We ate here for all three nights of our stay in Roxbury - and oh boy did we enjoy it! I had the salmon special with garlic and aioli sauce, and my husband had the ribs - ALL ThREE NIGhTS! We enjoyed the two dishes so much we didn't want to not have them every night! The service is quick and the food is delicious! We'll be back!
We have been going to the Public for years because it is convenient. The food is often mediocre and the service worse but we give it another shot because it is nearby. We can't understand why the waitress seems uninterested in being attentive or genuinely friendly. This time we ordered from the pre-fix menu (restaurant week) and the cod was bland and dry; the flank steak (ordered medium rare) came well done. They did re do it after I pointed it out. There are only a handful of restaurants to choose from in Roxbury, but luckily they all seem to be good. Had a late dinner at the Public and even though they were out of a lot of items, everything we ordered was great. Don't forget to try the Coconut Custard Pie! Serving is big enough to split between two people, but you won't want to! One of the best coconut pies I've tasted.
