After hiking in Harriman State Park, our go-to spot for dinner is always Rhodes North Tavern, where we almost always indulge in their cheeseburgers. During our visit about a month ago, we stuck to our routine and ordered our cheeseburgers medium rare, accompanied by a side of French fries. To our satisfaction, our order was spot-on!The cheeseburgers were cooked impeccably, boasting a delightful pink and juicy interior. Admittedly, they leaned a tad towards medium, but hey, that's why we opt for medium rare, right? ;)However, the French fries didn't quite hit the mark. They had an odd taste, almost like they were sprinkled with something resembling sand. It was a bit disappointing considering how well the burgers were prepared. On a previous occasion, my husband decided to deviate from our cheeseburger tradition and opted for the ribeye steak, while I settled for the half-roasted chicken, as I wasn't feeling like having red meat that day. Unfortunately, neither of our dishes lived up to expectations. My husband's steak, despite being cooked to his liking, was disappointingly tough and sinewy. It was quite a challenge to eat. My chicken, ordered plain without any sauces, had an unusual yellow color and an off-putting taste. Initially, I suspected it might not have been fresh, but it's possible that it was due to some spices or seasoning that didn't agree with my palate. I managed to eat some of it, but it wasn't an enjoyable experience, so I ended up mainly sticking to the mashed potatoes.Despite the less-than-stellar experience with non-burger dishes, Rhodes North Tavern remains a top choice for burger enthusiasts. The service is consistently excellent, and the ambiance of the restaurant is quite pleasant. Overall, I still recommend giving this place a try, especially if you're in the mood for a delicious burger!

I stopped in late afternoon for lunch. A delicious Reuben sandwich with a side of onion rings was quickly served, along with a fresh pint of beer, and with a tip it was $20 which I consider extremely fair. I'll be back.

A buddy of mine visited this establishment with us and was rudely confronted about an improper paperwork for a service dog.. the worker who was smoking accused, my friends of having a service dog that wasn't needed. I don't care how good the food is you're going to have that kind of attitude attitude will make the food taste like garbage don't recommend going.

I reluctantly compose this review, saddened by the decline I've witnessed at Rhodes under its new ownership. What was once a beloved mainstay has now become disappointingly lackluster. During my recent visit, I encountered a disheartening array of issues: a dish served completely frozen, entrees poorly prepared, and a substantial hike in prices. The parking lot is also a complete mess filled with mud and potholes. Regrettably, this visit will mark my last.To the new owners: I implore you to reconsider your approach and return to the fundamentals. Rhodes thrived on a simple yet effective formula: offering high-quality cuisine at reasonable prices. Revisiting this tried-and-true strategy could pave the way for a resurgence in the restaurant's appeal.Parking: Muddy and pothole filled lot, beware.

Party of 9, arrived and told us they don't have our reservation, however they were able to accommodate us upstairs. Waitress tells us no nitrogen, hence no draft beer. Took awhile for the drinks to come and finally we put in appetizers. Food was good, minus forgetting my soup and side, everyone else's came out correctly. Service was a little slow, as I think we were the forgotten table upstairs, our food came out and no one checked on us until we were finished and needed to go boxes. Assuming it was just a busy night.

My boyfriend and I had a much needed date night Saturday night at Rhodes. This locale regularly has a band playing on weekends nights. This was my first time here. We went to see ThunderStruck play for the evening, and we decided to have dinner before the band went on. The place is very cute and homey. There are many rooms with tables. It really does look very old fashioned. We sat in a booth by the window and I did feel a bit chilly but then again the building is old and the temperature was in the teens. I threw on my shawl and I was good to go. All of the food we ordered was great. My favorite was the fried calamari app. Our portions were a decent size. My boyfriend even took home his leftovers. I, on the other hand, ate all of my food, like the beast I am. LOL! Our server was spot on as well. After our dinner, we moved onto the bar area where the band had set up to play. They were awesome playing heavy metal and rock songs from the 80s. Everyone there had a great time. I am looking forward to returning back to Rhodes for both their food and their entertainment.

Nice people, delicious carrot cake and cheesecake. I like the little quotes on the wall. They make for good conversation starters!

We have been coming here for years!!! It seems it had definitively changed owners. The last few times we've came I've noticed small little changes and not good ones! The menu is completely cut in half. They also got rid of the classic busy paper menu and went to the traditional bi- fold menu. Ordered the steamed clams and shrimp for appetizer. Seafood had a weird odor to it and only got 6 shrimp compared to 14 clams! Ordered pulled pork sandwich (ordered before plenty of times) bun was a soggy sponge! Pork itself was good with bbq sauce Got mash potatoes instead of fries, and I swear they tasted like boxed potatoes! So bland! Along with jarred brown gravy. My father ordered a crispy chicken sandwich, menu says comes with mustard, pickle, lettuce, onion. Only lettuce came on it! It was not crispy what so ever! It was a frozen chicken patty!! Not the classic crunchy crispy breaded chicken! Definitely will not be coming back! Not even if family is back in town! So sad how they've let them selves go. Along with the entire new staff! Still very friendly just odd no familiar faces!

Haven’t been here in awhile. We arrived around 3, sat at the bar for a drink and some clams. Bartender was catering to her local clients and was not attentive or friendly to me and my husband. I guess since we are older we didn’t matter! Cosmo was terrible as was the service! We waited an unusually amount of time for steamed clams! We went to sit at a booth to wait for clams and to order dinner. Our waitress at our booth was the best part of our experience I think her name is Natalie. We spent $130 for disappointment and ok food!! Will not be back!

What a fun place! We only went for some later night drinks, but had a great time. All the regulars at the bar were friendly and fun. Karaoke was great too!

Rhodes North Tavern is a great breakfast and lunch destination. Owners and staff are friendly to all who enter. On several occasions they have allowed our group (Ramapo Motorcycle Club) to used their parking area for our annual Fall Foliage Run in October. We get there early to enjoy a hearty breakfast before getting on the road. During lunch it gets a little crowded but that's a sign that this is a good place to be.
