This was my after school special since they were on whitney ave.. the allowance my parents gave me was enough for some mj and some dumplig munchies... now that i'm older, prices haven't changed much although it's risen a bit.. but I love this place so much that I come back every now and then for the frozen bag.. as a kid, this was my first place experiencing someone pulling noodles by hand before it was a thing on TV

When you know, you know...and now I know, thanks to fellow Yelper GrubAdventuresD giving me reminders and nudges to go!! Lao Bei Fang Dumping House is a hidden GEM!! If I lived closer, I'd be there on a regular basis. Many of my other Yelp friends have given rave reviews, and Lao Bei Fang has been on my bookmark list for yearssss, but this is the first time I've actually gone. Now this place is on my "fave places" bookmark list...cause now I know, too! Superficially, from the outside, it doesn't look so special. But once you start to peruse their menu, you start to think, hmmm, this place is the real deal! (See my photo of their menu). The guy making the fresh hand-pulled noodles on the spot, seals the deal! I literally got to see him make my noodles! They were perfection. The guy's forearms were pretty amazing also! hahaha :) On my first visit, this is what I ordered: - Pork & Leek Fried Dumplings (#1) $4.75/8pcs: these were fantastic. Real comfort food. It didn't even need any sauce. - Sauteed Pork Hand-pulled Noodles (#49) $10.75: This was so flavorful and the noodles were perfection. The noodles had the right texture and chew to it. I was eating this order for 3 meals...huge portion! So satisfying and tasty! I'm definitely ordering this again. Next on my radar: Hot & Spicy Soup ($10.75) with either Beef Tendon & Tripe (#6), or with Lamp Chop (#13). Both sound delicious. Yelper GrubAdventuresD warned me not to get spicier than "medium spicy" since I may not be able to tolerate that level of spicy. And let me tell ya, I have a very high tolerance for spicy foods, but I will definitely NOT get spicier than "medium spicy"! You've been warned! Haha I was also advised that eating this soup in-house is much better than doing takeout. Customer service is very friendly and patient. This is not a waiter service restaurant. It's more self order/self serve. There is a sauce area where you can help yourself to dumpling sauce, soy sauce or chili oil...definitely get the chili oil! In a neighborhood full of great eats, this place is a real standout! Prices are so reasonable; Food is so fresh & delicious. What's not to love? I'll definitely be back soon...cause now I know, too!

Picked up an order of pork and chive dumplings. Probably got a bad batch, but they were all super burnt! Willing to give them another try though.

Great neighborhood standby for dumplings and soups with hand-pulled and knife-shaved noodles. Love hearing the smack of the noodles as they pull them behind the counter. The dumplings are a great deal at 8 for $4.75 (includes tax). I got the boiled ones as they generally need to make them fresh - as opposed to the pan-fried, which they often have pre- prepared. I also love their lamb noodle soup. It's a comfort food favorite.

Authentic, super amazingly delicious, and reasonably priced....need I say more? Seriously, so good.

I like the beef ma la tang and go there many times. The location is near the subway.

This place is a staple for the neighborhood and having grown up around here I've eaten here many times. In short the dumpling quality has gone down since they moved to this location but the noodles continue to reign supreme and provide some of the chewiest freshest flavor you'll find around town. You can't go wrong with getting the beef noodle soup or some other variation of noodle soup and I also highly recommend getting those stirfried noodles. Not only do they have the chewy al dente fresh hand pulled quality but these noodles are stacked with flavor with fresh vegetables and herbs that give a good deal of fragrance and textural differences, more than your typical stirfry noodle and have thin slices of meat that are almost jerky like but mostly salted and packed with umami. When I have friends visiting I try to bring them here for stirfry noodles. Unfortunately the dumplings used to be really great from this place and they're still pretty good if you buy them frozen since they make them by hand and you can make them at home. Unfortunately it's very hit or miss with whether or not you can get them fresh in store and the last handful of times I've gone the dumplings were definitely ones that have been sitting out for a while. However they are quite chunky and meaty and if you can get them fresh they are juicy and deep in flavor - the meat must be particularly well sauced

Time and again I find myself just THINKING about the hot and sour spicy soup. I often get the vegetarian version and some pork dumplings. But are extremely satisfying and very filling. No session at Lao Bei Fang is compelte without a healthy dollop of the chili oil as well. By my lights this is the best Chinese food spot in the area. And this area is brimming with amazing restaurants. It's also worth the trip to see their chefs create the noodles and whip up their dishes. It's quite the experience. Despite going often (less often now that I live in Brooklyn) I really haven't deviated from my usual order. I really appreciate that these fine folks pack a ton of flavor in their food. They really pull no punches.

I was in the area and was craving some soup to take home; I'm so glad I found this gem on Yelp! ! I ordered Beef Noodle Soup (~$10) and it was AMAZING. Even though I didn't get to eat it until an hour later due to the commute, it was still really good. They also packaged it very nicely. Not only is the price very reasonable, but I was also really surprised by the huge portions as I was able to eat this for lunch and dinner. Will definitely return whenever I'm in the area again!

I come to the Dumpling House at least a couple of times a month for take out and am always happy with the delicious food. Our go to items are the beef noodle soup, scallion pancakes, pork and cabbage dumplings, and stir fried noodles. It's such a nice change of pace compared to typical Chinese takeout. I appreciate that they ask whether you want your soup and noodles packaged together or separate since keeping them together in a hot container would overcook the noodles. The prices are so reasonable given the portion sizes. We usually get a couple of meals out of an order. There are always people inside eating and picking up orders so the freshness of the food is never in question. Even though there might be a bit of a language barrier, my order has never been wrong. We will be coming back again and again.

Best dumplings I've ever tried-maybe the best in nyc! Also the customer service has improved significantly I think because they hired new staff! Also their noodles are homemade and very authentic!

Hubby ordered some dumplings a year ago. Ended up with food poisoning. Just thought it was a bad batch. Fast forward a year later, I'm 20 weeks pregnant and craved dumplings and figured we give this place another go. We both ended up with food poisoning again! Stay away from the dumplings!

I really regret not trying a noodle soup. A food blog on Instagram posted about their dumplings so I decided to give them a try because it would be nice to find good food closer to home instead if traveling to my favorites in the city. I ordered the pork and cabbage dumplings boiled, the pork and chive dumplings fried, a whole scallion pancake, a pork bun and tea eggs. All of this came up to $19 and its soo much food so the value for your money is great. What I don't like is how thick and dense the dough of the pork bun and the scallion pancake were. The pork bun was almost hard to chew how thick it was, it wasn't a soft fluffy light bun at all which was a very disappointing. The boiled pork and cabbage dumplings were yummy but the fried pork and chive dumplings were nothing memorable. The star of the show were the tea eggs. They were amazing, properly salted and I was still able to taste the flavor of whatever it was boiled in. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but if I do end up in the area again, I'll try soup and get the eggs.

I like they new renovation, much cleaner & open spaces compare to the pass. Ordered the hot & spicy noodles soup and pan fried dumplings. Food still good.

This spot is a classic that I've been going to for years! They make hand pulled noodles right in the shop so each order has a fresh batch of noodles. The prices are very affordable with prices just under $10 and the portions are definitely filling. The texture of the noodles is chewy and the broth tastes very hearty. However, I don't think that the noodles catch the flavors of the broth very well. There's a huge selection of different noodles - soup and sauteed, along with dumplings and sides. A local gem for a quick and affordable meal.
