Welp. I didn’t think they could top my first experience, but they did
Shane tom and Declan and the whole staff especially the chefs aim to exceed and they do.
My wife and I don’t really get to get out often and we discovered this place almost a year ago from dinner tonight and it was fireworks once again.
Truly, an experience from the attention to detail to the exquisite plating the home crafted drinks you would think they paid me to write this, but I swear to you I didn’t.
Unbelievably worth a shot if you haven’t tried yet. You won’t be disappointed .
Thanks again

My wife and I recently ate at Mosaic in St. James after some recommendations from friends. I was a little bit hesitant because they really don’t operate in the way that traditional restaurants do, with menus. Instead, when you make your reservation, they get a sense of the kinds of things you like to eat and the things you may want to avoid, based on your tastes, allergies or just aversions to certain types of food. They use this knowledge to curate a 5 course meal for you. The reason this made me nervous was because I am the kind of person who always orders the same thing at restaurants, usually the steak. In other words I’m not really a risk taker when it comes to food, so it seemed to me that trusting my selection of food to people who are not me would be inherently risky. I’m happy to say that my fears were unfounded. This was the first time in my life when I felt like I wasn’t just having dinner, I was taking part in a tasting experience. First of all, all of the servers are themselves cooks, and therefore they are not only knowledgeable, but also noticeably passionate about what they serve you. Anthony Mazza, our server, took the time to explain the origins of each course as well as the logic of the flavor pairings. What we ended up with was not merely service but an education. Although I consider myself to be a competent home cook, this opened up a whole new world to me. Needless to say, each course was beyond delicious and I even said to my wife out loud that I’m so glad we didn’t go someplace where I could just order the steak. The other thing I was nervous about was the portion size. I am a big guy and eat a lot. I was afraid that the trope of the fancy restaurant that would intentionally serve undersized portions in an attempt to adhere to some idea of being gourmet would prove correct. Thankfully, nothing could be further from the truth. I was very full by the time we were done with dessert and my wife actually couldn’t quite finish hers, which is definitely a first! The next time I go I will do the wine pairing; I was regretting not doing it as I saw other tables around us enjoying that experience. Although definitely not a cheap night out, eating at Mosaic offers you an elevated experience that sets itself apart from the hundreds of restaurants we’ve eaten at that are merely good or even great. You get something fuller and richer, something in a category of its own, something you simply have to try.

An absolutely fantastic experience last night. I also went here back in 2019 as well and it was just as good. Got to meet the chef at the end he chatted with us a little bit about the food. Food was fantastic. Experience was fantastic. Deathly worth going to. You really can’t give this place anything other than five stars.

Nestled on Long Island, this restaurant delivered what can only be described as one of the finest dining experiences of my life, if not the absolute pinnacle. The five-course meal was nothing short of exceptional, each dish a testament to culinary artistry, expertly matched and balanced with flavors that were both innovative and masterfully executed.
From the first course to the last, every plate was extraordinary, showcasing an astounding attention to detail. The dishes were not only creative but also perfectly harmonious, with experimental touches that never overshadowed the expertise behind them. The accompanying wines were phenomenal, each pour meticulously paired to elevate the flavors of the meal, creating a symphony of taste that lingered long after each bite.
The add-ons were worth their weight in gold, adding layers of complexity that surpassed all expectations. These enhancements didn’t just complement the meal—they transformed it, introducing delightful surprises that made every course even more memorable.
The service was equally phenomenal, with staff who anticipated every need with warmth and professionalism. The atmosphere was cozy and personalized, creating an intimate setting that made the evening feel uniquely special.
Pricing was remarkably reasonable given the caliber of the experience. The value of such a meticulously crafted meal, paired with impeccable service and an inviting ambiance, was undeniable. This was, without question, one of the best meals I’ve ever had at a restaurant on Long Island, and I eagerly await my next visit to this culinary gem.

Innovative, brilliant, and a fantastic tea selection. All that combined with a refreshing lack of pretension makes this an absolute gem on the island. I cannot wait to return.

So refreshing to see a Long Island restaurant really trying to do something different and really trying to push the boundaries of ingredients with a real focus on the diner's tastes. When you make the reservation you are asked the for allergies and what you don't like. I did this and was very pleasantly surprised to receive a call from the chef. With the reservation agreed we attended for our anniversary. It's important you're fulsome and plain with your likes and dislikes as you will find out when you eat at the wonderful Mosaic! We opted for the better of the two wine tasting options. It was my fault that I did not inform the sommelier that the wines did not quite match what arrived- totally my fault. but the wines were by and large fulsome and interesting. Stars dishes were wonderful autumnal NY strip with spaetzle, and a charred venison crudo. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. It's so different from your usual boring predictable Long Island Italian American/Seafood/Americana production line. Mosaic has its own concept it's own obsessive fascination about the food and wine, all expertly served with friendly service. It just totally works. I love it and I will go back.
Immaculate presentation and flavors. Perfect wine pairings. Highly recommended and will be returning!
