Relaxed despite its trendy vibe and sophisticated fare. Salads are huge. Pasta is well prepared. Pork chop is Fred Flintstone-esque. Wine list is varied and priced about what one expects.

From the moment we walked into Southold Social, we knew we were in for something special. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between casual charm and refined elegance, making you feel instantly welcomed and relaxed.

The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely kind—every interaction felt thoughtful and unhurried. It’s clear they care about the guests and the experience they’re creating. A special thank you to the manager, who was not only gracious and professional but also took the time to check in on us personally. That extra touch made our evening feel even more special.

And the food—absolutely outstanding. Each dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor, showcasing local ingredients with creativity and finesse. From the first bite to the last, everything was prepared to perfection.

Southold Social is a gem on the North Fork. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit.

Six of us went for my birthday on June 7th and were excited as we had heard good things from friends about the food. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Placed drink orders and also ordered a bottle of wine, then ordered our meal. Apps came on schedule and were overall good. Octopus and Caesar Salad were excellent, my Cavatelli was OK but over cooked. Farmers salad also OK. Then things started to unravel. We were waiting about 40-45 minutes for our entrees when we saw our server go over to the hostess who i believe was the manager. She looked over at us and mentioned something to her. She went into the kitchen and came out apologizing about the wait and offered to comp our desserts. We were ok with that thinking our food was coming, which it didn't. After about another 20 minutes she came back and again apologized with no explanation as to why it was taking so long. There was a couple who were seated around the time we received our apps who had just been served their entrees. With that we were done. We asked for our check and offered to pay what we had received at which time the manager offered to comp the wine. After about 10 minutes we received the check and it was wrong. Waited for about another 10 minutes and the second check was wrong at which time she offered to comp the entire check. We tipped the server and left never receiving an explanation as to what happened.

We were really excited for our visit to South Hold Social, especially since it’s connected to Francois Payard, whose chocolates hold a special place in my heart from childhood. My grandfather used to bring us Payard chocolates when he had a shop in Manhattan, so once we found out that Payard had a restaurant, we planned and looked forward to this visit for about a year.

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The cocktails we ordered were not enjoyable, it was mentioned that our food was delayed due to a large party, leading us to wait over an hour without our entrees. When our food finally arrived, one person received the wrong pasta, and two of the dishes needed salt. Again, we were left waiting quite some time for acknowledgment .

Overall, we felt like burdens due to the party, and that our meal was an inconvenience . No one attempted to rectify the situation despite acknowledging once that we were waiting a very long time. There was no apology, just a statement.

I hope that others have a better experience, but unfortunately, ours was disappointing.

From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave, you feel like you are getting star treatment from the attentive staff. Fantastic food from a menu designed to treat your pallet. With perfect portions and an atrfuil presentation, it does not disappoint. Specialty cocktails and local wines are an added treat. And speaking of treats, do not skip out on dessert. The cheesecake was superb!

Went for Easter dinner, was excited to try something new. Unfortunately this place is very green. The server spoke with a very relaxed manner. The price fixe was definitely overpriced for the quality and selection.

Our server was hard to be found just saw her constant walking around aimlessly. I wanted a glass of wine after my cocktail with my dinner. Dinner came out still no service other than the busser/food runner.

Finally after flagging down the waitress, I ordered wine. To make matters worse our food arrived cold, but by the time the waitress came over we didn’t want to ruin our evening so we ate the food regardless, which was sub par. I also had to remind the waitress to get our second round of drinks and we were almost finished eating at this point, so no wine with the meal. The saving grace was the delicious tiramisu.

Other than that our waitress wouldn’t even show face to handle the bill. Not sure being in the industry how you would not say farewell to your table.

Completely upsetting for the cost and “upscale experience”. Horrible service, and food was nothing to talk about. Also felt rushed out. Not good.

My two friends and I shared all of the dishes we ordered...

Charred Octopus - delicious; we all enjoyed
Sautéed Broccolini - delicious; crunchy, not overcooked
Creamy Polenta - delicious; creamy and cheesy
Fresh Housemade Cavatelli - underwhelming; the veal and mirepoix ragu was watery and a bit bland
Black Squid Ink Linguini - underwhelming; shrimp was tender and plump, but sauce was bland and watery again
Grilled Branzino - delicious; perfectly cooked and seasoned
Chocolate Delight - yummy; nice chocolate and hazelnut elements combined on the plate; different textures were definitely a delight to finish off the meal; good dessert to share

Overall, this was a very lovely meal. The restaurant has a nice ambience for dating couples, but they easily accommodated families and large groups. The service we received was top-notch.

It's been many years since our visits here, including several anniversaries with fabulous memories. Ambiance is now elegant as opposed to homey elegance. Nice. My wife, when reserving, indicated it was our anniversary and asked for a table by the fireplace.

We were told six or seven times, 'Happy Anniversary,' no mention of fireplace, (in the past with no mention of anniversary, when they overheard us, they comped us champagne and a desert). I did not and do not expect that, so one 'Happy' would have been fine, but given the number HAPPYs perhaps a small bon mot. I had the tuna carpaccio, which was a very vinegary serviche with fish taste totally obscured. My wife had single tater tot cooked in duck fat with caviar, good ... but. She ordered chicken, but then was told the special, so changed to it. It turned out to be an another small appetizer a cerviche of several fishes (turned out to be one). Offered a replacement for my tuna, I ordered the same and it was excellent (but again small). My wife ordered a single scallop appetizer deciding 3 appetizers was enough. I ordered Swordfish (on the rare side) and a side of Brussels sprouts. A surprisingly a large main course came with mashed potatoes and baby broccoli (wonderful) and side dish of carrots (quite good) instead of Brussels sprouts which the waitress explained that we had been given an old menu. We were not charged for its The Swordfish was properly but overcooked for my taste and somewhat salty. If you are sensitive to salt, mention that as other things were slightly over salted.

Service was okay, complaints replaced, but having ordered a bottle of wine, when our glasses went dry, we had to wait twice to signal for a refill. The North Fork Table white wine blend is nice and at $55, the cheapest, significantly better than two other local wine at higher prices. The most surprising thing was that our unfancy Cappuccino ($9) was probably the best we ever had.

As the swordfish was large, I took a large piece home with the unordered carrots, but they gave me the wrong bag. I now have a chicken drumstick and thigh and more. Someone else has a large piece of Swordfish.

Sadly, we hoped to continue a tradition now that we live close by!

We made a reservation for 7:30pm for valentines day 3 weeks prior. Arrived 10 minutes early just in case (because it can get busy) they had us waiting for over 30 minutes before we could sit down, after we we sat down they had a set “special” menu for the day which was pretty basic, we waited another 30 minutes before calling the waiter over who had forgotten to attend us and attended people who got there way later than us. We ordered drinks while we waited for the food that should’ve been done faster than usual if its a set menu but the drinks were served once again after the waiter remembered about us and after the food had arrived. Nonetheless we tried to enjoy our night but were rushed and even before we could finish our dessert and coffee the check was handed to us which made us feel very uncomfortable and felt as if we were getting kicked out. Just a few things of many that made our special night not so special.
The picture I took is after an hour and some change of waiting for food or drinks. Spent close to $300 for 2 people. Disappointed.
