We have been coming here since it opened. It was - and I stress the past tense - one of the better Italian bistro-style restaurants in the city. But, it is in a downward spiral at the moment. With the exception of one waiter, most of the staff were young and inexperienced in the context of fine-dining. Service was good, but exceptionally slow. I ordered a pizza (which has been one of their staples for years) and half of it was burned black. By the time the manager got there, my girlfriend was almost done and I had eaten part of the unburned part, but there was no flavor, as if they'd forgotten the spices. To his credit (I guess) the manager took 50% off the pizza price . . . .
Amore' is not set up to advertise $6.00 wine and $1.00 oysters on Wednesday night. Our reservation was at 6:15 and they were waiting on more oysters to be delivered by then. When we ordered them we were told it would be awhile. We asked what that meant and were told 20 minutes. 30 minutes later the server said our oysters were being plated, 30 minutes later they actually arrived at our table. This got started off bad when we stood in the lobby area a full 10 minutes before the hostess, who we later learned was the manager ever showed up to seat anyone, even though tables were open. Servers walked by and say three different groups waiting to be seated but that didn't seem to speed anything up. One group at the bar waited so long they cancelled their order and left after telling the manager what an unpleasant experience they had. This is not the Wegman's we know, but Amore' currently has a serious customer service problem. Perhaps its the managers fault, the kitchen, don't know. Our bartender server was great and did everything he could to help the situation. I actually left him a tip upwards of 30%. We had a mushroom pizza while we waited for the oysters, which as very good. So were the oysters, but different. Served with their own vinegar based sauce, no crackers or bread was brought to the table. No seafood forks either, until after the second request by someone other than our server finally brought them. Hard to get oysters out of the shell if they have not been shucked properly (and these were not). Restaurant was quite enough until a couple came in, recognized the couple next to us and stood hoovering over their table in loud conversation for way too long. This was not the restaurants fault. People should know this is rude, especially more senor people as the hoovering couple was. We finally asked them if they could be quieter, and they were for about 30 seconds until someone told another laughter roaring story. Wegman's is better than this!!
Another outstanding dining experience at Amore. My spouse wanted the $1 oyster special, and was very happy with her order. We also had the calamari (always outstanding here), the new pizza special, and the Heavenly Lasagna. We would order them all again! Dessert was the White Chocolate Almond Torte—new for us, and excellent! Service was friendly and prompt, even though the place was super busy!
Very disappointed with service and food tonight. Cheese board appetizer did not come with any crackers or bread. Had to ask for bread twice. Oysters were not properly prepared. Foot was still attached to every shell. Asked for Tobasco and never got it. We were there for over 2 hours. Slowest service I've ever seen at Amore. And the phone went unanswered. Just kept ringing.
Long timers, we have been enjoying Amore since the week it opened, and have particularly enjoyed dining in the bar area at the high-tops during happy hour, which had nice food and drink specials. They kept cutting back on happy hour offerings to the point where it was pathetic, and then last night we were presented with the new happy hour menu which was insulting. They have raised prices throughout the restaurant far out of line with other restaurants and general food inflation, and now they are cutting back on serving sizes for HH items. The new menu shows 8" pizzas ($8 Margherita, $10 pepperoni) which is about half the size of their regular menu pizza, and half the cost! Cheap Wegmans branded wine is now $12 for a glass (I assume 5 oz pour) DURING HH! Still love the food, and the service has been great, but there is certainly no reason to go for happy hour anymore. Oh well!
We had a nice quiet corner on the main floor (I had requested a quiet location) One person in our party is hard of hearing and she mentioned that the low noise level allowed her to hear quite well. The food was good albeit a bit unimanginative. The usual: Chicken Parm, Salmon, Chicken cutlet, Pork, Branzino. I had the branzino which was served over a bed of chopped vegies. It was very good. The chicken parm was the usual-served over pasta. Probably the most interesting of all was the chocolate creme brulee for dessert. It was excellent. Our waitress was pleasant and not overly friendly. We all had different martinis which were perfect. The restaurant decor is very tasteful.
The primary reason we went was for the $1 Wednesday night oyster special. They were definitely unprepared from a staffing perspective for the amount of people that made reservations and / walked in. There was at least a 25 minute wait for the oysters. When served - they did not come with cocktail sauce and horseradish - I had to ask for it. The oysters were delicious though - Chesapeake Bay. The bread and salads prior to the main course were delicious although wish that our server had told us there was a smaller option for the salads when we ordered. They were huge! We also ordered the Bolognese - it was OK. Nothing stellar. We shared a Tiramisu for dessert - it was delicious. There was also a wine special which was great - helped to alleviate the time lag for the oysters. I wouldn't take away from the staff trying to keep up - they were definitely hustling but you could tell it was chaos. One couple left when they found out how long the wait was for the oysters. Would we go again? Probably - but it won't be at the top of the list. Wegmans used to have a restaurant called Next Door connected to the Pittsford Wegmans - now that was stellar!
We waited almost 15 minutes before being acknowledged at the hostess station. Our server was trying to staff the bar and 4 high top tables all at the same time and didn't offer or explain any specials. We ordered a pizza and a dozen oysters and it took over an hour for the oysters to come out. The pizza came out and the crust was mushy - like it had been sitting around. Overall, our experience for a simple, weeknight date night was disappointing.
We hosted two former students. Their first experience at Amore. Both were so impressed by the service, the food, and the ambiance. We are so grateful for Nikia, Sam, Andrew, Claudia, Pasquale, Kendall, Jordyn, and the entire crew!
I would have rated much higher but was very disappointed that our server was not honest with us on the cost of wine selection. We asked our server for advice on wine selection. She brought us two samples. We chose one. HOWEVER, she neglected to tell us that the one we selected was $22 per glass!!!! If we saw this ourselves on the menu, that would have been fine but when we ask a server for her recommendation/advice, she should be honest enough to let the customer know that the cost is out of the ordinary! $22/glass vs $12/glass is quite a difference. I thought this was dishonest and extremely distasteful! For this reason, I will not return and I will be sure to share this experience with everyone I know when Amore comes up as an option for someone to try! This server should be reprimanded. We ordered two glasses. $44 for two glasses of wine, seriously?? If I was aware of the cost, it would have been fine but to intentionally not tell us, was a turnoff to say the least.

Dinner for three. My wife and sister-in-law had drinks at the bar. The girls don't drink and I had Amore's Italian Old Fashioned, which was great. We moved to the dining room for Fried Calamari with Spicy Calabrian chili pepper dressing, 2 Chicken Cutlet orders and a pizza special with 3 cheeses, prosciutto and arugula. Wonderful location and ambience of NYC. Very underrated restaurant.
Everything was amazing! We started with the Lobster Bruschetta and it was absolutely delicious! We then shared the Chicken Cutlet with Misticanza and the Casarecce with Crab and Lemon Cream Sauce. Both were good sized portions and also very delicious. The service was outstanding! We will be back.
Leandra was our server and bartender and was also a joy to get to know. We chose high tops for a change and no regrets. Also, we so enjoyed so many of our friends on the Amore staff came to greet us. We are so fortunate. We shall miss Leandra. She is quite a talent and personality.
Hi. I made a reservation for 3. Our experience with our waiter was not a pleasant one. We notice that he was not attentive to our table as he was with the other tables around us and he was serving. Hi demeanor wasn't pleasant; he barely interacted with us and his checking to see if we were ready to order never happened. We were ordering drinks and he only took one order because he was so busy attempting make sure the other tables were served, that we had to call him back to take the other drink order. The service was so disappointing that we ended up not having dinner at the restaurant and left.
I LOVED my meal here! I've had a lot of Italian but this was new and fresh to me. Everything was on point, well executed, and delicious. Service was great, in a homey atmosphere. I can't wait to return next time I'm in town!
