If you want a fat sandwich, a cold beer, and old school tavern vibes, this place is a gem.

When my father was an alcoholic he used to get drunk here and me and my mom would stay in the car. He's fully sober now.

Delicious food. Very accommodating for my gluten intolerance. Thank you! The reuben was delicious. Big portions enough for sharing. Great presentation, but I was too eager to eat the food that I forgot to take photos!

My volleyball group hits the Portly every Thursday after our games. We always get some apps and enjoy an ever changing beer menu.

Good place to catch a game and catch up with friends.

The food is good, prices are cheap, and the bartender was pretty cool. They had a pretty large selection of liquor, but were limited on beer. I came in with a group and at least half of us were told they didn't have our first choice - popular stuff like Coors and Corona, too. Not from the area so can't say I'll be back any time soon, but I'd probably come again if in town.

Came into Sayville with my daughter and wasn't sure what we wanted for lunch. We decided on sandwiches and thought that Portly Villager sounded interesting. So glad we chose to stop there. We got beers on tap and macaroni and cheese bites to start. Good start, but the sandwiches were unbelievable!!! My daughter got the smokehouse turkey. The turkey was so flavorful that it tasted as if it was shaved straight off of the turkey. I got the Italian sandwich. Hands down in my top two Italian sandwiches ever!! The sandwiches were piled high and came with a bag of chips and a side of macaroni salad. Neither of us could finish even half of the sandwich. We took home what we couldn't finish and are looking forward to leftovers. The price was very good for the portion size. Our service was great as well. If I'm ever back in the area, I will definitely be bringing my husband in to eat!!

We ordered takeout tonight for a group of six. We ordered some apps and sandwiches. The pizza rolls were ok but didn't come with the marinara mentioned on the menu. The mozzarella sticks were what you would expect but also missing marinara. The disco taters had a splash of gravy and no identifiable cheese. Gross.

Someone ordered the Portly Cordon Bleu but it had what seemed to be a breath of chicken breast on it; like the shavings you would see after the chicken was sliced in the deli. It was 80% bread, a slice of ham, probably (?) cheese, and mustard on stale bread.

Another person ordered the Portly Cheesesteak. It was also served on the same stale bread as previously mentioned and had a sneeze of cheese on it. The onion was just slices of red onion. That's not at all what a cheesesteak should be; this was an epic cheeseMISteak.

Somehow the Texas Cheesesteak was better; it was served on something similar to a pretzel bun but had no noticeable BBQ sauce. The bread to meat ratio was way off. The person who ordered it said "it's not terrible."

Someone else ordered the Italian hero and was unimpressed. Same stale bread; bread:meat=crap.

And the last sandwich was the Reuben and it was actually good!! I'll give credit where credit is due!

I've eaten here years before and never had an issue but this was abhorrent. I don't think I would give this another chance.

Outstanding food/sandwiches and for a reasonable price! It’s your typical dive bar so not much to offer for space and scenery.

I ended up here on my birthday, the place is cute and charming, the bartender was nice and everyone else sitting at the bar looked friendly. It stopped by chance but I will definitely return.
Thank you for your hospitality!

Everything very good here, just caution if you come for lunch on weekend with a group of 4 or more, you'll get a one sandwich about every 10 minutes, so first to last served in group will be 40 minutes apart. If more people in group, do the math. Too bad, as again, everything else is very good. Just caution if a group eating at lunch time on weekend.
