I really enjoyed this dining experience at the track. The staff was all extremely friendly and welcoming. They were also helpful at check in for the club, as it was our first time visiting the races. The food was pretty good, and the service was excellent!
During racing season this is a very popular venue. So, plan on making reservations. Again, this restaurant did not disappoint. This is our "go to" restaurant in Saratoga Springs as it is next door from the B&B we stay at. This year we had Olivia as our server, and she was very personable, professional and calm. The hostess (and I should know her name as she has been there for quite some time) was so kind to make minor adjustments in our reservation times. It is hard to predict what time you will arrive after a day at the races. We look forward to our dinners there in August 2024!
We had great seat overlooking the racetrack! The servers were very attentive. Our waitress Jackie was so nice ! The food was good and the Saratoga chips were great.
Following up on my review of July 27, 2021, The Brook Tavern in Saratoga Springs, NY is still fabulous. When in town for thoroughbred racing, The Brook is a "sure-thing" for a great night out. We had the Fried Pickles appetizer, Fish Sandwich & Steak Frites during our last visit on July 14, 2023. Carol Ann and her extraordinary staff will see to it that you have a wonderful dining experience in an exceptional setting. The location - diagonally across from the historic Saratoga Race Course and just down the street from The National Museum of Racing - is unbeatable, too. Call this one a "Best Bet" selection.
The Brook Tavern in the heart of Saratoga Springs, is in a converted 1800s horse carriage factory, turned home and then restaurant with indoor and patio dining. It seemed to have a good balance of both casual dining with wood-topped tables and formal dining options with white table cloths. The wooden bar was long and full of people, and a cozy light reflected off the tin tiles on some of the walls. As we were waiting for our order, we could not help but notice that the plates served around us seemed to have more than ample portions. We had had a substantial lunch, so I was not hungry enough to order a large dinner, and instead had the French onion soup. Usually, French onion soups have a minimum of onion and beef stock flavor, which often prompts me to order a glass of rich red wine to pour into it. But this soup was full of onion, a rich beef stock and a tangy cheese that made it a delicious dinner all to itself. My husband had the crispy duck with a potato hash and sweet and sour Brussels sprouts. He really enjoyed the duck and licked his fingers. Afterward, we decided to split a piece of coconut cream pie, and thoroughly enjoyed it, too. The food and ambiance were very good. It was nice to see that they have a good wine selection, they offer music entertainment on Tuesday nights, and they give to charitable organizations with donation receipts. Know that they are closed on Sundays and Mondays, and stop serving at 9:00 p.m.
Coconut cream pie is delicious. Ahi tuna app prepared perfectly. Tuna very fresh and high quality. I loved that the avocado crema and cucumbers were not too spicy. Daily special salad with strawberries and goat cheese was fine. Strawberries were very sweet and perfectly ripe. Slivered almonds were tasty, as was the dressing Husband enjoyed the potstickers app and blackened salmon added to Caesar salad. We would return and try other dishes.
After a long day driving, we chose Brook Tavern because it was next door to the B&B. The hostess first told us our wait would be 20minutes, which seemed reasonable; as soon as we found a spot to wait, she found a table for us. Good luck was with us! Service was friendly and pretty efficient considering how busy the restaurant was. The brussel sprouts were shared by the 3 of us and very tasty with a strong maple glaze flavor. The pulled pork tacos were a good size portion and nicely put together; the wings were good and the potstickers were also good. Only the caesar salad was disappointing because it was chopped and without sufficient dressing and the wild mushroom soup, while tasty was not hot enough. Overall, a good meal after a long trip!
We sat outside for dinner on a wrap around porch at this charming restaurant. They were so accommodating because no one was sitting outside and it was relatively busy.
The hostess was an older lady who was absolutely out of line and just flat out rude. First, we had a reservation, called me because I was running 8 minutes late, however my party was there. Second, they lost power and we were willing to still sit and still have dinner. They wouldn’t service us and “drinks”. We received our food and having a great time, but wanted something else to drink so the serve was so nice to give us soda, the hostess flipped out and was made we were being served! This women then came over and said oh you guys got a light and have the perfect seating, a lot of people didn’t have that. She was so rude to our table. I have no idea why. She was disrespectful to her staff as well. We go here about once every two weeks, spend on average $200-$250 each time, tip 20% or more, and we will NEVER return.
Hostess sat us at a small table for two in a corner of the restaurant behind the booths, saying that the better and more central seats were for locals who expect them when they come in. I guess visitors to Saratoga get stuck into a corner. We both ordered the fish tacos and they had way too much cayenne pepper in the rub - not good. We heard the people in the booth behind us sending them back and wished that we had done the same. The portion was also very small and not served with beans and rice as pictured above. A few pieces of wilted lettuce with a small piece of fish on top. More like an app or a starter than a main. Sorry to ding you, Brook Tavern, but we were very disappointed. BTW this was long after race season ended so there is no excuse.

Went out with a friend to try the this restaurant for Restaurant Week. The menu offered a great seafood options but I can no longer can do shellfish but I am Sure it is delicious. So we both went other the Pork rib mango habanero sauce appetizer ! It was delicious I hope They put this on their menu. We got the slow Braised pork that was delicious. Then desert was Banana cream pie . Best I ever had. Also we ordered the Orange Chocolate pot de cream. Delicious also! We also ordered drinks! Pumpkin Bourbon was delicious and a ipa beer from Vermont was good also! I recommend going to dinner here! Nice seating by a window and away from people so we could talk.
Nothing but quality all the way, haven’t been here in a few years not because of anything over than we live out of the state. This is a excellent spot for a drink and a first class dinner. We started with the Brussel sprouts ( delicious ) and a few oysters . than for the main dish pan seared walleye with a Smokey sauce , seared vegetables over risotto. A filet mignon with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. Service is great and the food exceptional , mind you we visit in the off season and it’s very busy. If your in the area and looking for a cozy place look no further. Make sure you reservation.
Although the track season has ended, Saratoga Springs remains as a dining destination. Service at Brook Tavern was very good, and the prices are reasonable compared to other restaurants in Saratoga, but you have to be willing to put up with a high noise level. Unfortunately, I found it impossible to carry on a conversation because of the noise. The menu was varied and there is something for everyone. The triple burrata appetizer was a little on the sweet side for me. I would opt for something else were I to go back. I will say that the swordfish was excellent, and a substantial portion. According to my dinner companion, the filet. was tasty and tender. I will say I thought the wine list by the glass was limited. And parking is tough on a busy night.
We went for dinner for one of our friend's birthday. We ordered appetizers, entrees and dessert along with many cocktails and 2 bottles of wine. We were feeling rushed by the server and while we were having desert and still a full bottle of wine, the owner came to our table to tell us that we had to leave as they had a 13 person group waiting around. This happened a minute after we paid for the bill. We were shocked. She was going to take the bottle with her even if we already paid for it. She suggested we drank it at the bar standing up. I will never go back there again. This was the worst experience I've ever had and i will make sure to let everyone know about what this restaurant/owner is all about. Just disgusted.
After the races, I went straight to the Brook Tavern for cocktails and snacks. Try the raspberry vodka lemonade - Molly the bartender makes awesome drinks!
