Very small portions with takeout! Doesn't look anything like pictures shown. We had received $100 in gift cards as a gift. After placing an order, we were told we could only use $50 in gift cards in an order. Very disappointed.

This place is 'the go to' for Great Mexican food!!. I moved to NYC from Los Angeles in 2007. Took me 15 years trying Mexican food all over NYC. I am 'in my Mexican Kitchen' at Sofia's. Love this place!!

Today was my first time visiting this establishment. From the moment we walked in we were greeted warmly and seated right away. Our server approached us immediately and was very polite and friendly. We were given chips and salsa that were so fresh and tasty. We ordered our appetizers and drinks and our meals. Everything came out staggered and in a timely fashion. The tortilla soup was to die for. The chicken wings with the dry rub were the best wings I have ever eaten. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla and the rice and beans side dish. The food was so fresh and tasty. The staff were all so polite and attentive. The prices are fantastic. I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again and again. Thanks for the amazing experience.

AMAZING. Most places doesn't deserve 5 stars flat but Sophia's? On Amboy? They do! All the wait staff are amazing and patient. They keep up with your orders and demands and did I say they're patient? We spent over 2 hours sipping on our Wepa Wednesday pitchers and they just smiled and let us enjoy ourselves. I appreciate this place and what they offer. 10/10 recommend ❤️ Also let's not get started on the amazing food. I've had almost everything on their menu. Also 10/10. Pretty solid place with amazing decor, vibes and even more amazing flavors! I've been wanting to try Sofia's for a while so we stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch while in Staten Island. Hubs and I came in with our 4 boys and another family of 5. He and I had the mojitos - blueberry for him and strawberry for me. I gravitate towards strawberry anything but I must admit, his blueberry mojito was so good, I ordered 2 more of those! Two of our boys ordered the blueberry lemonade and they tasted pretty great too. We also asked for a round of waters for everyone and the house tri-color tortilla chips and salsa were enough to hold the kids off until the food came. For our family, we got the crab empanadas to share and got the kids' entrees ordered right away: carne asada tacos and chicken fingers + fries for our youngest 3 to share. My oldest got the beef tacos, hubby got the steak burrito and I got the carne asada off the Platos Fuertes selection. I was surprised at how much crab meat was in our empanadas - decent sized and lumps of meat. My steak was well seasoned, tasted great and cooked to medium, just as I ordered. Hubby is a stickler when it comes to food and pleasantly enjoyed his meal. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed their entrees and our servers were amazing, patient and so accommodating considering how many young children we had with us. Hubby and I already can't wait to make another day out to SI to stop by for brunch next time. The bottomless mimosas are calling my name.
Perfect for Taco Tuesday or any other day of the week. Serendipity! Unexpectedly tasty drinks, dinner and dessert were all delicious!

The only thing is our waitress messed up our drink orders, and I'm not sure if it was the manager who came over to us to ask if we wanted another round of drinks. We told him what happened he didn't even apologize or try to make it right. We ordered esspresso martinis and asked do you guys have baileys to put in. Esspresso martinis is on the menu. And they had bailyes. We later found out the waitress told the bartender we wanted esspresso in a martini glass with just baileys and that's what we got. But made us pay the esspresso Martini price... I thought that was bad customer service and should've compensated or at least apologized.

Best Mexican food I had on Staten Island. The chicken burritos and chimichangas were so full of flavor in every bite. I was a little worried since I saw some prior Yelp photos with very little chicken in the burrito, but ours seemed to be loaded to the brim with great tasting blackened chicken (emphasis on the blackened, because because most Mexican restaurants in the northeast have notoriously flavorless chicken). The staff was really nice as well, accommodating a substitution of black beans in the burrito on a busy Friday night. As for the chimichanga, I'm used to them being much smaller and crispier, but this was an awesome improvement on the classic dish, with the tasty cheese fondue. It's very mild, for those who can't handle spicy, but they were happy to bring a few additional hot sauces to the table to bring that heat back in the mix. Overall a really nice experience with great atmosphere. It was a little loud inside, but I look forward to coming here again in the summer for a chance to eat outside
