I amm a repeat customer who has always enjoyed the baked goods here, but my most recent visit was extremely disappointing due to the poor customer service.
When I requested a plastic bag, the staff member at the counter reacted with an unnecessary level of frustration and spoke to me in a very rude tone. The exchange became very unpleasant, and I was made to feel like an inconvenience.
It was clear that the bakery has a policy about charging for bags and could not allow me to purchase a plastic bag because I did not buy food , but this was never explained to me politely. A simple explanation would have been perfectly acceptable. Instead, the employee's poor attitude completely soured my experience. While the pastries are always delicious, the unprofessional and disrespectful behavior from the staff is enough to make me reconsider returning.
I hope management will use this as a training opportunity to ensure their staff can communicate store policies to customers with more courtesy and respect in the future.
Great bread

My mom loves coming here because she says how Tastwell is a great family-run establishment, where it is one of the few Guyanese joints on Liberty, where the food is not oily and mostly prepared fresh per order i.e. making roti fresh per order as my mom heard the staff telling the kitchen “prepare a roti”. Whereas some establishments have roti pre-made sitting out under a warmer all day.
Not to mention they prepare Guyanese delicacies that are rare to find in other restaurants such as Hassa curry, & Kitchri to name a couple. My mom loves their baked goods as well. Really recommend.

First off let me start by saying I’ve been a loyal customer to this place for their bread and especially from the sweet service from the young girls at the store HOWEVER today what I witnessed was completely disrespectful. I just opened the store door to find a line wrapped all the way to the door..while holding the door for someone to come out a worker from outside started yelling at me to close their door that I can’t freeze up the store for me to wait outside if I can’t fit, shocked because of how rude he (a dark skin man who was bringing in sugar into the store) as I literally just got there..how was I supposed to know there was a line to the door IF I didn’t open i it to see . whoever he is worker or owner they just lost a paying customer. I don’t tolerate disrespect especially when I’m working my money

the female staff working here have disgusting attitudes. They gossip about customers on the line, laugh at people. Today I bought bread and the female staff who worked today 11/17/2024 in the afternoon that wore the hat served me as if I was a dog. She just threw the bread on the counter and didn’t even ask if I wanted a bag. Instead she said “that’s it” and when I asked for a bag, she turned to the next female staff to complain and said how I come to buy bread and didn’t bring a bag rudely. She got upset because a previous customer said something and she took it out on me. That is NOT how you treat customers. If you see someone don’t have a bag, you simply ask if they need one, don’t have an attitude about it. She got in her feelings over a 10 cents bag. People are not coming to your house to buy so it’s not okay to be rude and arrogant to customers. People are paying for products, this store doesn’t provide free things to people so she needs to cut the attitude or find another job. The next customer will not take her nasty attitude lightly.

Just want to share this: great place to buy bread but had a bad experience today 9/11/24. There were 2 cashiers their and 1 was vacant, I went up and with a sour face and an attitude like she doesn't want to be there said I didn't call you up! She look as if she was angry and just don't want to be there. She was a Guyanese girl with her lip all lined up. The other cashier took care of me, very friendly- Tastewell please, you can do better...

- The food/ baked goods used to be pretty good. But nowadays, they are not consistent with portion sizes/ sizing, taste and freshness.
- The workers there are rude. Like why? We come to your store and are nice, only to be met with ugly attitudes.
- Lastly, how are you going to have employees watch a customer be bothered by unruly children, one a pre- teen- who got in that customer’s face and not do anything?!?! How does anyone run a store like this?! I’m so flabbergasted because that clearly wayward/ unmannered child could’ve caused that customer physical harm. It was only at the threat of calling the authorities from the customer, that an employee yelled at the children to leave (multiples times at that).
I’d say do better but clearly that would be useless advice. It’s sad seeing West Indian businesses run like this. Like other customers have said, there are other good bakeries/ stores to patronize.
