually go with someone who is wheelchair bound and it is easy, for the most part to come in an entrance that is ADA compliant. There is a blue button and the walkway is level with the sidewalk. The door swings open and in you roll! So nice when that happens and believe me many entrances are labeled ADA and they are NOT compliant!
There are two entrances, one ADA compliant and the other has a step up and is the actual entrance to the Old Toad. The place is a little bit smaller, but has that cozy quality in places. The place has atmosphere of a homey, but of an English Pub.
The wait staff are very kind and caring when serving, even when there is a crowd, the staff are still calm and collected. One guest had an emotional support dog, the staff were willing to go into the kitchen to get a water bowl for the dog! So everyone feels welcomed. One guest is a regular and is blind and they are very kind to make sure he knows where his drink is placed and they take time to explain his bill. Usually at this time I have not seen or heard the pitter patter of children. I haven't been to the Old Toad before 7 pm, so I don't know about bringing children.
The food is pretty well liked at our table, from the loaded fries to the Poutine fries are well liked! For Americans to have gravy on fries is a bit unheard of, I haven't heard a dislike with them yet. The size of that dish feed 3 people! I had a Taco-on-Taco Tuesday. The taco had Canandian Bacon, with a sauce and I have forgotten what other ingredient happened to be, It was great! Grand taste of ingredients I don't usually see together. There is a selection on the menu called minted mashed peas and they were out of this world. I love my peas, and someone said try these! Oh they were good, these peas weren't from a can and had a slight taste of mint, no, the mint was not overpowering .
Now, parking in the city is a little bit tricky. There is a parking lot in the back, but after a certain hour, the parking lot is primarily for the renters in the building. But if you get to the restaurant early in the evening, there should be a close enough spot on the street. I haven't yet seen spots for the disabled, but will update when I find out. There is parking right in front of the building for three cars and a street on the side has parking available. The atmosphere, the service, and decore are well worth a visit!

I walked down the street to The Old Toad after an amazing green curry at ThaiYada. Being full, I didn't try any of the food, but I really did enjoy this pub. The low key atmosphere, the decor, the whiskey menu, the kind bartenders...this is a place where you would want to become a regular. And as others have written, as about authentic an experience of a English pub as one could find.
The one slight downside to my experience is that I did wait to be seated for an unreasonable amount of time, given that it wasn't that busy and I made eye contact with the servers several times before one of them finally waved me over. Their kindness after that made up for the lack of immediate welcome.
