The food was average at best and definitely overpriced for what you get. Surprising to see prices higher than what you'd find in Manhattan. Not worth it unless they improve either the food or the pricing.

A lovely Mexican dinner at Maizal in Clifton, Staten Island.

Known for their margaritas, I had a spicy jalapeño and my friend had the grapefruit.

For appetizers we shared queso with chorizo and a stuffed plantain with garlic shrimp.

For main courses, more shrimp: tacos, a burrito bowl and their spicy shrimp special. For dessert, churros with vanilla ice cream.

Maizal is an excellent spot for authentic Mexican cuisine. The restaurant is family owned and operated which seems to enhance the care of their service. My family and I frequent this place often; we’ve been here as a couple, a trio, and in groups of 4-12 ppl. The service is always efficient and friendly. The dishes are deliciously reliable and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. There is a back patio for dining when weather permits which is enjoyable in the spring and summer....
