3.25 stars --- I have been coming here since it opened for Hibachi. It used to be much more / longer of an experience. Nowadays they rush you in and out as fast as they can. Bring the soup and the salad nearly a the same moment and trying to take the one you aren't working on even it is full. That's Too soon. It's just so forced now. When its time to pay they really rush.. This used to a fun dining experience nows it is just like a ride to get revenue in and out. AsAp.The chefs are fun. Some better than others at both cooking and tricks. They always and I mean ALWAYS overcook the salmon. Dry and over seasoned. This time we had an excellent cook and trickster. The food was best I have here in many visits. The best is fried rice. I could just get this. I do love the veggies too.My niece still loves it so we go for her.Wheelchair accessibility: I saw an entire hibachi table of people in wheel chairs. Some fully motorized. I definitely call that wheelchair accessible. They all left in different custom accessibly vans.

The waitress is a thief! My waitress Betty was very inattentive. My bill came up to $94.34, and I left a $5.66 tip, making my total an even $100. A few days later, the payment that was posted to my account was $115.66. The waitress altered the tip I left on the receipt! Never trust this place! When I complained to the manager, she never even confronted the waitress that I pointed out to her.

Our visit to Kumo in Stony Brook was anticipated with excitement, especially as it was to celebrate a special occasion - my dad's birthday. Unfortunately, our expectations were met with nothing short of disappointment. Our evening began on a low note as we were led to a secluded backroom, a section of the restaurant we had never seen before. Its proximity to the restrooms resulted in a sewer-like smell that permeated the space. The ambiance that we were hoping for was immediately tarnished by this. The lack of cleanliness was evident from the state of the dishes. It was as if they were hastily cleaned, or not cleaned at all, which was not only off-putting but also raised questions about the overall hygiene standards of the establishment. Additionally the grill was leaking grease and dripping on to my girlfriends leg.Our culinary experience was equally unimpressive. The food was lackluster in flavor. One expects more from a place that prides itself on delivering a hibachi experience.Speaking of the hibachi experience, the cook's performance was lackadaisical at best. The customary guest interactions that are typically a highlight of the hibachi dining experience were barely existent. It was as if the soul of the hibachi experience had been sucked out, leaving behind a hollow, mechanical process of food preparation. Our disappointment was further compounded by the bar. The mixed drinks were overwhelmingly strong, overpowering the distinct flavors and rendering them unenjoyable. It seemed as though the balance of ingredients was entirely overlooked. In conclusion, our visit to Kumo was a letdown compared to our previous visits. We used to be regulars to Kumo, but after this experience, we will not be back. The poor hygiene, the bland food, the lack of a true hibachi experience, and the overly potent drinks all contributed to an experience that was far from what we were hoping for. It's with a heavy heart that I rate this experience as a 1-star visit. It's my hope that Kumo takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues for future guests.

Great food and fast and efficient service. The downside? Due to poor acoustics (high ceilings, no acoustic tiles), loud background music and a noisy open kitchen, conversation over dinner was difficult and we were obliged to raise our voices to be heard.

I recently dined at Kumo Japanese in Stony Brook for dinner and had a delightful experience. The fried calamari was perfectly crispy and tender, providing a delicious start to the meal. The egg fried rice was flavorful and well-seasoned, complementing the other dishes beautifully. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Kumo signature roll with spicy crab. The combination of fresh ingredients and the kick of spice made it a memorable and satisfying sushi choice. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was cozy.

Incredible, as usual. Their tuna remains to be some of the most tender, softest, melt in your mouth cuts I've ever had. The Uni was a treat. The only miss was the Kumo roll which was a waste of lobster meat... I would have gone with any other roll tbh. Otherwise, the appetizers were great, especially the fried oysters... The salad and dressing was delicious. Service was fast and friendly, 5*.

Nice place food was good but all three of us had Filet Mignon in our dinner and each one was over cooked. They did replace one which was nice. But its a no return vote for overall rating. The extra star was for the replacement steak.

I was here on Valentine’s Day with my wife, the service was rushed the entire way through, it were very uncomfortable and they were rude. I spend over 225 dollars and the service was horrible. I've had much better service at a Friday's restaurant. They were rushing to get out of there and they started cleaning tables making a bunch of noise taking plates off of our table that weren't even finished yet and wouldn't even give us desert because the kitchen was closed....It's Valentine’s Day, get with it!! I eat out 2-3 times a week and this is by far one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Will never ever step foot in this place again?

Kumo is my favorite Japanese style restaurant. They offer a full sit down dining area and an expansive menu of options. They also have their gold star hibachi area which serves as a great source of entertainment and family-centric atmosphere. They have a full bar, plenty of space to accommodate large parties however it is recommended to make a reservation for parties larger than 10. The restaurant itself is clean and inviting, well lit and has a good atmosphere. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and seem to get every order right the first time. It can be a bit pricey especially if you are ordering drinks. You are paying for great quality fresh food and service as well as a show (hibachi) so it seems worth it to me. I'll be visiting again.Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options available. No meat required.Parking: Large parking lot with many spaces. Handicap parking available as well.

I went with my family to have an enjoyable dinner, I ended up very disappointed. I ordered the hibachi dinner in the dining area and asked them to make sure my vegetables were well done and not just raw. They ended up making it wrong and the thing that upset me the most was that they attempted to cook my vegetables 3 times and still didn’t get it right and just added more sauce to make it look cooked. This was my favorite place and now I’m never going back.

Honestly I've been a few times. Service typically very solid. We booked a table of 9 with 2 kids for hibachi. The chef went around confirmed our orders. He forgot to put my steak and my sons on, didn't make enough. When confronted he had to go get approval to make our meals which he still forgot my sons meal again. I split my meal with my son and called it a day, paid for it and moved on as it was two hours before we ate, a fun time turned into frustration and it wasn't worth getting upset about.

Very good fresh seafood. Excellent fresh food. The best in this area. This place is always busy reservations are a must. Worth waiting for a later reservation in others aren't available.

Really wonderful hibachi experience! The meats were fresh, flavorful, and well seasoned. Would fully recommend for special occasions.

I have been going to Kumo over 3 yrs now. Food is always taste the best but service is not consistent. I have gone with my girlfriend many times to hibachi tables and ordered different apps to try and shared one course cause portions are big enough. However last night when waitress was taking our ordered we came up with a situation where we were told that we need to order two dinners to be able to sit at the tables! Another waiter came then the manager came to our table to repeat what she has told us. Left overs are always good to have but when I prefer to share one dinner I don’t think it was fare to be forced to order a second meal.
