There are a lot of great things about this place. For starters, the owner, Jackie, usually welcomes you at the door. On quiet evenings, she'll even ask you where you'd like to sit. If you've been there a couple of times, she may even remember which wine you ordered last visit. You can casually sit at the bar or on the leather couches and graze on cheese or meat boards while sipping on one of the many wonderful wine options served here. Jackie travels aboard to define and complement the restaurant's vast collection. If you're having dinner, the burrata appetizer and the tuna dinner are both amazing. Tables are spaced for privacy and you are never rushed. A great local option!

I am giving this wine bar three stars. The three stars are for the very lovely night I had with our friends and the terrific, jazz trio along with the nice vibe this place had to offer. I am being generous in my rating. Let's talk about the food I ordered. The foie gras which if you look at the Yelp pictures, you will see that it's a substantial piece. What I received was a quarter piece of toast with a bite-size piece of foie gras YES a bite size piece of foie gras with a brown sauce on top accompanied with a scoop of apple chutney all for the low low price of $26 It was an insult to any dining guest. I can't tell you how annoyed I was . I can honestly tell you that I felt like the biggest fool that I paid that price for something that an owner or a chef should feel embarrassed for putting out a plate like that and charging that amount. We all looked at that plate and couldn't believe it. Things took a turn for the worse when I received the grilled octopus, which again in the Yelp pictures shows a nice piece of grilled octopus which mine was not, it was three pieces which were small pieces overdone, accompanied by a very strong, smoky sauce of chorizo and beans, and I love chorizo and beans, but not with this. I could've gotten past that if I got a decent piece of octopus, which again for the low price of $26 I felt it was an insult. The wine was fabulous. My husband enjoyed his sliders because what could you do toburger sliders . The service was extremely slow. It took well over an hour if not longer to get the food but I will say we did have a leisurely nice time but if I had to say something about the food, it would be that this needs to be stepped up big time. If you're going to charge prices like this you need to be on your game, so for this, I would not recommend. . I would just say this was not for me and my husband so we will not be back and we dine out every Friday and Saturday. I work hard for my money and there are too many places within this area that will offer me delectable food, great service and not make me feel like I was taken advantage of. I am still feeling robbed.

Tonight they had no waitstaff. We had to wait an extra long time for anything. Coffee was served luke warm and not with cream or sugar. When we asked for sugar the buss boy dropped a single packet on to our table. when we asked for cream it was served in a ramikin. Tonight was super weird. I never had such a bad experience there before. Food was good as usual.

If you like beer and wine this is the place and they have the best creme brûlée I've had! It sure beat Le Bistro! I haven't tried the rest of their food but their charcuterie board looked amazing and I had a hard time not asking the people sitting across from us on the couches if I could have what they were leaving behind! And yes, I behaved myself and didn't say anything, but I did look lustfully after their board.

Just LOVE this place, amazing wine list, solid food, we had scallops, lamb and artichokes, and Jaclyn, the owner is wonderful!

Wine was good, ambiance nice, food was nothing great. Had to send one meal back due to a food allergy and it appears they rinsed the gravy off (partially) and brought the same meal back out. Server was ok

Chill vibe. Chill crowd. Easy going and the perfect way to end a Friday and an especially long week...even though it was a short Labor Day week. It was my first night here and I will be back many many times! I loved how easy it was to relax and enjoy myself in this establishment. If you are looking for a tapas dinner with an exquisite wine and bubbly selection- Madiran is it. I ordered the warmed olives and the bone marrow and both were incredible. Even the sides that came with the bone marrow were 10/10. There was live music and since the place is so intimate he came and sat at the bar after and chatted with me. Jim was great! I also met the owner, Jackie who was very kind and accommodating. Thanks for a wonderful night.

So... where do I begin. Everything starts at the top. When a restaurant goes downhill, it's ownership. Well. In this case. This owner is incredible. We've been here a few times, and every time is better than the next. The French board was insane. With cheeses and patè... jams. Pickles. Expertly put together. The burratta was amazing. Sweet glaze with savory notes. The main course, orcchietta pasta with sausage and pesto with red peppers. Amazing. The grilled octopus with summer corn and beans was perfect. I really can't say enough good things about this place. 10 stars if I could. I'd take pictures of the food, but it's gone!

This place is a welcomed, refined but casual addition to Setauket's wanting, if not barren restaurant landscape.Nice ambience- European/ Grateful Dead inspired.Food is very good. Somewhat inconsistent portions, less so quality and prices. Some items are reasonably priced, some are a bit steep. Overall a nice wine bar with generally great food. Jazz on the weekends, which you won't find elsewhere, which is nice.Crowd is an older mix of bourgeoise locals.

We went here a few months ago for a late night bite. It is definitely not your local watering hole. While the menu is not cheap, it is certainly worth every penny. We had Prosecco and the Italian board. The quality of the Prosecco was excellent; and the board was fresh and. delicious. It was much too much food for just the two of us. More than a lite bite. The service was excellent. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. I love that they limit the clientele. You are only aloud to enter if there's a table or bar seat available. No standing three deep in a crowded bar with people pushing to get to the restrooms or back to their friends. The jazz trio playing that night was excellent. Familiar music with a jazzy twist. We will definitely be back to Madiran to try out their dinner menu.
